Three people were injured early this afternoon when a sheriff's patrol vehicle collided with another car just south of Fayetteville as it was responding to a burglar alarm call, according to officials with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening but all three people in the crash were taken for treatment at area hospitals, sheriff’s officials said.

The crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. as Capt. Deborah Hannah, the wife of Sheriff Wayne Hannah, was traveling east on South Jeff Davis Drive with the emergency lights and sirens activated on her marked patrol vehicle, a 2009 Ford Explorer, officials said.

As Hannah approached Helen Sams Parkway, a 1994 Pontiac Sunfire turned left onto South Jeff Davis drive and into the path of the patrol vehicle immediately before the collision, officials said. Capt. Hannah was unable to avoid the Sunfire, officials said.

The Sunfire driver was identified as Danielle Mask, 29, of Fayetteville, who also had her 4-year-old daughter in a booster seat, officials said.

Mask was taken to Atlanta Medical Center and her daughter was taken to Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center; Hannah was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital.

Sheriff’s Maj. Bryan Woodie said that although Capt. Hannah is in charge of youth services for the department, it is not uncommon for her to respond to active service calls.

The accident will be investigated by the Georgia State Patrol per the sheriff’s office policy because it involved a sheriff’s vehicle, officials said.

Captain Hannah was responding to this particular alarm call and supposively had blue lights on because she was going to her Own home. As a Fayette citiZen don't you wish you had the luxuary of a speedy response to your home alarm activation?...... I think not. When did the Sheriffs department starting go to alarms with lights and sirens? I would be interested to know what she was told in the dispatch. And how she could justify the need for blue lights, if they were even on. I am sure her marked unit convienently does not have a camera system in it too.

I'm hearing rumors that no one has come forward who really heard a siren (which differs from the news reports), was anyone close by when it happened?

Yes, it *is* uncommon for Capt Hannah to respond to active service calls! Anyone who doubts that can do an open records request and see just how many "active calls" she has responded to.

Also, why was she running lights and sirens to an alarm call? That is not the department policy (for any law enforcement department in Fayette County). It is a very rare thing that there is an alarm call that gives any indication of a "need for speed."

Mr Munford, please investigate this further, and don't just take Maj Woodie's word for it!

The Sheriff's Office ended the practice of responding to alarm calls with lights and siren two years ago or more. Woodie's making brownie points by shining a bright light on a dark shadow over the incident. I hope the child who was life flighted is okay.

WOODIE? I thought he was the night watchman at the courthouse?
Guess that's his night job.
