I have come to notice that there are a great number of cars from other states here in Georgia. I have repeatedly seen the same cars week after week, month after month. A person has 30 days to change their license plates as well as their driver’s license when moving here from another state. I cannot see where it would be a problem for law enforcement to pull over a car with out of state license plates to check to see how long they have been in Georgia and if they have moved here to ticket them if they have been here for 30 days or more. There seems to be a great deal of “lost tags” or “tag applied for” driving around. Stop these vehicles to see if in fact this is the case. You may also want to check on those “dealer tags.” This might help the municipalities with their financial shortcomings by enforcing all of the above.

I sure hope Fayette County received some sort of warranty on the paving of Banks and Gingercake roads. If you ride down either one you will notice that the pavement is uneven and has already had to be somewhat patched in some places. Both seem to be shoddy jobs, and if it was my driveway I would not pay for it. The commissioners need to take a ride down these roads and see if they really are happy with what they are paying for. I would not be.

We have the research, the analysis, the solution, and the development of the vaccine for H1N1 virus. We have had the similar process every year for the annual flu vaccines. Go back in history. Those of you who can remember, we had smallpox shots in school, diphtheria shots, polio shots, German measles shots, etc. Who did all this work, and who funded these programs, and who made it available for getting these shots? It was not the private sector, or Big Pharma. It was you, the taxpayer and the federal government who did it. The next time you are questioned about a government option, remember who it is that came through when no one else did. The free-enterprise medical system did not do it unless it was funded or prodded by a government-funded program. Let those who have not fared as well as you to at least have the option to pick someone who has come through in the past.

To all Peachtree City residents in The Summit, Summer Brooke, Rockspray, Meadow Run and Timberlay: PTC Council this Thursday will consider a proposal to install a cell phone tower at the public park area next to Oak Grove School, along with three other locations in town. This request should be voted NO, NO, NO up front, due to proximity to our homes and school and recreation area. Contact City Council and mayor (email council@peachtree-city.org) before this 7 p.m. meeting or speak up at the meeting to voice your resounding displeasure with this proposal.

My husband was recently selected for Fayette County jury duty. As any good tax paying citizen does, they show up when requested. On Monday morning, my husband arrived with 100 other Fayette County citizens. They were only there for 30 minutes when they were told to go home and not come back. Apparently there had been 27 cases on the books, 25 of which were settled the previous week and at the last minute, the other two cases were settled out of court. Now the county is going to pay out $25 per person, a total of $2,500 to the people who showed up for 30 minutes. Not only that, the people who showed up had to arrange to take time off from work, cancel vacation plans, arrange for childcare, etc. Wouldn’t it have been easier and cheaper to have had a few of the court’s employees stay and work a couple of hours overtime on Friday and call these people to tell them not to show up? What a waste of our tax dollars! I am sure this must happen on a regular basis.

Picture yourself getting your hair cut. Guys storm in with guns. Owner hysterical. Has to be removed. Hair stylists ordered to finish up and pack up their tools and are never to return. What a day at a local Peachtree City hair salon. The owner apparently failed to pay her taxes and all the employees have to scramble to find employment with no notice. It’s not like the owner had no warning of this happening. To put all those employees and clients in that situation is just terrible.

On the subject of litter it is very sad that the city must partially depend on good samaritans to clean up the litter on and around our streets. While driving on Cascade Road in Atlanta the other day I noticed signs which said $500 fine for littering. Would someone please explain to me why we don’t have the backbone to install these type signs on our roads? Is it that we don’t want to upset parents of spoiled young punks who have no respect for anything or anyone? You slap a 17-year-old with a $500 fine and I guarantee you he will think long and hard before he throws that Taco Bell bag out the window next time. The Keep PTC Beautiful signs should be crushed and melted at the next PTC Idealist gathering and replaced by the aforementioned.

What has the procrastination of golf cart tunnel connection paths got to do with procrastination of cart path connections to a 2-year-old cart bridge over the railroad tracks? For two years that tunnel has been in place, and for two years, golf cart drivers have had to drive south to the Kelly Drive tunnel, just to get to the Post Office, The Avenue, or Huddleston Road. Now the mayor is saying that they are waiting for “right-of-way” approval. Could this not have been completed two years ago? PTC City Council and mayor get a five-star rating as procrastination pros.

