Malcolm Hughes

I am a principled conservative. I will labor in the best interest of all Fayette County citizens. I believe in traditional conventional wisdom of moral integrity, less government, fiscal constraints, less taxation, a fundamental entrepreneurial way of thinking, working hard, and being competitive in the marketplace, responsibility, integrity, and accountability.

My Christian faith, without apology, will be the foundation of my decisions and service to all taxpayers of Fayette County. My goal is to facilitate consensus building within the commission and other governmental agencies for the good of the entire County. I will work to improve communications among Fayette County citizens to enhance the quality of government services resulting in a better community.

Planning and managing growth is a concern for everyone I talk with throughout the campaign. Progress will not come easily. We need to insure that infrastructure improvements are adequately planned for:

Job creation

Schools

Roads

Recreation

Utility systems

Health care services

I support the current land use plan. It should be adhered to until an alternative better solution is developed in accordance with the increasing growth. If we are consistent with the application of the current plan, the taxpayers will have a starting point to understand the basis for decisions on zoning issues. If the taxpayers have a grasp of the land use plan for the entire county, current decisions will be more readily accepted. Improved communication is vital to this objective.

Transportation planning is another concern. “The Transportation Plan update estimates the need for $266 million” over the next 20 years. I do think the Board of Commissioners has to communicate to taxpayers the rationale for the priorities of the transportation plan. Collectively, the commissioners and citizens should work with the Georgia Department of Transportation to insure an equitable resolution of traffic congestion for north, central and south Fayette.

Public safety is always a priority. The sheriff and fire chief have done a fantastic job since I have lived in Fayette. We can keep Fayette County safe by strongly supporting our local law enforcement agencies. Simultaneously, we must hold all county officials accountable for efficient and effective utilization of tax dollars. Public safety Officials must be fair and unbiased in their treatment of all citizens.

I am the best qualified candidate for Post 1 and my conservative values are in alignment with a progressive Fayette County.

Vote Malcolm Hughes, CPA
Fayette County Commissioner

So people of different faiths or beliefs won't be represented by you? Our elected officials should be aware that diversity in Fayette County is more than just people of diffferent ethnicities. It also includes those of harder-to-see faiths and creeds.

People like you drive me crazy. It is ok for people of your caliber to blast everybody about their faith based values, but yet nobody better say anything about yours or heaven forbid, attack your beliefs (an atheist still believes, even though they believe that there is no God).

He did not say only Christians would be represented. Only that as a Christian, he holds certain standards. Whether or not a someone is a person of faith, the tenents associated with Christianity hold true. Human nature alone is insufficient to create a foundation for the capacity to lead and make the decisions to adequately serve in any capacity.

Everyone needs a foundation and it can come in many forms; Christianity being one of them. If his background offends you, he will not be your choice. But you can oppose a candidate based on his background for his decision making. Personally, I agree with this concept. If a pronounced muslim was running, I would avoid that candidate because I do not agree with the foundations they stand on.

We all are who we are. We cannot change our race, but we can develop character through many different avenues. I applaud Mr. Hughes for relating his character basis.

Yes, that's about what I expected. Most candidates I'm aware of try to be inclusive and actually work to get votes rather than drive them away. Regardless, your message is understood, as is his. Thanks. I'll take my non-Christian beliefs and find a candidate who can keep his religious thoughts to himself and not blur the line between personal, private beliefs and public (as in "inclusive of everyone") service.

Christian people are inclusive of people with other religions. If you will look at history, this Country was founded on religion - Christian beliefs. That doesn't mean you have to be a Christian, but one shouldn't be judged because they are proud of their religious convictions. You are free to vote any way you choose, but just remember, it was your Christian forefathers that gave you that right! I choose to vote for someone else, but it is not based on their religion!

No one keeps their beliefs to themselves. Including you.

The idea that someone can have no religious foundation or thougts is rediculous.

Religion means having a set of beliefs with some THING one holds superior to all else.

That definition makes it impossible to not have a religion.

Humanists, Atheists and such in government do not keep their thinking out of their votes.

Christians, in general, have far greater tolerance for allowing such to hold to their beliefs than those of such beliefs have for allowing Christians to hold to theirs.

So, whether you want to accept it or not you are looking for someone who thinks and would vote like you.
