State Dept acts.. on Bomber

S. Lindsey's picture

The State Department acted today to revoke the VISA of the "Underware Bomber" Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab.

Ok what's wrong with this picture?
12 days after the attack now his VISA is revoked? Don't you think they should have done that a little sooner?

Obama in a Televised statement blaming this incident on a Bush era policy said "Make no mistake, we will close Guantanamo prison, which has damaged our national security interests and become a tremendous recruiting tool for al-Qaeda," he said.

"In fact, that was an explicit rationale for the formation of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula."

Now I am no Historian... BUT suspected Terrorist were sent to Gitmo starting in 2002. Didn't the USS Cole get bombed by Al-Qaeda in 2000 from Yeman in the Arabian Peninsula?

Once again our Commander in Chief off the Teleprompter get's it wrong..

I believe it was Sudan that was responsible for the Cole bombing even though they did launch the attack from the coast of Yemen. The Bush administration then refused to respond to the attack. During the 9/11 hearings, Dr. Rice testified that the decision not to respond militarily to the Cole bombing was President Bush's. She said President Bush "made clear to us that he did not want to respond to al Qaeda one attack at a time. He told me he was tired of swatting flies."

German intelligence sources later reported that al Qaeda already had plans to use the retaliatory strike (which never came) to build recruitment in the Arabian Peninsula. Obama is right on this one. I'm glad Krauthammer didn't like it. He hasn't been right on a foreign policy question in at least a decade.

Bill was Prez when the attack happened but nobody knew who did it. The CIA did not issue their preliminary report fingering al Qaeda until after Bush took office. It's all in the 9/11 report.

Yes! I'm reading Clive Cussler's "Plague Ship". I enjoy all his stuff. But waiting to be read I have David Poyer's "Weapon". His Navy stuff is excellent. Then Stephen Coonts "Traitor". Got 'em for Christmas. I also got James Speicher's "The Sumter Flying Artillery - A Civil War History of the Eleventh Battalion Georgia Light Artillery". Three of my great-great uncles were in the 11th and we have a part of one of their flags.

The 11th fought at Gaines Farm among other places. They were on a bluff for three days. During the battle they saw a South Carolina infantry regiment become trapped by a rail depot when the CSA line broke and the Union army almost encircled them. They changed their artillery fire and drove the Union army back allowing the SC regiment to escape. My great-great grandfather, along another line, was Captain James Pratt of Orr's Rifles, a SC regiment. They fought at Gaines Farm too and were at a rail depot when their eastern flank collapsed and the Union army almost encircled them. Captain Pratt's records say that a Georgia artillery unit on the bluff to his west changed their fire and drove the Union army back allowing them to escape. I've been trying to prove that my gg-uncles saved my gg-gf from being captured. The two sets of relatives never met. It was not that big a battle and it's got to be but I haven't been able to prove it. What are the odds? I'm hoping the new history will give me another clue. Interesting, huh?

Of course he was wrong and I heard Charles Krauthammer rip him good for those horribly untrue comments. Facilities don't cause problems. What one does there may but surely there are ways to c ontrol that. Closing that facility was a campaign issue. It should not be a Governing issue. I can just see all of the remaining Castros giggling through their beards.
