Some joined me today to watch the memorial service for the 13 heroes at Fort Hood. Anyone watching could see the support, love, grief, and unity of the families and friends in attendance. Americans all supporting Americans. Two present at our 'viewing' had experienced a similar situation - being in a military community where more than one or two were lost in a tragic situation - but the horror of this situation was that it happened where our military personnel should feel safe and secure. This military installation has had more than 500 personnel 'miss' roll call.

All are concerned as to 'why' this happened. Hopefully the answer to that question will help us to be more cognizant of 'warning' signs of persons who commit such dastardly deeds.

Watching this ceremony reinforced my pride in the American way of life and those men and women who have volunteered to defend our country at home and abroad.

This is such a tragedy. The report stated that he was alive. We may get more insight into 'why?'

US Army Major Malik Nadal Hassan Identified As Primary Shooter At Fort Hood
John Carney|Nov. 5, 2009, 6:00 PM | 1,407 |
PrintTags: Crime
The suspected gunman in the Fort Hood shooting has been identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan. He was killed and two other suspects have been apprehended, according to Army Spokesman Lt. General Robert W. Cone.

There are unconfirmed reports that Major Hasan was a convert to Islam and originally from Virginia. He was reportedly scheduled to deploy to either Iraq or Afghanistan and was unhappy about it.

It goes without saying that the fact that the shooter was a Muslim will turn this into a gigantic story.

Submitted by Bonkers on Fri, 11/06/2009 - 3:24am.

The man (Major) is not dead!

He has been a Muslim since birth.

He is a Psychiatrist (MD) and was probably using the army for his training and didn't want to go to Iraq.

The fact that he is a Muslim may have made him feel badly about Muslim deaths in the middle east. Even Psychiatrists can go off the deep end.

It is likely that he will be executed by the army.

As to a "gigantic" story, yes, but not because of his name!
There are many Hassans and Maliks in the world.

Submitted by BenAthar on Sat, 11/07/2009 - 12:26pm.

Our military doesn't execute anyone anymore since the late 1800's. Treason is supposed to be death, but it's all political to even get prison time these days.

Submitted by Bonkers on Sat, 11/07/2009 - 1:35pm.

Not since 1961 has there been a KNOWN execution----several in the field, however.
One was ordered last month, but a judge stopped it temporarily.

The major may be sentenced to death I think.
But politics will prevail, I suppose. (Imagine the mess with worldwide Islam?)

Actually, it was 1961 - U.S. Army Private John A. Bennett.

It goes without saying that the fact that the shooter was a Muslim will turn this into a gigantic story.

Americans died today on American soil - killed by an American soldier and possibly two accomplices. That's the story that is tragic and devastating to the families of the victims and all Americans. An American who may have been a Christian killed American children and adults in a federal building not too long ago. The story is that an American killed Americans! Citizens throughout the country and the world were concerned about the families at Fort Hood. There are Americans who are Muslim that are just as devastated by this as are American Christians, Jews, Buddhists, non-believers, etc. Normal - you are not normal.

Submitted by normal on Fri, 11/06/2009 - 3:57pm.

Yes he is a home grown muslim terrorist. No question, and he is a whimp. I hope ALA strikes him dead soon. Or maybe that mohammed rag they talk about. I dont believe in being politcally correct. Its all a bunch of crap. Yes we need to do more profiling. Life is a bitch but we all know what types of people do what types of crimes. If you dont like it, TO BAD

Submitted by Davids mom on Tue, 11/10/2009 - 4:36pm.

but we all know what types of people do what types of crimes

I know that all 'types' of people are capable of doing all types of crimes. It's too bad that you don't understand that. All types of people are also capable of being creative, intelligent, artistic, kind, compassionate, etc., etc., etc. - and I like that!

Here is what "normal" said:

It goes without saying that the fact that the shooter was a Muslim will turn this into a gigantic story.

Now, if the above is some kind of outrageous statement, I sure don't see it. It IS and WILL be a huge story in the news.

Nowhere does "normal" say anything about all Muslims being terrorists and blah blah blah

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 10:55pm.

Not outrageous - but the story is not huge because the shooter was an American of Muslim faith - but because an AMERICAN killed AMERICANS on American soil. I did not accuse Normal of calling the shooter a terrorist - which he is - but he is an American terrorist - like the guy who killed women and children in the Federal Building years ago. Please re-read what I said. .. . and read the latest news release.

What you are failing to acknowledge is that people want to know the "why". It is inevitable that the motivation, the mens rea, will be determined. The guy survived and is in stable condition. The story will be bigger than the Luby's massacre of 20 years ago (also in Killeen)if it is determined that the soldier turned into a jihadist. Crazy is crazy and it is brushed off by most people. Crazy with a religious purpose-one steeped in the Koran--will put a chill in the average American's mind. There are a lot of Muslims here.

