vote them out please, bankruptcy looms for the USA

One hundred eleven new Government agencies. If this doesn't put the fear of Goverment into you, nothing will.

And how many government workers will it take staff these agencies? And not one of them will feed a hungry child, or cure a sick person!

You've seen what 8+ years of deregulation - no gov has brought us. Someone needs to make sure that the inefficiency stops - and monitor our 'honest' and 'reputable' citizens. We've just about independently run ourselves into the poor house! Grant programs are needed, since no one has the training for the new jobs that MAY come along. Did you read what the grants are for? Wouldn't you appreciate having more health professionals so that the lines would not be so long for those who can't afford 'A' class health insurance?

I suspect, that there is enough bureaucratic inertia that something will come out of committee which congress will pass and the President will have to sign since 2010 mid terms elections are coming. This bill, which will be the law of realm, will be absent of some the extremes that many liberals wanted but also will include attributes that many conservatives will find most unpalatable. In the end, beltway politics will deliver something that in 5 or so years the "Guv" will once again revisit in order to correct.

And the wheels on the bus go round and round.

Happy New Year everyone!!!!

Now back to the Twilight Zone Marathon.

Pretty safe prediction since it has been apparent since the election!

It was time. Enough of the Insurance company coddling.

Most seniors have thoroughly enjoyed Medicare and it has been most beneficial to millions.

If a senior wants to go to the Mayo, or Cleveland Clinic which is out his group, then he can pay the difference out of pocket.

As to those not old enough for Medicare, they now are covered in various ways without having to suffer all day in Grady's smelly waiting rooms.

I also think that "efficiency" will pay for nearly all of the coverage if we enforce it.

I am a Senior. I have Medicare Part A. I have private insurance. I went to Cleveland Clinic, Florida to see a Neurologist. I had to pay for transportation but my private insurance paid the cost of seeing the doctor.

Oopso, forgot--I did have a $30 co-pay for seeing a "Specialist".

Enough of the Insurance company coddling.

If the a proposed plan includes a "public option" and prohibits pre-existing condition exclusions than I suspect private insurance schemes will seek other markets leaving only one choice. So in 5 or so years when the "Guv" has to re-visit the issue and discovers that the "evil" insurance companies weren't the root of the problem because health care costs are still growing and crowding out other components in the GDP; then what?

I don't recall you screaming "bankruptcy" back when the Bush administration proposed to invade Iraq for no apparent reason and without any realistic plan on how to pay for the "Bush" war. Where was your outrage then?

Waging war is NOT free, however, Bush put it on our nation's "credit card" and there is silence from the conservative wing.

voted to go to Iraq..

I seem to recall them getting on their soapbox demanding the right to vote on it.. Then later said they never did..

That's REAL Hypocrisy MS..

BTW.. The Pres can only propose spending it takes Congress to write the check..

They (dems) who happened to be in control btw.. approved that credit card..

History is a b*&%#$ isn't it.. SO easy to find info since it already happened..

Because sometimes events and situations are manipulated to gain results we want. For instance, if I said your life depends on you voting "yes" on TARP, we might even see the right side of the aisle vote "Yes." It's your life or death, right? We'd march out evidence of how a "No" vote would kill you; literally. So, why would democrats vote yes on attacking Iraq in 2002? I may have found an answer:
The president praised the congressional action, declaring "America speaks with one voice."

Here was President 43's argument for war:

"The Bush administration and its supporters in Congress say Saddam has kept a stockpile of chemical and biological weapons in violation of U.N. resolutions and has continued efforts to develop nuclear weapons. Bush also has argued that Iraq could give chemical or biological weapons to terrorists."

Lindsey: Exactly how much of the President's assertions above were found to be what we call truthful?

Here is what honest "Bipartisanship" looks like:

"Ahead of the vote, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle announced Thursday morning he would support Bush on Iraq, saying it is important for the country "to speak with one voice at this critical moment." He would "support " the president. What a concept from the "other side of the aisle."

Now, this is what a party that allows members to think and vote independently looks like:

"The Senate vote sharply divided Democrats, with 29 voting for the measure and 21 against. All Republicans except Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island voted for passage."

Not just, No no no. The democrats appear to have actually voted what they felt; not what they were commanded to vote. I guess they did not want the wheels of government to grind to a halt in the grid-lock. Seems they knew that President 43 was the President.

