Residency issues expected at school board meeting Monday

Though no details are available, a called meeting of the Fayette County School Board Monday night will include an agenda item relating to the residency of some students.

The agenda indicates that the work session will include an update of residency investigations along with a discussion on additional capital projects and a decision on a new charter bus company.

Other items include a discussion on a calendar for school board meetings and a public college/university report.

The specific background information associated with the items listed on the agenda for the Monday meeting, and often the agendas themselves, are not available to the public prior to the day of the meeting since the school system does not customarily furnish that information on its website.

(1) A few Notices sent from schools and the Board...

(2) A few days in place with a good video camera...

(3) A few highly publicized fraud prosecutions

(4) A few hefty fines and mandatory payments of restitution to the taxpayers of Fayette County --

Hmmm.....
This would come to an appropriate end through voluntary compliance with the laws & regulations; (Admittedly -- a novel concept, indeed!)..

Just check the students dropped off within 2 blocks from the school with plates from neighboring counties. It's an everyday thing.

Heck, I find it amazing how many out-of-county cars just drive right through the carpool line. You can also go to a home basketball game at one of our middle schools in north Fayette and walk through the parking lot. Our kids get a lot of support from folks in Fulton County and Clayton County, even when both teams are Fayette County teams. The FCBOE has, for years, turned a blind eye to the whole problem of out-of-county students. They’re just not going to deal with it.

problem comes in that a number of Georgia 'prestige' plates do not display the county of issue.
Fayette Schools should require parents to provide current proof of residency no less then yearly (I personally like twice a year). I also notice that many schools have a police officer at the school during the day. It might do the schools better if the Officer stood out in front of the school where drop off's take place instead of watching the parents drop off kids on their golf carts.

Right!

Hey, it is a free country, you can go to school anywhere you want--at least until, a school is full.

In addition to workers at the school being allowed to bring their kids from anywhere---so can teachers and others.

Good football players have been trucked in since I was a kid!

I knew a doctor with a huge home who housed any good football player who wished to attend the local school!
It was no secret but they used a good excuse----boys were rowdy, he took care of them.

I know there are rules about where to attend school (except for college) but they are continuously broken and enforced only for minorities usually.

I think it is another stupid rule which needs changing---just apply and if an opening you can go---why not. Taxes even out except for those needing a better school.
I'm wasting my time explaining this as it is "socialistic."

"It was no secret" ....WELL THEN BONKERS...TELL US... I'm sure this rich doctor won't mind telling us so we can all quit seeing him ...or at the very least...he could reimburse the rest of us who PAID...FOR HIS LITTLE TROUPE OF A@@@ H@@@LES to come here. That is stealing...does he want to pay us back..? What doctors live in North Cove?

I believe there are laws which prohibit students from fraudulently attending schools outside of their area. If you do not live in this area then your kids have no business attending our schools.

If FCBOE chooses to allow employees kids access to our schools (as a benefit), that is a different story. I also believe that they to have pay a small fee for that right.

Anyone receiving special permission to attend our schools should recognize that this is a privilege. As such, all special permissions should be on a probationary basis. Some of these children are behavior problems and should not be allowed to disrupt the learning of the students whose parents actually pay the taxes.