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 11:18pm.

The 'why' is important to learn (I mentioned that in my previous post) - and will hopefully help to develop strategies to prevent this. So - I'll wait to hear the 'why'. This doctor has not been called a 'terrorist' yet. I believe that we should not jump to the incorrect conclusion that American Muslims are all jihadists. . .but I realize with our history that this a possibility.

I know a great deal about Muslims. The only way to survive with them on the planet is to leave them alone on their territory. Just as we kill those who ARE NOT Muslim who are criminals, we should also kill those of the Muslim type (like 911) when they ARE criminals.
We can't expect to kill nearly a quarter million of them with bombs and them stay quiet, however.

We are going to get out of Iraq asnd leave it just as it was nine years ago, except for a couple of divisions in the green zone for a scare tactic. (like Korea, Germany, etc.)

You know what you soound like with your idiot rhetoric, etc.?
Ever see an old Gabby Hayes movies where a crowd of stupid beards standing around are mumbling at every word spoken by the hero? Saying things like: yeah! You bet! Lets string em up. Yeah! Whatcha say Roy?

If it is true that he had converted to Islam, and if he did this horrible deed because of that FAITH, then, NO, he is no American and he is a ISLAMIC TERRORIST. He deserves no mercy. My heart is sick for these families that have and will continue to suffer this loss!

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 10:48pm.

READ!! He is an American, born in America - of Muslim faith and Middle Eastern heritage. Were German-Americans considered terrorists during WWII? (We won't even mention what happened to Japanese Americans during WWII) He was a soldier, a psychiatrist who worked with the soldiers who returned from killing Muslims in the Middle East. (who are killing not only Americans - but their own) He did not convert to Islam. He had a mental breakdown. This whole terrorist thing is so evil - it is destroying mankind - physically and mentally.

I won't even mention the elephant in the middle of the room - American racism. Many of our young people are mentally shocked at the reality of war - but I can't imagine having to listen to these young people as they try to return to normalcy after returning home. . .and hope to help them - after listening to them tell you about killing people who 'looked like you'. This is a very complex human problem - and such a tragedy. I hope that we get more help for those who are returning from the war as well as those who help the returnees who have emotional/mental problems. I can't imagine what Fort Hood is experiencing now. We were so depressed when we lost one crew. Unbelievable.

Submitted by skyspy on Fri, 11/06/2009 - 7:26pm.

Davids mom you and all of your race baiting comments are the elephant in the room.

Yet another convert to radical rabid islam or muslim religion commits violence for no apparent reason. He should have done us all a favor and just killed himself.

Anyone white, red, brown or black can convert to this violent rabid terrorist promoting religion.
Get over it. Americans are not racist as a whole. People like you and rev.WRONG /jessie/and al are the only racists left in America. So please continue with your poor me "y'all are racist" crap.......but you are crying alone.

Glad to see that no matter how senseless an act of violence directed at Americans that kills Americans can be, someone out there has no problem jumping right on to the Blame America bandwagon and the "race card." Can Rev. Wright be far behind? This is right up his alley.

The 900lb elephant in the room isn't some racism BS. It's the fact that this insane piece of human trash had already been on the radar as being a potentially serious problem and wasn't dealt with before he had an opportunity to kill. Not only that, but he was even recently promoted.

Racism on the part of deployed American soldiers? MY FAT ASS! Men and women in uniform, especially those deployed to an area where the possibility of their involvement in a two way rifle range, are too dependent upon one another to allow such trivial and dangerous sentiments to take hold. Pure unadulterated hyperbole on your part. The elephant in the middle of the room is your overinflated ego.

It seems your relevance on this blog may surpass my friend Bonkers in insignificance.

Submitted by Davids mom on Tue, 11/10/2009 - 4:26pm.

Never meant to imply racism in the military - but racism in American society does exist. The military since Truman's time - has been a salvation to marginalized citizens. Watching today's ceremony - all the world saw the 'real' America - all genders, races, colors, and probably religions together honoring their fallen brethren. If calling me a racist soothes you - be my guest.

I wasn't a cook in the military...wasn't Filipino.

One called "spoon" are those who one can't trust with a knife or a fork!

Man, did you see the brass at Fort Hood today? Obama will go to the funerals! Maybe Bush.
There will be 25 MPs in that hall for at least a month!
Mirrors under the cars---dogs sniffing---etc., just like the cops 25 cars worth, heading for a bank that was robbed.
Making sure they don't come back today!

Ain't I mean? Truthful, but mean.