Here's another stipulation of the war resolution that was not exactly followed by the administration in charge at that time.

"Bush also must certify that action against Iraq would not hinder efforts to pursue the al Qaeda terrorist network that attacked New York and Washington last year."

You sure give a one seat majority in congress a lot of weight from 2001 to 2002: A majority that was gone in November of 2002. And, as you know, the pay as you go absolutely went with the conservative majority that controlled both houses as of the November 2002 elections. Looky here on Fox News:
Republicans control both houses.

Just want us to be clear on our history.

As Heath Ledger asked, Why so serious? Let's have a joke about this light-hearted war thing:

Nope. They're not under here!"

And a bit of HONESTY:

"Turns out he didn't"

Try something a bit more current.. since living in the past is apparently your New Years resolution..but then again what's changed?

Show me the Dems that said there were no WMDs at that time?
Can't find them can you.. Bill Cinton said so as well.. So give up yhat old Bush Lied theme.. If he did then so did the Dems and every free Government in the World.. I guess the 10,000+ Kurds just died thinking themselves to death..

"The Democratic Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995. Although the Democrats held fewer than 50 Senate seats, they had an operational majority because the two independent senators caucused with the Democrats for organizational purposes"

Since the theme was spending deficits and Bush's last 2 years of spending.. I can see why you would want to take the "wayback" machine and comment on earlier years..

Oh don't get me wrong the Republicans were just as complicit as the Democrats were..

I guess the latest 4 BILLION plus in pork spending just flys right over your head?

See you forget I can't stand either party.. I am not a PARTY "HACK".
Unlike others.. I can see past a party and see what these "politicians" are doing to America.

Remember Barbara Lee? Everyone said she was a traitor and that she would never be re-elected. She's still there. Doesn't owe anyone anything - except the TRUTH. We need more independent representatives who can think for themselves and stand up to deception.

asking if Democrats voted to go to war in Iraq back in 2002, how can I answer that without referencing the early 2000s? You have an interesting way of trying to frame an argument brother.

If you ask if democrats ALLOWED the Iraq War to happen, I would absolutely agree with you. If you try to make the "but for" argument, that but for actions of the democratic party, we would not have gone to war in Iraq, I would humbly disagree. The March 2003 War in Iraq happened because "conservatives" with "conservative" leadership wanted it to happen. I showed you above where the only votes against that war came from: 21 dems and a RINO. That's the facts jack. Even Cynthia McKenney, with all of the flack she absorbs, stood squarely against the WMD claims.

As for where the country is moving and where the people's hearts are, I hope Dick Cheney runs for President in 2012. Cheney/Palin. That way we can see just how "conservative" our country really is Smiling

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a major victory for the White House, the Senate early Friday voted 77-23 to authorize President Bush to attack Iraq if Saddam Hussein refuses to give up weapons of mass destruction as required by U.N. resolutions.

Hours earlier, the House approved an identical resolution, 296-133.

The president praised the congressional action, declaring "America speaks with one voice." CNN

Senator Hillary Clinton's (Democrat, New York) address to the US Senate while voting YES to authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq:

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, co More..mfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members...

"It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well, effects American security." Senator Clinton Oct 2002

“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.” — From a letter signed by Joe Lieberman, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara A. Milulski, Tom Daschle, & John Kerry among others on October 9, 1998

This December will mark three years since United Nations inspectors last visited Iraq. There is no doubt that since that time, Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to refine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer- range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies.” — From a December 6, 2001 letter signed by Bob Graham, Joe Lieberman, Harold Ford, & Tom Lantos among others.

“Whereas Iraq has consistently breached its cease-fire agreement between Iraq and the United States, entered into on March 3, 1991, by failing to dismantle its weapons of mass destruction program, and refusing to permit monitoring and verification by United Nations inspections; Whereas Iraq has developed weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and biological capabilities, and has made positive progress toward developing nuclear weapons capabilities” — From a joint resolution submitted by Tom Harkin and Arlen Specter on July 18, 2002

Iraq made commitments after the Gulf War to completely dismantle all weapons of mass destruction, and unfortunately, Iraq has not lived up to its agreement.” — Barbara Boxer, November 8, 2002

