The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has made arrests in connection with two armed robberies that were reported on Nov. 29 and again on Nov. 30.

On Thursday, Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators, with the assistance of the Fairburn and Palmetto police departments, arrested Sedrick Whatley, 19, and Kevin Wygant, 17, both of Fairburn. They were each charged with two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of kidnapping.

Investigators also arrested a Fairburn juvenile for the incident that took place on Nov. 30. The juvenile has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and was taken to a youth detention center, deputies said.

The Nov. 29 incident occurred when Coleman’s Grocery, located at 1467 Ga. Highway 92 North, was robbed by two armed suspects.

A store employee had just closed and locked the front doors, when two men approached him in the store parking lot wearing clown-type masks. The two suspects displayed a silver handgun and forced the store employee back inside. Once inside, the suspects stole an undetermined amount of cash, lottery tickets and tobacco products.

The Nov. 30 incident took place when a Fayette County victim was followed to his home after completing a transaction at the Bank of America in Fayetteville. When the victim arrived at his home on Rocky Creek Court, he was approached by three individuals wearing masks and brandishing handguns.

The three suspects stole the victim’s wallet that contained identification cards, credit cards, and cash. None of the victims was hurt during these incidents.

Way to go FCSO!!! The news of the robbery in my next door neighbor's garage was, quite literally, too close to home. Glad to know you've caught the perpetrators. Let's hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent.

I stand corrected on an earlier post: I said that my neighbor was followed home from the Coleman's grocery (near here) that had been robbed. I see that I had misunderstood. He was followed home from the Bank of America.

So what do you do these days when you want to complete an ATM transaction? Meander all over the place on the way home to be sure you're not followed?

I am so pleased that an armed guard is stationed at Bank of America on New Hope/Glenn. I hope all Bank of America's have the same personnel. Now it's obvious we still have to be aware of who is in front of us and who is behind us at all times. I think I'll just meander to the police building in the Pavilion or wherever one may be!! We left the LA area to get away from this type of 'living'. In these economic times - there is no place to 'hide'. Most of the time, life in Fayette County is a dream!

they didn't follow me home. This report would have been more like; Burglary suspects at the Piedmont Hospital. Suspects had around 6 bullet holes each and are hanging on for life.

I sure do. But there would be a few differences. First, I wouldn't be on a subway. Second, all my firearms are registered.

Problem. You could be in compliance with the law but conceivably still have a civil case brought against you to pay for the perpetual support of an injured perpetrator. If your up against an O.J. jury you're in big trouble. Below is from wikipedia regarding civil case against Goetz

Civil trial

Cabey's lawyers William Kunstler and Ron Kuby filed a civil suit against Goetz the month following the shootings.[52] The case was tried eleven years later in The Bronx, with race the dominant theme.[53] During jury selection, Kuby asked the mostly non-white prospective jurors whether they had ever been discriminated against. Goetz admitted to previous use of racial language and to smoking marijuana laced with angel dust in the 1980s.[54] Kuby portrayed Goetz as a racist aggressor; Goetz's defense was that when surrounded he reacted in fear of being again robbed and beaten. Newspaper columnist Jimmy Breslin testified that in a 1985 interview, Cabey denied his involvement in an attempted robbery, but said that Canty, Allen, and Ramseur intended to rob Goetz.[39]

The jury of four blacks and two Hispanics found that Goetz had acted recklessly and had deliberately inflicted emotional distress on Cabey.[28][53] Jurors interviewed after the trial said that Goetz's decision to fire at Cabey a second time was a key factor in their decision.[55] The jury awarded Cabey $43 million – $18 million for pain and suffering and $25 million in punitive damages.[56]

Goetz subsequently filed for bankruptcy, saying that legal expenses had left him almost penniless. A judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court ruled that the $43 million jury award could not be dismissed by the bankruptcy.[57] Asked in 2004 whether he was making payments on the judgment, Goetz responded "I don't think I've paid a penny on that", and referred any questions on the subject to his attorney.[58]