Regarding posting the salaries of county office personnel and county school principals, the latter can be found at http://open.ga.gov.

It’s great that the three from Fayette made it to the “Price is Right,” but someone needs to tell the company that printed the t-shirts the apostrophe in “y’all” comes AFTER the Y, NOT the A! Not real good advertising there, “J-Max.”

To the girl walking on the cart path bridge beside her friend: I’m sorry that I ran over you on my bike, but I said, “To your left,” and you chose to ignore me. I hope you’re OK.

Please tell me that’s not a rubber chicken strapped to the front of the fire truck on Paschall Road in Peachtree City. What’s wrong with a flag, 9/11 banner or anything else that represents what you do for a living? I was a firefighter for many years at a much larger department. If my house is on fire or I’m involved in an accident, I don’t want a rubber chicken to be the first representation of the help I’m about to receive.

The doctors and nurses at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, fifth floor, west wing, rock! They made a horrible week for our family bearable. They cared for our loved one with professionalism, dedication and great respect. They cared for our family with patience and concern. No words can express our appreciation enough.

As a McIntosh teacher, I am so grateful for the work of our PTSO. They provide a host of volunteers at the school. In addition, their financial support has been tremendous. They provide money for many classroom supplies and other essentials that would not be funded otherwise. I cannot say enough about the tireless work of these people. Thanks, McIntosh PTSO.

To the MHS parent complaining about PTO dues and all of the things he/she has to pay for that his/her child does not participate in, I ask you: Why do I have to pay for YOUR child’s public school education in addition to my children’s private school tuition, for which I am paying through the nose? Why does my brother, who is single and has no children, have to pay for YOUR child to go to school? Ever think of all of the people paying for things your child does? Wake up! The system needs to be fixed, but at least you’re actually getting something for your money.

I am 13 years old and have lived in PTC for four years. I moved here from a nice area of New York, but it was nothing in comparison to beauty that I found in PTC. I loved how everything was so green and wooded and enjoy watching the variety of animals and birds that live in these wooded areas. PTC was not congested and over-commercialized when we moved here. In the short four years I have been here, I have seen trees knocked down and farm lands plowed to make way for more homes, more stores and more roads. While it is nice to have convenient shopping, I think that we have enough already. I think that instead of building more stores we should try to fill the ones that are currently empty and leave our trees alone so we can all continue to enjoy their beauty. Don’t let PTC turn into just another congested and over-commercialized city. Help save the natural beauty and keep PTC special. Thank you.

I wish PTC would not allow outdoor burning. It does nothing but pollute the air and stink up the whole neighborhood. Why can’t the citizens just take their yard waste to the recycling center and be a good neighbor?

To all of you that drop your children at Rising Starr Middle School or Starr’s Mill High School in the morning and “cut the line” by short-cutting through Peeples Elementary: If you think that all of us that sit in the proper line and follow the proper procedure do not see what you are doing or aren’t as smart as you are in figuring out the easy way, you are wrong. We see the lack of character you display to us and more importantly to your children. You obviously believe that your time is more important than ours, that you don’t need to follow the rules and that if you don’t plan to get out the door on time, by all means cut right ahead and leave the people that do sitting there holding the bag as you blast by. I am astonished by the lack of courtesy you show and notice the same people doing this day in and day out. As frustrating as it is to see high school students do this (white H1 Hummer with your Panther player number sticker on the back), I am continually astonished by the parents with their Ga. Tech license plates and other identifiable cars with lack of common courtesy you display.

One has to wonder how much the oversight of not including the $49 street light fee on property tax bills cost the taxpayers of Fayette County in needless re-printing and mailing cost. At 44 cents for postage plus printing and handling, it had to be at least, $150,000? $200,000? More? How about a little more responsibility with the money you’re handling and throw in a little quality control before you print the whole lot and mail it the first time. Here’s a suggestion: next time (and for the sake of transparency in government), how about including in the letter stating the reason for having to send a “corrected” notice how much it cost the county to send that “corrected” notice along with the name of the person who should have caught the mistake the first time around. Maybe if someone knew their name would be publicly associated with the error, more care would be used in handling OUR money.