“There’s no question that Saddam Hussein is a threat… Yes, he has chemical and biological weapons. He’s had those for a long time. But the United States right now is on a very much different defensive posture than we were before September 11th of 2001… He is, as far as we know, actively pursuing nuclear capabilities, though he doesn’t have nuclear warheads yet. If he were to acquire nuclear weapons, I think our friends in the region would face greatly increased risks as would we.” — Wesley Clark on September 26, 2002

“I am absolutely convinced that there are weapons…I saw evidence back in 1998 when we would see the inspectors being barred from gaining entry into a warehouse for three hours with trucks rolling up and then moving those trucks out.” — Clinton’s Secretary of Defense William Cohen in April of 2003

“Iraq is not the only nation in the world to possess weapons of mass destruction, but it is the only nation with a leader who has used them against his own people.” — Tom Daschle in 1998

“Saddam Hussein’s regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal.” — John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002

Let’s face it. To some people, Barack Obama has never done anything right and never will. When you start with an attitude like that, it becomes easy to criticize. In fact, the more he tries to do, the more criticism he invites from the Luddites among us. (The dictionary will tell you that a Luddite is an opponent of technological or industrial change. Someone, in short, who does not believe in progress and opposes change.)

As I write this, I have in front of me a BusinessWeek article which explains how healthcare costs will rise again in 2010. The cost of health insurance for 2010 is going up 7 percent, after it went up 6 percent in 2009. Employers’ healthcare costs are reported to have gone up 149 percent since 2000, while employee wages went up 37 percent.

More and more of the cost is being passed onto the employees. A survey of 270 large corporations shows the employees’ share of the premiums will be up 10 percent (on average) for 2010, after an 8 percent increase in 2009. In addition, the employees are seeing increases in their copays and deductibles.

This is unsustainable. We can’t have healthcare costs up 149 percent while paychecks go up only 37 percent.

An intelligent person would say something has to be done.

Everybody understands that you can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs. Our president is trying to improve the situation. He has proved willing to listen to anybody with a good idea. That idea cannot be to stay with what we’ve got because that is leading to disaster.

So cut him so slack, the naysayers out there. Much of what you say consists of distortions and outright lies, which you’ve been fed by radio talk show blabbermouths who are exploiting your low IQ and whom you’re simply parroting.

Very good point. So you believe the optimum strategy for America is to accept Harry Reid's approved plan when even you would have to agree it is substantially flawed? Why not remedy the problem one step at a time kind of like the ant eating the preverbial elephant-one bite at a time.
Let's begin with tort reform, move onto beauracratic enhanced waste elimination, then to a true market for health insurers free of state boundaries, address the issue of payment of medical care for so called 'illegals', and even payment for abortions-after all, it's the law of the land.

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 12/31/2009 - 3:37pm.

The bureaucratic waste elimination is one point that the 'sides' agree on; it was in both bills that anyone receiving federal funds could not use those funds for 'abortion'. Hey - have you read the bill? We're all going to watch carefully as they try to meld the bills. . .stay tuned.

Mapleleaf,

The liberals plans to change our healthcare system do not represent progress. They want to impose a broken model that has proven to limit access and drive up costs.

That is what I am against. I am all for making changes that improve access, such as allowing insurance companies to sell policies across state lines.

The trouble is, the libs plan isn't about improving access or healthcare, it's all about power and control over the American people.
They are in bed with trial lawyers and pharmaceutical companies.

When the libs get serious about improving the system, we will vote for progress. Progress is not implementing a system that has been proven over and over again to fail.

There are other sites where people are having a meaningful discussion regarding American Health Care - and if these bloggers would just expand their reading - they actually could share some thought provoking responses. Oh well - maybe Fayette County is just a bit different from the rest of the country. It's not all about 'conservative' vs. 'liberal'.

"It's not all about 'conservative' vs. 'liberal'."

When you believe it is an ideology that is destroying America it is an Us vs. them fight.

The Democrat party has been HIJACKED by the PROGRESSIVES.. the Geroge Soros, Michael Moore crowd.

These RADICALS both in the populace and this Administration want to TRANSFORM America into some sort of Socialist utopia.. Which has not survived ANYWHERE.

It is their EGO that makes them think they can do it better and smarter than any other Country.

It is to the determent of America if we allow them to succeed. I for one will not rest until they are not only defeated but are CRUSHED and their lifeless ideology is broken apart and scattered in the winds.

Tomorrow or so I'll go through the blogs and destroy your arguments with my devastatingly insightful logic. Something for you to look forward to. But right now... it's COLD!

