An honest citizen

Although you'll probably never see this, I want to thank the anonymous young guy who found the check book my wife dropped in a local store's parking lot and turned it in to the store clerk. I may be a pessimist, but I would not have been surprised by a different outcome.

I was in Ross, yesterday, and a nice person had just called them, to tell them that items were in her bag, but accidently not on her receipt. She was on her way back to the store, to pay for them. If you think about it, it's really easy to do the right thing. Merry Christmas!

One year not so long ago, my daughter and I were Christmas shopping at the Pavilion and while I can't remember which store we were in, ( a clothing type store) the clerk gave us our change and then decided he had shorted us 5 dollars. He gave us the $5 and we went on our way. We were sitting in my truck when my kid said the clerk was wrong, and had given us $5 too much. I asked her what we should do, and she replied we needed to give the money back, as it was a mistake on the clerks part. I just said let's take it back, even though I was almost beside myself because she had answered the right way. She had realized the clerk would had been responsible for the money, even though he was trying to do the right thing. I don't know if he actually ever got the money, as he was on break when we returned to the store and we gave the money to his replacement. But the fact is, given the choice, she opted for the right choice, without hesitation. I think most people would do the right thing, it's just the crappy people get the most chances.

Thank you, I wish I could take all the credit but I just point her in the right direction and she does the rest.
