Obama's obsession with trucks

Obama didn’t know anything about Scott Brown except that he drove a pick-up truck? This is what qualifies as “leadership” in the U.S? – A ‘president’ that mention’s the opponents pick-up truck, like 5 different times in his speech?

It will be nice when we have a competent, mature, person as POTUS again. Unfortunately, that won’t happen at least until 2012. The vote in Massachusetts was a referendum on the entire Obama administration.
Let’s hope this turns him into a lame duck for the next 3 years.

Didn't Brown own a GM truck? Now, that's ironic since Obama is now running GM.

How can our socialist in chief turn into something he already is??

What will he be now a super lame duck?

What has he accomplished other than the highest debt our country has ever had via bailout plans for companies that have made FAILURE and INCOMPETENCE their usual business practice ?

I would like to know if Obama has ever been in a truck. I doubt it. He needs to know that a lot of pickup truck drivers took advantage of his " cash for clunkers" and are also in debt up to their eyeballs. His problem is that Bush and Reagan rode in pickups.

any political party should have a filibuster-proof majority in Congress. It would appear that the folks of MA feel the same way.

Forget the truck. (Laughter.) Everybody can buy a truck.

Brown ran a good campaign, listened to the people, and won. Great wake-up call. He's claiming to be Independent - with great support from the Republican Party. Let's see what the next few weeks have to offer. (The mayor of Boston did not support the incumbent - and the Demos(majority party in Mass.) did not vote for her.) Massachusetts has a healthcare program that is very 'universal'. . . so let's see if the 'brain power' in Washington can call this correctly.

"Forget the truck. (Laughter.) Everybody can buy a truck."

A flippant, condescending comment intended to belittle Brown and his chances in front of Obama's party faithful. In reality, another rookie mistake by Obama because he left himself wide open for this retort:

"Mr. President, unfortunately in this economy, not everybody can buy a truck,” Brown said in a statement. “My goal is to change that by cutting spending, lowering taxes and letting people keep more of their own money.”

A clear message to the voters he was courting about Big Government. Guess it worked....

"Brown ran a good campaign, listened to the people, and won."

He did run a great campaign. But the reality is a few weeks ago he was 20-30 points behind in the polls. Contrast the events tied to this health care reform travesty with the steady gain in his poll numbers and you will find what the message was last night. I truly hope your party leaders refuse to tie the two together.

"The mayor of Boston did not support the incumbent - and the Demos(majority party in Mass.) did not vote for her."

There was actually not an incumbent running. Paul Kirk was the interim Senator and was never to seek the open seat in January. Martha Coakley was the Attorney General in Mass.

You are technically correct about Dems being the majority of those voters who have declared. But, the way they call it up there Independents are the majority party:

36.95% of voters were registered Democrats (1,559,464)

11.62% were registered as Republicans(490,259)

50.75% were "unenrolled" or independents (2,141,878)

I listened all day about how this was "just a local issue" election. Shocked I am not..

Coakley ran on supporting Obamacare.. and LOST
Brown ran on stopping Obamacare... and WON.

Doesn't sound very local to me.

The astounding thing in all of this is a poll just before the election from Gallup.. When asked about the Teaparty.. How do you view them? (Massachusetts)

41% of voters had a favorable view of the Teaparty

24% of voters had an unfavorable view of the Teaparty

This is a State made up of Democrats, but with an overwhelming majority of Independents.. the Home of the Teaparty Movement.

The same split is seen in National polls as well. Although we don't advocate for a 3rd party it is clear that Republican RINOS had better find their fiscal cojones before we serve up a candidate that does.

BOTH parties had better listen carefully. (Also, we the people need to VOTE so that these lobbyists do not have so much power!!) Red states, blue states take a backseat to green money. Take a look at the health care program in Massachusetts. Are the citizens there happy with their program? That program appears pretty 'universal'.

When we have politicians that will stand on the house floor and proudly proclaim that they will vote against the best intrest of their District because they know whats good for them..

That kind of arrogance from "OUR" politicians must END.

They need to LISTEN to us..

They need to READ the dang BILLS.. before they sign them..

We need TRANSPARENTCY.. we should be able to view the Bills at least 72 hours before they vote.

As far as the Healthcare in Massachusetts..

"Twenty-six percent (26%) of Massachusetts voters say their state’s health care reform effort has been a success. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds that 37% say the reform effort has been a failure, while another 37% are not sure. "

"Only 10% of Bay State voters say the quality of health care has gotten better as a result of the reform plan while 29% say it has gotten worse. Most (53%) say the quality of care has not changed.

As for cost, 21% say the reform has made health care more affordable in Massachusetts. Twenty-seven percent (27%) say health care is now less affordable while 44% see no change."

So no Universal Healthcare ran by the Government DOES NOT WORK.. it can't. Politicians can't help but get in the way.. THEY KNOW BEST remember..

"Now, I've heard about some of the ads that Martha's opponent is running. He's driving his truck around the commonwealth -- (laughter) -- and he says that he gets you, that he fights for you, that he'll be an independent voice."