Because you have humorously rearranged reality.

"The Democrat party has been HIJACKED by the PROGRESSIVES.. the Geroge Soros, Michael Moore crowd."

Really, SL? So, which of the radical lefts' desires appear to be headed for law?

Gay marraige?

Single-payer healthcare?

A national gun ban?

A world where Sheppard Smith, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, and Charley Crist can safely come out of the closet?

This is a statement folks on your side often create to make our government seem "dangerous." The facts show Our PRESIDENT to be quite the moderate.... even a bit hawkish on war. Try as you might to paint history differently, he expanded the TARP handed to him by a Republican President, and has been moderate ever since.

Now, as to radicals: Do you see more George Soros bumperstickers round here or "Palin '08? That's where folks have used a razor to cut out the old man and just support the creator of "The lie of the year." Which party is radical? The one that created a Tea Party against America's government, tried to push it as "bi-partisan," and is now trying to meld it with the GOP? Or the party that won the last democratically held election?

The Tea GOP party

Now I notice you sometimes focus on the source and not the info, so here is a source YOU can trust:

The Tea GOP party on Fox News

Its funny to see people who elude to "revolutions" against The Government of The United States call ANYONE "radical." Pure, unadulterated comedy.

I can tell your little hiatus has not done anything for your points of view.. They're still wrong.

As to the radicals.. Just look here..

Universal Healthcare
Cap and Trade..
Terrorist being charged as criminals..
Closing Gitmo

Communist in the Whitehouse
Mao supporters in the Whitehouse
Eugenics supporters in the Whitehouse

I really could go on and on.. You can keep coming back with BUSH that's all you have..

Your view that the Teaparty members are the radicals is amazing and I really mean that..

Wow Mainstream Moms and Dads are now radicals because they don't want this Government spending their childrens future..

You see the difference in Liberals and Conservatives (note I did not say Republicans) is..

Liberals believe we are supposed to support the Government.. Conservatives believe the Government is there to support us.. and I don't mean by Welfare.

They work for us Hack not the other way around.

Your indoctrination is now complete..

I am looking at this administration and its destruction of our Constitution..

1. Did our President make single-payer a deal breaker? Nooooo.

2. Is it radical to think that we should reduce carbon emissions?

3. Did we not try the 1993 WTC bombers in court as criminals? Giuliani lauded it. Tom Ridge supported it. And the terrorists are incarcerated. Some of us have confidence in the U.S. judicial system....like "conservatives" use to.

4. Is it now "radical" to not want a prison where people are held indefinitely with no charges? I think folks voted on that one already.

5. The White House is occupied by the POTUS. Just saying that there is a communist in the White House answers your original question quite well. IMHO.

"Your view that the Teaparty members are the radicals is amazing and I really mean that..

How about 60 senators voting for a bill so significant that it encompasses nigh on to eighty-five percent of the nations GDP with no more than two reading the darn thing?

How about less than 8% of the entire US Congress having no private enterprise experience?

There's two that should incite some cogent thoughts or responses, or has the Jonestown lemming philosophy taken its toll?

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 12/31/2009 - 2:05pm.

Wonderful information! At last! What two legislators were the only ones who read the bill? I'm sure that the rest of the nation will have something to say about their representative who didn't read either the Senate or the House Bill. (How did they ever get to agreement on 80% of the bill?) Private enterprise experience? Thank God! Look what the guys and gals from Enron, etc. have done for the country. I agree with the poster who felt that our representatives needed more 'real' world experience. Looking forward to your cogent response. Thanks! Still nipping on the Kool-Ade? The rest of the nation, my goodness you are naive. America has tolerated Congressional incompetence/elitism for most of this century and before. Perhaps you might consider reading something outside your comfort zone-I've heard that Bonker$ even believes it stretches the mind.

And you consider those jerks at Enron better than those on Wall St who showed absolutely no remorse about rewarding themselves with TARP funds. At least the Enron jerks are serving time.

Health Care or Insurance reform (or whatever the political elite are calling it these days) will spell disaster for America and her working citizens. You can't take from the working class and give to the "less fortunate" without hurting the economy and the producers.

Government does not produce, they only take. Creating more takers does nothing to solve the problem.

This bill will be a job killer, not a job creator. What good is health care if you don't have a job to go with it?
