Early PTC voting starts with a trickleTue, 11/17/2009 - 4:51pm
By: John Munford
Early voting for the three runoff races for mayor and two Peachtree City council posts began in earnest Monday. To vote this week, residents will have to travel to downtown Fayetteville to cast a ballot at the Fayette County Elections Office. The office is located in the county’s Stonewall government complex at the southwest intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 85. On Monday, 31 people voted in person and the office received 36 absentee ballots in the mail, said county Elections Supervisor Tom Sawyer. Early voting continues in Fayetteville this week through Friday afternoon, with the polls open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Next week, the Peachtree City Library will be added as a polling site for Monday, Nov. 23 through Wednesday, Nov. 25, along with the county elections office in Fayetteville. The polls will also be open the same time frame next week: from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you miss voting by 5 p.m. Nov. 25, you’ll have to wait until election day on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and report to your assigned polling precinct. Even if you did not vote in the Nov. 3 election, you may vote in the runoff, provided that you are a registered voter. Due to the Thanksgiving holidays, none of the polls will be open Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27. And Georgia does not allow voting on the Monday preceding election day. Sawyer encouraged residents to vote this week, as there aren’t expected to be many crowds. login to post comments |