"So, look, forget the ads. Everybody can run slick ads. Forget the truck. (Laughter.) Everybody can buy a truck." (anyone can give a speech off of a teleprompter and talk about "hope" and "change" ad nauseum too.)

"And so we asked Martha's opponent what's he going to do. And he decided to park his truck on Wall Street." (What does that mean? - Is this the POTUS speaking or the president of the Freshman class at anywhere USA highschool. So immature.)

"It gives you a sense of who the respective candidates are going to be fighting for, despite the rhetoric, despite the television ads, despite the truck."

So I'd think long and hard about getting in that truck with Martha's opponent. (Laughter.) It might not take you where you want to go. (Like maybe off the Chappaquiddick bridge?)

"Everybody and buy a truck" ??- Not if you can't afford it because you don't have a JOB, mr. Obama!
It's almost as if Obama is denigrating trucks and the people that drive them. Some of the hardest working people I know drive trucks.
The F-150 was the best selling vehicle in America in 2009! - You would think that Obumbles would have researched that fact before he dissed people that drive them. Think of all of the people that he alienated with that little speech. Where does he get his material – from Joe Biden?

Heck, I own a truck and use it for work.

This is a prime example of how out of touch Liberal elites are.

It will be good when the grown ups are back in office in 2012. Obama is such a small, little man he feels it necessary to denigrate others in order to make himself feel bigger.

"SEVERIN: And it was just an amazing thing that I was there standing next to him literally when Coakley called to concede and then he announced to the room that that was, put away cellphones. Said, that was Martha, we won, she's conceded. And a moment later the president called and he had the cheek to say to Barack Obama, yeah, do you mind if I bring my truck. And, of course, this is the truck that the president flew to Boston to mock, the truck that this candidate has been roaming the state in. And so it was like a little bit of a twist to the president. I thought it was very, very cheeky.

GLENN: I have to ask you, the idea that the president I mean, it goes back to arugula. The president says, "Don't pay any attention to his truck." Downplaying the truck and taking, I think, himself out of the common mankind of area, goes back to arugula. Barack Obama doesn't even begin to understand the average man.

SEVERIN: I couldn't agree more. Can you imagine? He singled out, there are so many felonies here. This is the president of all of us. This president flew into Boston and got on stage and mocked and ridiculed by name a candidate who's a state senator in Massachusetts, made fun of the fact that he drives a pickup truck. By the way, and PS: Scott Brown is lieutenant commander in the National Guard. He is 30 years in the uniform of this country, and this was his commander in chief mocking him in front of his family and the citizens of his state by name. I just thought the debasing of the office, the lowering, the portioning of the office of president of the United States that was represented by this, plus the disconnect that he thought that making fun of someone driving a small pickup truck would resonate with people and win votes. Glenn, I don't, I don't get what people are telling him. "

And neither do I..

No Steve, he is not a Lieutanant Commander (Navy), he's a Lieutanant Colonel in the Adjutant General Corps of the Army National Guard. Regardless, it was obvious that the POTUS/CINC knew little of his personal background and contributions to his State and Nation. What a shame. Some rookies will be rookies forever.

This liberal 'elitist' has owned a 'truck' for years. (We purchased a green chevy truck in 1964.) THEY LAST! - but had to leave it in California!

It will be good when the grown ups are back in office in 2012.

The Bush/Cheney show will not be re-elected nor will their programs for failure (the demise) of the American economy be reinstituted. Let’s hope we Americans stop the divisiveness that now exists and find and support leaders who can lead - not warmed over politicians. . .or blind followers of talk show hosts. We're in trouble - and blaming Obama or any other individual is ridiculous at this point. Both parties need to see that the American people are TRULY tired of government as usual - we need to see REAL change. Along with this change comes a Real change in how we live as Americans. Some sacrifices will have to be made. Taxes pay for services. If we are going to have to exist with lower taxes, we may have fewer services. Grown ups realize this.

You lost me at "Let's hope we Americans stop the divisiveness that now exists...." Obama is spreading divisiveness everytime he opens his mouth. He drew a line in the sand when he first took office by telling Republicans "I won". Do you really think that his speech in Boston was meant to unify people?

Yes, Mr. Obama, people are seriously pissed off at Wall Street. That’s why appointing a bunch of Masters of the Universe types and tax cheats to run treasury and your economic team — while telling the public their outrage is inappropriate is problematic.

Yes, Mr. Obama, people hate insurance companies. That’s why delivering a health care bill that forces people to become their customers is problematic.

Yes, Mr. Obama, people hate the drug companies. That’s why cutting sweetheart backroom deals with them while you’re supposed to be reforming health care is problematic.

Yes, Mr Obama, people don't want special interest groups influencing White House policy. That's why cutting sweetheart backroom deals with labor unions is problematic.

I'm bettin' that there are lots of us around who own trucks with more than 100,000 miles on them! My 98 GMC resembles that remark!