Would be 'Ain't I the world's biggest a$$?" I for one doubt if you ever served in any military service. Anyone I have ever known who served would have more respect. You are a sorry excuse for a human being--and by the way my-- Italian brother-in-law (of course you would refer to him as a Spic) would be surprised to learn that in reality he was really Filipino, since he served as a cook in the military for thirty years. Go watch the news--you know, the channel you watch to get your jollies because the girls wear tight short skirts--be careful the wifey poo may be watching and send you to bed without dessert.

I served---you didn't.

Show more respect for what? ( or who?) Italians aren't spics!
My reference to cooks was many, many years ago!

butt. As for your serving, we have only your word for that. Was it in the Continental Army? Civil War? Were you with Teddy's Rough Riders? Your reference was rude and crude regardless if it was many, many years ago. I have nothing to be guilty about--you need to look at yourself. You really do need some kind of help. Most of your blogs make no sense, you are insensitive to everything and everybody. If you are trying to be provocative, you miss the mark by a mile. If you consider the tripe you post as humor or even satire you are really one sick puppy.

Other's blogs making NO sense must be only to you. It is just that some of us know nothing about the past except what pleased us!

Following are the proud wars the US has determined to be important--not including banana republic takeovers and coups.

WARS (ours) (You find mine)

Our Freedom War--George Washington asked for 88 battalions to fight the Brits but the states sent far less than that, he won anyway.

War Of 1812--Generals wanted more troops to attack Brits in Canada, more were OK'd but no one knew how to get them there. A draw!

Mexican-American War--General Zack Taylor had 700 troops at the start. President Polk got him 50,000 volunteers and he won and was elected President!

Civil War--General McClellan was afraid of losing aso he sit still. President Lincoln as nice a fellow as he was, fired him. After a few more tardy generals, he chose Grant who took a big swig and lit out.

Spanish-American War--(never in Spain) General Miles wanted to have only the 80,000 he had, didn't know how to operate with more. The public raised funds and forced more onto him. I guess they won? Didn't go far enough into the Islands and South America in my opinion!

WW1--No question as to how many needed--all we had. We got 4.5 million there in 1918. Those darn Huns again. Had one relative who was mustard gassed and was blind rest of his life. Trendous injuries.

WW2--Surely I don't need to say anything here?

Korean War (Police action) 60,000 tombstones worth!
It started as two countries and ended as two countries, and after 60 years we still guard the border.

Viet-Nam War (was that one declared?)
We sent millions in and out---then left in a run due to poor planning.
Viet-Nam was soon one communist country--no harm done there!

Iraq War (was it declared?)
Many Generals--no progress. Killed Saddam eventually. No bad weapons there. We still got none of the oil.

Afghanistan War (Money offered by congress to protect us from towers blowups but no war declared. Now the 63rd Generl wants more troops, he just got 20K, and will want more, and will want more, and will want more. Give the Pakistanis a lot of money! Thats what we did in Iraq to the enemy (half of the enemy to fight the other half are on our payroll. Sunnis. No Al Quida involved.

Say it like it is for decent progress with dupes.

KBR does contract provison of food in Iraq and/or Afghanistan, not for the majority of military posts and bases. There you will find mostly enlisted troops in the kitchen and for the most part, slinging some pretty good hash. Oh, you probably never heard that term either, seeing asyou never heard "spoon". If you served, you must have led a sheltered tour. And you asked me what yrs I refer to--I had my first military experience beginning in 1959 and it lasted until 2001.

OPEN YOUR MIND!! Get it out of the "racial" gutter, for God's sake! Anyone that screams "God is great!", in Arabic, and then proceeds to massacre 13 fellow soldiers and wound 31 others is an Islamic terrorist-monster! He had been making numerous comments, some online, comparing the suicide bombers being the "same" as our fallen heroes that have sacrificed themselves to save other soldiers. He was investigated by the authorities for these online comments. His so-called "faith" led him to this horrendous act. I hope he suffers greatly for this because he is a murdering TRAITOR! All those families and their friends that have had their lives crushed because of this and you want to call it a "nervous breakdown"! I hope any of the people that knew this low-life and knew his views and thoughts and did NOTHING have to answer for this, as well.

You mention it every chance you get. However, you fail to mention that it comes in all colors.

"Retired Army Col. Terry Lee, who said he worked with Hasan, told Fox News that Hasan had hoped President Barack Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Lee said Hasan got into frequent arguments with others in the military who supported the wars, and had tried hard to prevent his pending deployment.

Hasan attended prayers regularly when he lived outside Washington, often in his Army uniform, said Faizul Khan, a former imam at a mosque Hasan attended in Silver Spring, Md. He said Hasan was a lifelong Muslim."
