Peachtree City's second mayor, Ralph Jones, died today, The Citizen has confirmed.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized but will be published here at TheCitizen.com once they are available.

Jones, 80, served from 1966 to 1969 and under his leadership the city bought its first fire truck, began fire services with that one pumper and a dozen volunteers, and established the police department.

The police department was staffed by Chief Haskell Barber and one patrolman, with the sheriff's department responding to calls at night.

Also during Jones' tenure the city began its Little League baseball program.

Jones was the only remaining charter member in the Peachtree City Rotary Club. He served as club president in Rotary from 1971-1972.

Jones was born and raised in Franklinville, N.C. He is a graduate of North Carolina State with a degree in Civil Engineering.
