Thank God for those Alaskians

"WASHINGTON — Sen. Lisa Murkowski took her battle with the Environmental Protection Agency to the floor of the Senate today, saying she was left with no choice but to fight a federal agency she believes is “contemplating regulations that will destroy jobs while millions of Americans are doing everything they can just to find one.”

The Alaska Republican announced she would seek to keep the EPA from drawing up rules on greenhouse gas emissions from large emitters, such as power plants, refineries and manufacturers. Murkowski did it by filing a “disapproval resolution,” a rarely used procedural move that prohibits rules written by executive branch agencies from taking effect."

My goodness!
By, Dewie Whetsell, Alaskan Fisherman.

As posted in comments on Greta's article referencing the MOVEON ad about
Sarah Palin:

The last 45 of my 66 years (Dewie Whetsell, not Palin) I've spent in a
commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never
understood national politics well until this last year.

Here's the breaking point:

Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona,
style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never
mention the things that I'm about to mention here.

1. Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as
soon as Palin took the Governor's office away from a fellow Republican and
tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican's "Corrupt Bastards
Club" (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State
housing and wearing orange jump suits The Democrats reacted by skipping
around the yard, throwing confetti and singing, "la la la la" (well, you
know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done
anything similar.

2. Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect
the huge, giant oil companies here. So she constructed and enacted a new
system of splitting the oil profits called "ACES." Exxon (the biggest
corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them, "don't let the door
hit you in the stern on your way out." They stayed, and Alaska residents
went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course, the other
huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the
name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.

3. The other thing she did when she walked into the governor's office is she
got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as
"pork." She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the
"when-hell-freezes-over" stack. She let locals know that if we need
something built, we'll pay for it ourselves.

Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the
previous governor's jet because it was extravagant.

Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor's
cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the
State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and
dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning - I imagine -
that she's packing heat herself). I'm still waiting to hear the names of
those other governors.

4. Now, even with her much-ridiculed "gosh and golly" mannerism, she also
managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas
pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the
history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If
that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed
while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies
with her other hand.

5. For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place
called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't
start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No
governor for 30 years could make them get started. Then, she told them she
was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened
court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the
court house. Alaska won again.

6. President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for
electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan
for Alaska to be at 50% renewables by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can
give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona
Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that's just a
cover-up. I'm still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other
governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won't
be holding my breath.

By the way, she was content to return to AK after the national election and
go to work, but the haters wouldn't let her. Now these adolescent screechers
are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when
you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin
around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.

You have just read the truth about Sarah Palin that sends the media, along
with the democrat party, into a wild uncontrolled frenzy to discredit her. I
guess they are only interested in skirt chasers, dishonesty, immoral people,
liars, womanizers, murderers, and bitter ex-presidents' wives.

So "You go, Girl." I only wish the men in Washington had your guts,
determination, honesty, and morals. I rest my case. Only FOOLS listen to the
biased media.

As an author and musician Dewie has sure gotten himself lot of free publicity. I have lived in Alaska and still have many friends there. Dewie's sentiments are not a accurate account for most of them.Read the following statement.
There's a reason why "Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here." It's because most of them didn't have much to do with her, and most of them never went anywhere.

No, she most certainly didn't "tear into the (Corrupt Bastard's Club) and send them packing."

The feds did that, before she got into office. She took advantage of the blood in the water to help get her elected. But she had nothing to do with the clean sweep in Juneau; that was the result of the federal investigation that was working its way up to the (shamefully botched) trial of Senator Stevens.

Oil tax reform was championed by Les Gara, a member of the Alaska House of Representatives. When the CBC were swept out, a bipartisan majority was formed in the State Senate, and the House majority was diminished and driven far enough to the center that the issue got traction.

True, Palin didn't stand in the way, because she was still trying to position herself as a moderate. She only had her eye on state politics at that point, and Alaskans, most of whom don't declare a party, tend to be more Libertarian than Republican. Mainly, she was trying not to get lumped in with the local Republican establishment, because they were going to jail right and left.

And again, the myth about her turning down federal money. That 'if we want something built, we pay for it ourselves.' If that was written by an Alaskan, s/he was putting you on. We're allergic to paying for projects ourselves. Palin got raked over the coals by ALL sides for trying to turn down some of the stimulus money, and that was when she had the cover of her base, because she was 'standing up to Obama.' If she had actually been turning down federal money back when Senator Stevens was still the one bringing it here, you would never have heard of her, because her administration wouldn't have lasted a month.

