2-2 tie dooms 6-ft. PTC fence requestFri, 11/06/2009 - 4:42pm
By: John Munford
A resident’s request to change the minimum front yard fence height in Peachtree City from four feet to six feet will go unconsidered for now. Smokerise resident David Cree asked the city council for the change so he can better protect his property. He cited two recent burglaries in his subdivision as a reason he wants to increase his fence height, and also bring it closer to the street. Currently the city allows fences to be built only after the road setback on a particular parcel. A representative of the Smokerise homeowners association told council that many residents would oppose fences reaching six feet tall. Councilman Steve Boone said he felt the idea had some merit and some homes on larger acreage could have a higher fence. Boone suggested staff conduct research on the matter to bring back to council at a later date. But his motion failed on a 2-2 tie, with Cyndi Plunkett voting in favor and Harold Logsdon joining Doug Sturbaum in dissent. Due to the tie, the matter was considered dead and council moved to the next item on the agenda. login to post comments |
