The following candidates for the March 21 Special Election did not submit essays for this free forum presented by The Citizen as a service to the voters of Fayette County.

Emory Wilkerson, Republican.

Wendy Felton, Democrat

Charles D. Rousseau, Democrat

Candidates not responding this week may still participate in this free forum by submitting essays of 400 words or less via e-mail to editor@TheCitizen.com by the deadline of 5 p.m. this Thursday. Essay content is up to the candidate. Except for correcting grammar and spelling errors, we will publish up to 400 words from each candidate each week for the next two weeks without further editing. The essays must arrive before deadline as the body text of the e-mail messages, not as attachments. — The editor.

I know for a fact that two of those mentioned above WERE NOT contacted by The Citizen. They only found out about the essays when they saw the above article. Isn't it a little strange that three of five did not respond? Don't critize someone for something the Citizen did not do.

I know for a fact that the paper printed a solicitation requesting this information, as it always does, well in advance. If the candidates cannot take the time to read the paper (i.e. stay in touch with the issues) and realize that this paper has, for quite some time, made printed, public requests for candidates to submit their responses, then perhaps public office is not what they should be seeking.

The Citizen publishes these responses for free; it's campaigning/advertising for free. Do you honestly think they should also contact the candidates individually? Maybe Cal can offer to run everyone's campaign, go door to door and drive people to the polls, too.

Squirrel,

Since this newspaper ran such an open forum on the Peachtree City election, what is it about these candidates to assume any less for a County Commission seat?

If I was a "serious" candidate I wouldn't be waiting for the newspaper to contact me, I'd be contacting the newspaper to see if they planned on putting this forum on.

I agree it brings into question their committment to the issues and therefore their ability to lead.

If I was any of them, I'd be firing my campaign manager right now. And if they are representing themselves, then they get a failing grade for their first test.

If you're running for office and you fail to A) respond to the local newspaper's request to print your info and platform for FREE; and B) create and publicize a campaign website, you do yourself, your supporters and your potential constituents a disservice.

I find it mind-boggling that you have the chance to get your positions in print and disseminated not only via the physical version of The Citizen but this great and interactive online forum and so many fail to take advantage.

And in 2006, there is simply no excuse for failing to have and promote a campaign website.

I'm researching the 2006 Fayette County elections and cannot find anything other than two responses in this forum which, charming as they are, provide nothing other than biographical information which is wholly secondary to where you stand on the issues. And if any of you have a website, I have failed to find it.

Hope this election is more important to you than it so far appears...

Again, as others have said, if you can't get a website up or for some reason can't respond to the newspaper of record in our county - you are not qualified to serve as a commissioner. I be voting for the other guys.

H. Hamster why don't you find out the true facts before you decide who to vote for based on one article in The Citizen. Three did not respond - WHY? Because they were not asked.

Sorry I didn't know they were not asked. I assumed the paper contacted every candidate in an effort to be fair, but since you tell me 2 were asked and 3 were not - well you must know something. Thanks.

Wow! Ok, I'm asking every candidate now. Respond to the questions - or if you don't understand them, just write a statement about why you are the best candidate.

That ok yada yada?

Then after those responses (if any) I will decide to vote for the one with the best answers. I'll keep you informed.