As for Point Thomson, really all that's happened so far is posturing and griping. Again, the basic problem, that the oil companies bought these leases with the promise to develop them and then just sat on them like a piggy bank, is one the House and Senate Dems have been trying to draw attention to for years.

Likewise, the gas pipeline. We've been hearing about it for decades, and a lot of work had been done already towards getting one done. There was some substantial progress made towards one during her term, which was primarily because gas prices spiked. Now they're down again. Note that a gas pipeline is not currently being built.

And yes, we have a lot of renewable energy generation capacity online, but most of it is in Southeast, where several major hydropower projects were built in anticipation of heavy industrial mining operations that never materialized. So we have vast excess renewable capacity going spare down where most of the people aren't. Here where most of the state's population lives, we're powered mainly by natural gas. Palin did introduce a fairly forward-thinking plan, but she could afford to do that at the time - Alaska was swimming in extra cash because of the spike in the price of oil, which provides 90% of the state's revenue. Again, when the price went down, the ambition evaporated.

So yeah. I suppose I'm willing to believe the author of this piece is Alaskan - s/he's certainly dumb enough to be one of us. I say that with love. But it's true.

Elfie.. Nothing you said here has been fact checked.. 99% of everything that "Dewie" has said was already out there during the campaign.

Nothing less than 50 Private Investigators where hired to try to prove what she was saying was wrong.. Guess what like the Florida re-counts they were wrong again.

You may not like her.. Some guys are scared of a strong independant woman that can actually think for themselves..

Some are like Arlen Spector and feels she needs to keep herself in the kitchen fetching beers when called.

But then again Elfie many things that those on the left SWEAR to be the truth usually ends up proving out to be false in the end..

"‘Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.’ He repeatedly promised ‘you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime.’”Obama

"Even the liberal Associated Press is now chiding President Obama for falsely claiming that his proposed tax on uninsured people is not a tax. It is a tax increase, the AP says, and it would be enforced by the IRS: “Memo to President Barack Obama: It’s a tax. "

Even after the throat cutting the media and the left has done on her.. Her favorables are still as good as the darling of the media Obama.

Her favorables far exceed the Congress. So like you said.. Because Sarahs supporters said it..doesn't make it true.. It doesn't make it untrue either..

Steve Lindsey, it is very convenient to ignore the true nature of Sarah Palin's "Throat-cutting."

Her very own campaign staff has been vocal and quite difficult to impeach. They picked her. If they are incompetent that makes her the choice of an incompetent staff. If they are credible that makes her a dishonest person.

Even Fox News, her new employer, had to admit her problem with facts.

And even Glenn Beck had to call "Bull crap"

Conservatives4Palin speak on Palin's campaign and "communication" problems

And "The twelve lies of Sarah Palin" were well sourced and not from "The Left"

Added to this, she doesn't fact check very well.

But I think Peggy Noonan is one of the throat cutters you should not ignore. To quote Peggy,

"But we have seen Mrs. Palin on the national stage for seven weeks now, and there is little sign that she has the tools, the equipment, the knowledge or the philosophical grounding one hopes for, and expects, in a holder of high office. She is a person of great ambition, but the question remains: What is the purpose of the ambition?"

Sarah Palin won't die by a liberal sword....WE LOVE HER!

. . . even though I am a conservative, or maybe BECAUSE I am a conservative, I think choosing Sarah Palin as our presidential candidate would be both a tactical and a strategic mistake. It is true the left-leaning media pukes have treated her with malice. And it is true that, before his election, Obama had far less experience than Palin. But here's the main point. Obama was elected despite many warning red flags that he was a radical leftist - the public got excited about him because he took on rock star status. I can't prove this but I believe part of that rock star status was "white guilt," an eagerness by whites to counter racism of the past by electing a black man as president. America elected Obama the rock star. Now on the right we have the excitement of Sarah Palin and she has taken on a similar rock star status for those who lean right. I like her, I like her ability to make points in a persuasive way to a crowd (sound like Obama?) and her sudden wave of popularity pumped enough life into McCain's campaign to limp across the finish line in 2nd place. But we on the right shouldn't make the Obama mistake, we shouldn't elect a rock star. I don't think there's enough tough substance and deep experience when you scratch past the surface on Sarah Palin to even compare to other candidates, Romney as one good example. So I hate to admit Kevin my sparring partner is right, but he is. This time.