I love soda crackers and I have been known to eat a bowl of chili with some chopped green onion and cheese sprinkled on top, and with egg and buttermilk corn bread baked in a skillet. Crumble a few crackers in for the salt. I do like Navy beans however, not those red bullets.
Also leave out the Indonesian spices and use ground chuck and vidalia onions. Not just any old "hot" chili!

Men's Age as Determined by a Trip to Home Depot

You are in the middle of some kind of project around the house-mowing the lawn, putting in a new fence, painting the living room, or whatever. You are hot and sweaty, covered in dirt or paint. You have your old work clothes on. You know the outfit - shorts with the hole in the crotch, old T-shirt with a stain from who knows what, and an old pair of tennis shoes.
Right in the middle of this great home improvement project you realize you need to run to Home Depot to get something to help complete the job.

Depending on your age you might do the following:
In your 20's:
Stop what you are doing. Shave, take a shower, blow dry your hair, brush your teeth, floss, and put on clean clothes. Check yourself in the mirror and flex. Add a dab of your favourite cologne because you never know, you just might meet some hot chick while standing in the checkout lane. And you went to school with the pretty girl running the register.

In your 30's:
Stop what you are doing, put on clean shorts and shirt. Change shoes. You married the hot chick so no need for much else. Wash your hands and comb your hair. Check yourself in the mirror. Still got it. Add a shot of your favourite cologne to cover the smell. The cute girl running the register is the kid sister to someone you went to school with.

In your 40's:
Stop what you are doing. Put on a sweatshirt that is long enough to cover the hole in the crotch of your shorts. Put on different shoes and a hat. Wash your hands. Your bottle of Brute Cologne is almost empty so you don't want to waste any of it on a trip to Home Depot. Check yourself in the mirror and do more sucking in than flexing. The spicy young thing running the register is your daughter's age and you feel weird thinking she is spicy.

In your 50's:
Stop what you are doing. Put a hat on, wipe the dirt off your hands onto your shirt. Change shoes because you don't want to get dog doo-doo in your new sports car. Check yourself in the mirror and you swear not to wear that shirt anymore because it makes you look fat. The Cutie running the register smiles when she sees you coming and you think you still have it. Then you remember the hat you have on is from Buddy's Bait & Beer Bar and it says, 'I Got Worms .'

In your 60's:
Stop what you are doing. No need for a hat anymore. Hose the dog doo-doo off your shoes. The mirror was shattered when you were in your 50's. You hope you have underwear on so nothing hangs out the hole in your pants. The girl running the register may be cute, but you don't have your glasses on so you are not sure.

In your 70's:
Stop what you are doing. Wait to go to Home Depot until the drug store has your prescriptions ready, too. Don't even notice the dog doo-doo on your shoes. The young thing at the register smiles at you because you remind her of her grandfather.

In your 80's:
Stop what you are doing. Start again. Then stop again. Now you remember you needed to go to Home Depot. Go to Wal-Mart instead and wander around trying to think what it is you are looking for. Fart out loud and you think someone called out your name. You went to school with the old lady who greeted you at the front door.

In your 90's & beyond:
What's a home deep hoe? Something for my garden? Where am I? Who am I? Why am I reading this? Did I send it? Did you? Who farted?

What usually happens to me is:

Hmmm...I could have sworn we had a chalk line thingy around here somewhere. Spend an hour looking for the phantom chalk thingy - looking in the kitchen junk drawer, the tool box, and finally out to the shed. During the search you realize that the shed needs to be cleaned out so you get started on that. While tackling the unscheduled shed cleaning you come across some disgusting rat droppings so decide to go to Lowe's for some rat bait. When you get home you realize that you never did have a chalk line thingy and you just left Lowe's without one.

Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a West Virginian?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

The answer can be found by posing the following question:

#You're walking down a
deserted street with your wife
and two small children.

Suddenly, an Islamic
Terrorist with a huge knife
comes around the corner,
locks eyes with you,
screams obscenities, praises
Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you.

You are carrying a

You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.
What

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him
that would inspire
him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club
and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about
this situation?
Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind
of message does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he'd be
happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would
he be content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold
on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call
9-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day
and make this happier, healthier street that
would discourage such behavior..
This is all so confusing!
I need to debate this with some friends
for few days and try to come to a consensus.

