$25,000 reward in postal robbery

The United States Postal Service is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of two men who robbed a postal service contract truck driver at the Fayetteville Post Office Friday night.

U.S. Postal Inspectors are asking anyone who was at the post office between 6:30 and 7:30 to contact them at 1-877-876-2455. Witnesses may have unwittingly noticed something that could help with the case, said spokesperson Yulanda Burns.

“If they saw any suspicious activity, we really want them to call us,” Burns said.

The truck driver who was accosted by the two men was OK although it is not known if the employee was hurt in any way during the incident, which occurred after 7 p.m.

Postal inspectors are trying to determine if the robbery is connected with two other incidents: one at the Lovejoy post office in July and the other at the McDonough post office in November, Burns said. The McDonough incident was not a robbery but mail was stolen from the back dock area while the truck driver was not present, Burns said.

Fayetteville police and Fayette County sheriff’s deputies searched the area of the post office immediately after 911 was called, and K-9 units were also deployed to try and track the suspects.

The two men got away with three postal bags, police said. Initial radio reports indicated that the bags were deposit bags and that the driver struck one of the robbers in the abdomen with a metal pipe.

The incident occurred in the secured fenced area behind the post office, officials said.

Postal inspectors are not releasing many details of the crime. If the bags contained mail, persons whose mail was stolen will be contacted by the post office, Burns said.

Scuse me! You say that incident was "Not" a Robbery---but "mail was stolen from the back dock area"----Damn, I just don't understand.

You know, if all of us bloggers got together and tracked these guys down, the reward might just about cover the cost of that Starbuck's coffee at the next get-together.

Heard there was a similar robbery in Lovejoy---maybe we can double up! Hey, I bet it's those end of month welfare checks that they know will be in the mailbags!

you don't know if he's here or not! I did notice though, that the report did not mention skin color of the robbers---wonder if DM has been onto the Citizen reporters! Oh, did you get some BBQ when you were in Dallas? I've got the name of a kickass BBQ place in E. Atlanta (Doublewide, with Smokehouse in back) but they only do ribs and chicken. I called them and asked "Do you smoke any beef brisket?" The guy said "not yet"--I'm gonna plan a visit to check out their ribs and will ask them to think about it.

You betcha I had brisket - two times in two days in DFW!!!! Boy was it gooooooood!! There's a place in Hapeville that does a pretty good job of it - Hambones BBQ. I'm going to try "This is it BBQ" soon. Perhaps you and I can do lunch there.

You mean the "This Is It" near the Pavillion? Had takeout from there--think they only do pulled/chopped pork unless you know different. Regardless, you know I'm retired and can handle whatever your schedule allows. Just let me know.

might be nice but I only know of one former Law Enforcement Officer who might have any idea at all of how to do that! And yes, I may have been in Intelligence work for a long time, it was against "those other guys", not locals. But maybe we'd best let the current professionals handle the case. Or we could get Maple to work it--at least w know we'd get them alive and unthreatened by weapons!
