NCR hosted the grand opening of its Services Center of Excellence in Peachtree City Monday. The expansion is adding 900 jobs to the local economy.

The expansion also will bring another 125 visitors each week to Peachtree City. The visitors will be NCR employees enrolled at the NCR University training program.

The company has a host of business solutions for a variety of sectors including retail, hospitality, healthcare, financial, travel, gaming and entertainment solutions. The company also maintains and services other branded hardware in those fields as well.

NCR’s self-serve kiosks are deployed by large companies including Delta Air Lines.

The 360,000-square-foot Center of Excellence in Peachtree City was remodeled to create a world-class service support environment and training facility. The customer service engineers located there assist NCR customers worldwide.

The expansion and remodeling of the NCR campus in Peachtree City is valued at $15 million. But local and state officials place a higher value on the jobs created by the expansion, particularly in light of a difficult economy.

Fayette County Commission Chairman Jack Smith joined Gov. Sonny Perdue and U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson in thanking NCR for choosing Peachtree City and Fayette County for the project.

NCR Services Senior Vice President Christine Wallace said the facility represents an investment in NCR’s most critical component: its people. She also thanked the state of Georgia’s QuickStart program, which helped provide rapid training for employees to help get operations underway quickly.

The training center also will be showcased to prospective NCR customers to show them how prepared the company is to meet all their service needs.

NCR executive Vice President John Bruno said the company’s investment is aimed at further improving its customer service from an engineering perspective.

“We think this facility is not only for the here and now but for our long-term growth,” Bruno said.

Bruno said the company has been very impressed with the pool of talent Georgia has provided, not just here but also at the company’s new manufacturing facility in Columbus, Ga., which employs more than 800 people.

Bruno said the local facility will be used to host potential customers so they can see how they will be taken care of after the sale.

The Peachtree City facility handles 20,000 service incidents a day. The campus also includes the company’s global service parts headquarters.

Gov. Perdue said he thought NCR and Georgia’s partnership was “a perfect fit.”

Sen. Isakson said he was especially pleased that NCR was investing in manufacturing in Georgia. He also said NCR is on the leading edge of medical technology, which will help provide savings in the healthcare sector.

Did they say they have added 900 new jobs or added a few and brought existing employees down here from elsewere? Did they provide any pay ranges on these 900 jobs? Could you afford to own a home, and live here having one of these 900 jobs? It's all smiles, back slaps, and photo-ops for the politicial class but what's the reality here?

Excellent questions...and, when they say 900 jobs to the local economy, are they referring to the Peachtree City local economy or the Atlanta local economy? Do these 900 jobs include the ones in Duluth and/or Columbus? What type of jobs are going to be in PTC? Any professional/technical level jobs or just call center/manufacturing jobs? What is the timeframe on the new PTC jobs?