I'd shoot him. But first I'd have to ponder whether my actions might violate some aspect of the Geneva Conventions and, of course, I'd have to ask him to wait a few minutes to give me time to call my ACLU lawyer and consider any possible hate crime implications. Just a few more minutes for me to find the key to the child safety trigger lock. Then I'd definitely shoot him.

Having said that, and after pondering the question in depth, I must say it seems your initial premise may be flawed. If you were a liberal democrat, how could you ever have gotten to be an expert marksman?

Well Jeff, I figure since he praised God, the ACLU would say heck yeah, shoot him. I agree about the marksman thingy, but without a liberal Dem, the joke wouldn't be funny. Sometimes you just have to work with what ya got.

1 would be that we should call the focused shooter a Conservative instead of a Republican, since I'm afraid Repubs have lost their pubes.

And as you already know, 2 bangs for the Repub/Conserv. Tap. Tap. Dead animal right there. Head shots would be best.

is he running away from all the autos on the road or is he trying to escape the hatchet!! Sure looks determined. Seeing him reminds me of a little song we learned at Thansgiving when I was in grade school so many, many years ago. Have not heard it in years--kids don't sing those kinds of songs now I guess--it would be too traumatic. Never even thought of the what the words meant until I was a grown-up.
I remember us performing it on stage with hand motions. Here it is.

Thanksgiving Day is coming, so Mr. Turkey said,
'Very careful I must be or I will lose my head.'
Zip! (Here went the hand motion across the throat.)
The pumpkin heard the turkey 'I'm frightened too oh, my,
They'll mix me up with sugar and spice and I'll be a pumpkin pie!'
(Here we made motions like we were stirring ingredients)

Now that I see it again I understand why it disappeared!!

Anyway, keep Tom trotting--he brings a smile to the face.

Well here is the answer. The Miller Group was hired by Fayette County to do the grinding and the paving. However, they have done such a poor job that the county road crew is repaving. I don't know that the county will receive any refund but I am willing to bet that they don't. Look at it this way; there are road crew workers with a bit more job security and a company (The Miller Group) whose employees have much less job security. Again, a shining example of tax dollars well spent. (That was sarcasm, for those that wonder)

I remember when I was teaching my daughter to drive. We were traveling on Willow Bend and came up behind some one on a bicycle. Being a new driver she slowed down and rode behind the cyclist until there was no car in sight before she’d pass. The cyclist yelled and cussed us as we went by. I wanted to stop but didn’t as I did have my daughter with me. Share the road my foot.

Submitted by AtHomeGym on Wed, 11/04/2009 - 7:58pm.

No idea of the details here, but would guess that the pedestrian stepped out in front of the cyclist. I walk at Lake Horton 2 or 3 times a week and cyclists never say squat when they're passing. "Passing On Your Left" is not too hard to say and would be appreciated by those of us who walk and don't have such sensitive hearing as to hear you approaching. Or a little horn works too.

Submitted by Bonkers on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 5:32am.

Rarely see them there!
They ride the highway. Maybe a kid occasionally on the paths.
It takes stupidity however to not warn walkers with a honker or slow down one.

Cyclist's picture
Submitted by Cyclist on Wed, 11/04/2009 - 8:30pm.

Honestly, I much rather ride on the street than ride on multiple use paths. At least there are uniform rules to follow on the road. On these paths you just don't know what to expect. There are people out walking their dogs on long leashes or people walking down the middle of the path either by themselves or in groups, some of which could be wearing earphones and can't hear. Now, add the cyclist who is not mature enough to anticipate the actions of pedestrians or even provides a warning that he or she is approaching from behind. It's just a no-win situation.

I know some of the concerned here have been wishing Love well and seeking updates. Here are some issues she faces that we can all include in our thoughts and prayers. Please take in consideration that this is being passed on by a guy. You know how we are with medical detail issues.

1. Breast cancer procedure a success. No chemo required but 6 weeks radiation.

2. The issue that lead to the discovery of her cancer is needing to be addressed asap. The complication being that her blood platelet count is very low.

3. Because of these levels they can't put her to sleep for the surgery.

4. Needless to say Love has been 'through it' and naturally the stress is taking toll. Perhaps we could start an encouragement blog for Love.

Well, that is the short of it.