Did you notice that in this string of blogs about Sarah Palin, you offered two sentences on Sarah and a couple of paragraphs on the President? Laughing out loud. Republicans are very disciplined. If you DARE offer the rare criticism of an ally, it had best be well disguised as a throttling of the most popular and despised liberal figure of prominence. Not in my wildest dreams have democrats been so focused or disciplined, in a partisan sense. If they were, we would have had Health care reform by reconciliation much as 43 passed the tax cuts. He absolutely made the most of the office. No one can say he didn't pick the ball up and run with it. Maybe after a year he'll take Barack under his wing and show him how to herd the cattle.

Cheers to you!

Palin is terrible. The fact that she is considered anything in the Repub party shows how far off the Repubs are from ever gaining some kind of majority status again instead of just being something different than the current occupants in power.

Romney has a track record, warts and all. No one can say that he hasn't been a highly successful businessman and someone who knows how to run things and run them well. He also isn't stupid and doesn't have any skeletons buried anywhere, two things which dramatically sets him apart from quite a few Repubs. Palin is a joke propped up by the media to make Repubs look like morons and also simply QUIT on Alaska when the opportunity came to cash-in. Her and fellow IQ-of-a-Dorito Mike Huckabee need to just go ahead and start their 3rd party of social conservatives who could care less about fiscal irresponsibility, war-mongering, limited government or civil liberties. The only thing that matters is that you love God! None of that "other stuff" is important!

and opinions are like well you know..

If Sarah was so universally disliked and mocked then why did Scott Brown's poll numbers rise so fast after an endorsement from her and the Teaparty?

You see Nuk you are like the other lemmings out there.. You're afraid to look bad because the media/Libs might mock you.

But when you allow the media and Libs to make your choice then did you really have one?

I for one would rather have a non-polished outside the establishment non-elitist mainstream American. Then have someone like a McCain, Romney or an Obama. We have had enough of those lately.

As for Romney "isn't stupid" wait until he announces and then we will see how brilliant he is in the media's eyes.

Remember McCain was the Media darling as well.. Until he ran against Obama.

You cannot allow the Media/Libs to frame your opinions. When you do you really don’t have one.

I've been a libertarian for a couple of decades and have been impatiently waiting for the rest of ya'll to get enlightened Smiling to the fact that the Repubs aren't any more the answer than the Dems unless those are liberty-oriented, strong fiscal conservative, Repubs. Very few of them types.

Seen plenty of Palin interviews and I don't see what the infatuation is with her whatsoever. There are plenty of "regular people" out there, some of which have strong principles and ideology as well as the drive to see something through to the conclusion. Can u imagine if Romney had decided that all the headaches from organizing and running the Olympics was too much and he quit halfway through?

Palin to me is no different than most Repubs in that she says a lot and does something entirely different. she'd fit right in with the "we're for limited government until we're in power" or "we need to control spending and deficits until we're elected and then spend baby spend." I won't even get started on the social conservatism that caters to a base that isn't large enough any more to win big elections and alienates the younger voter who is running away from the Repubs.

Don't you think if Mankind, which by the way was a creation of God, was destroying what he (God) built that he (God) could stop it?

Just asking..

God gave man free will to make choices. Man then kicks God out of schools, government, etc. God allows this to happen because if he didn't man would not truly have free will. But man must also learn that when he screws up God will not step in to save him from himself because that would not truly be free will either. BTW, I'm not supporting global warming as real or not just attempting to answer the biblical question that you proposed.

If you're going to get biblical, why doesn't God stop the spread of Aids, children from starving, suffering or dying, Cancer or Paris Hilton from showing up on my TV every night?

Im by no means a tree huger, nor do my christian beliefs go anywhere along with any organized religion, but I do believe that something, be it God, the earth or cosmic strangers bent on taking over our planet, is trying to fix something. Cancer, Aids, plagues, earthquakes, tidal waves, hurricanes, floods all killing 100,000's at once...

All of these things happen throughout history, but how often in the past 1000 years have these happened so close together? Ill concede that part of it doesn't have a snails snot to do with global warming, and more to do with there being more people living closer together than ever before and more media coverage of global disasters in places that no one cared about before. But one has to wonder why is it all seemingly at happening at once? Why in the past 10 years have nearly 1,000,000 people died of natural disasters alone? Coincidence? maybe. Mother earth regulating itself from over heating? maybe a possibility too. Might not be something that we should dismiss as tree huger poppycock just yet.
