Plunkett’s postcard and smear tactics; Logsdon in a skirt?Mayoral candidate Cyndi Plunkett mailed her third campaign postcard. For the third time, she does not include a single word about any accomplishments or her voting record of the last four years. Anyone who attended the council meetings or kept up with the local news knows why. The big gotcha statement in her Don Haddix bashing postcard reads, “Who will burst our bubble? Don Haddix will.” Wow, that is insightful. I am saddened to see Plunkett stoop to this kind of glossy say-nothing breed of politics in a local election, run by paid handlers who do not care whether our city exists or not. Like Harold Logsdon before her, Plunkett has learned she can cloak her legislative intentions in the smoke of pretty postcards and faulty logic designed to smear the character of the opponent. Unfortunately, there are some gullible enough to follow Plunkett’s lead. Humorously, Plunkett got the endorsement of the Fayette County Republican Party. Since Haddix is a conservative independent, Plunkett was the only candidate they could pass. While some consider the faction known as the Fayette County Republican Party as a less than effective body, they did their duty, holding the nose, nodding at Plunkett, overlooking the record-setting government expenditures, increased city fees across the board, escalation of taxes and plunging level of city services. Yes, that particular bloc of the Grand Old Party can declare a jihad against the Democrats, but they cannot make their own toe the line. Four years of budgetary mayhem from the Logsdon/Boone/Plunkett gang was highlighted by inconsistent spending priorities and expenditures always exceeding revenue. Plunkett never had a balanced budget in her four years in office. There has also been a great deal of hooliganism along the perimeter of the Plunkett campaign. A member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church began a smear email campaign to her CHRP brothers and sisters full of lies and disparaging remarks in order to elect Plunkett. An officer with the McIntosh Academic Booster Club and an officer with McIntosh Cross-Country Booster Club used their official email lists to send pro-Plunkett endorsements. It is important to remember that when you are placed in a position of authority with a non-profit organization, civic group, homeowners association or school booster; you act as an official custodian of the organization’s private records. Political endorsements through those official channels are not only inappropriate, violating the trust of the membership, but could also be illegal. Former County Commissioner Peter Pfeifer, voted out of office for failing to work with the city governments in the county, threw his support behind Plunkett. In trying to explain why he supports Plunkett, he believes she is “someone who will stand up and forcefully point out what they think are errors.” Alas, it’s been poor Haddix who has pointed out the errors of the Logsdon/Boone/Plunkett pro-big box and careless budgeting acts, losing in a series of 3-2 votes. It appears a detached Pfeifer supports the errors made rather than the person trying to resolve them. In the blogs, Cyndi Plunkett has been described as “Harold Logsdon in a skirt.” Although Plunkett is much better looking than Logsdon in a skirt, their political styles are very similar. If you think you got a good deal by voting for Harold Logsdon, then you will not be disappointed with Cyndi Plunkett. When you examine the similarities, Plunkett is very likely to carry on the Logsdon legacy. Plunkett clearly stated in her letter to the editor that Don Haddix and Doug Sturbaum refused to advance the interests of the Logsdon/Boone/Plunkett supporters. Plunkett’s remarks about Haddix in that letter said more about him and his character than she has said about herself in three mailings and a campaign website. Don’t be a laggard; vote.
