Accumulations of snowfall are expected across north and parts of central Georgia late Sunday through midday Monday, according to a winter weather message from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City at 4:43 p.m. Sunday.

A cold front will approach northwest Georgia Sunday night, spreading light to moderate snow across north and portions of central Georgia on Monday, the NWS said.

In this area, the snow will fall in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Clayton, Fulton and other area counties, including the cities of Gainesville, Marietta, Atlanta, Lawrenceville, Athens, Carrollton, Douglasville, East Point, Decatur, Conyers, Covington, Newnan, Peachtree City, Griffin and Columbus.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST Monday for portions of north and central Georgia.

Areas of light rain, snow and sleet are expected to move into northwest Georgia late this evening and quickly change over to all snow and spread to the south and east.

Temperatures will drop to the low to mid 30s by Monday morning. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected along and south of a Carrollton through Marietta and Cumming to Gainesville line through midday Monday.

A winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

The forecast for Fayette and Coweta counties:

Tonight: Chance of rain or snow or sleet in the evening, then snow or sleet after midnight. Snow and sleet accumulation up to 2 inches. Lows in the lower 30s. Southwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.

Presidents Day: Snow likely in the morning, then a slight chance of snow in the afternoon. Snow accumulation around 1 inch. Total snow accumulation 1 to 3 inches. Highs in the mid 30s. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 70 percent.

Monday night: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 20s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday: Partly sunny. Highs around 40. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
