The Prince of Peace Praise Band deserves our appreciation and the benefit of the doubt with respect to the discussion regarding Christian worship music below. I think I will attend to learn something. What I see in the picture is encouraging--- an acoustic guitar ! Thank you for your time and talents.

Isn't there a Prince Of Peace in PTC, also?

Purpose of "Praise" ?

Why does one go to Church? What does one expect?

Some want entertainment. Some want inspiration.

I attend church to confess my sins, to praise God and to receive instruction, guidance, enlightenment and inspiration from my cleric and congregation alike and, most importantly, hopefully I find a way to serve God. I respect differing opinions but I believe that contemporary Christian worship services present a very dangerious "slippery slope" that leads to ponder ourselves rather our Lord. That is my opinion regarding the risk. Serving God is not easy. It is joyful but not easy. The notion that you may "come in, be entertained, no strings attached" is not what God had in mind.

Everything in the worship service should be and do nothing other than to glorify God. No, I do not believe that the scriptures contemplated all forms of music being used today by "churches". The snycopated rock beat, and indeed "rock and roll" music itself are antithetical to the Bible. The syncopated rock beat has been proven conclusively to be harmful to plants and animals in clinical studies. If the fragility of musical selection and presentation is the narrow basis for why people do or do not attend a praticular "church", I would consider that a shallow outreach. That is of course my opinion alone and I respect your right to worship or not to worship at all. Hopefully our actions demonstrate than anything else who we are.

What an awesome God that he/she provided each of us a way to worship!

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I agree that our actions demonstrate our understanding of 'God'. Have a great day!

I agree with your general sentiment. I see so much ado about nothing between traditionalistic worshippers and contemporaristic worshippers. I do not believe the God cares about the medium as much as what is in the heart while worshipping. Traditionalistic (read, Hymnal) worshippers forget that hymnals were a progression as well--all the way back to the Gregorian chant. Also some hymnals took the music and structure from contemporary (at the time) secular songs such as drinking ditties.

So many churches in Fayette County 'praise' in varied ways! Everyone has a choice to celebrate the 'word' as they choose. A 25-year celebration is a testament to an active church family. Congratulations!!

Does God demand constant "praise" from billions every day--why would He need that? A rock band bought and paid for even! Even some of that horrendous shouting and screaming and squirming by evil people.

Seems that he wants one to be fit to be of assistance to others and feel assured.

25 years in a church means little, I think. To whom would it have a meaning or reason? Most of them now weren't there at the beginning! There are hundreds of thousands of "churches" and a lot more human churches that are not buildings!

Isn't it great that you're not forced to attend a service that you will not like? Each of us has the right to celebrate in our own way. For that I'm grateful - and I don't question anyone's right to disagree with how I worship or express joy. Have a great day! 'Church' is in the heart of the attendee - we agree there! I'm pleased that this congregation invites those who wish to join them. Sharing joy is a healing activity! Smiling

With the sound, musicality, vocals, and spiritual worship leadership this band brings into the Prince of Peace worship service, it is simply "the best" praise band/team there is. (No offense to all the other wonderful praise band/teams that honor God every Sunday in churches everywhere.) With song after song, people always comment that the Prince of Peace Praise Band "sounds better" even than the original professional artists. Worship at Prince of Peace is lively, spiritual, multi-cultural, and dynamic with this Praise Band leading the way. If "contemporary worship" is what you're looking for, then Prince of Peace is THE PLACE to worship and praise! Every Sunday at 9:15! www.princeofpeacefayette.com And it's ALL right here in Fayetteville!

Waht on earth is a "Praise Band?"

Did Jesus have one made up of flutes?

Arer all these dudes and dudesses in the band certified serious Christians? Or just doing it for the practice? Do they get any money? Does the band leader?
I don't get it!

Good question ... Believers? Church members? Paid? Answer: Every one of these Praise Band members and their families are believers, active church members, and none are paid. These very same people (in the band) also take care of our elderly, lead our youth programs and classes, teach Christian music to our youth, give their offerings generously, teach adult Sunday School classes, and make personal sacrifices to provide this ministry. What they do on Sunday mornings is to worship God. With their worship they invite the congregation to worship along with them. And again, none is paid. As pastor, I help gather them for rehearsal, lead them in their ministry, and coordinate the music with the theme of the Scripture for the coming Sunday. I'm glad you asked. I might add that paid church musicians can be just as much believers, worshippers, and members. It depends on the situation. (signed) Pastor Justin Kollmeyer Smiling

Amen to Bonkers' comments on the "Praise Bands". For an excellent exposition on why (in many instances) some of these musical presentations are only remotely interested in sincere, scriptural worship, read "Why I Left the Contemporary Christian Movement" by Dan Lucarini. Then, google syncopated rock beat and research what it does physiologically to the human body. This music is only nominally concerned with worship of the Risen Lord and more centrally with self-aggrandizement of both the musicians and the congregants. (Note for those that are specious readers: I did not say ALL but SOME.)

I don't quite go as far as you with this. I don't care if some church likes rock music and a big "show." They might as well be doing that as something else.

I am also aware that many of these "bands" are paid money and many don't even belong to the church. It is extremely difficult to put together a decent band and then practice 2-3 days a week for Sunday without paying many.

Many of these "core" bands make their living playing wherever they can get a gig--bars, picnics, churches---name it. I just don't See where that fits Christianity and their "worship."

But, I must say that some church choirs bore the devil out of me! Even those feature those female soloists who think they are Maria Callas.
I would rather hear the preacher for an hour than all that.

They just never have learned that one can't live against their own rules as they wish--visit church once a week or more and their soul saving is assured! I also detest their excuse: No one is perfect!

That might be true---but every week?

come on, cogito, it's the music that makes most of these church services tolerable.

The wonderful aspect of American culture is that we have the right under the Constitution to worship as we please. The Bible is a guide to most Christians. With all respect to Dan Lucarini - I like how some of the authors in the Bible instruct us to worship.

Ps 150:5
Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

II Sam 6:5
And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

With all those instruments - I bet the worship service 'rocked'!!

Submitted by Bonkers on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 1:08pm.

So it "rocked" as you say.
Weren't most of those dudes uncivil people? David even had a woman he wanted husband killed!

How big was the "house of David?"

Submitted by Davids mom on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 1:45pm.

The 'God' that I love has room in his 'house' for us all if we simply follow those basic principles found in the Ten Commandments. If we 'sin' - that sin is punished so long as the action considered 'sin' is repeated. Paul, David, etc., had challenges, and didn't always meet them in a 'sinless' manner - but they learned and served. That's a great lesson for us all. We don't have to be perfect, but we do need to learn from our mistakes and live a principled life. Bonkers, I wish you 'joy' today - it's a beautiful day! Enjoy!

You have an open invitation to come to my church home and witness for yourself.

It would be helpful if you would answer the simple questions I asked.

I do apologize for the spelling--forgot spell check, I type too fast sometimes, but that is no excuse.

Now, may I also ask what is a "church home?" I thought a church was a congregation or a group of like people--not a building or home as you say. Saint Paul's "church" was a bunch of people, mostly in Turkey.

I am afraid of most "church homes" these days--they vary so radically, can't all be right. We have ours with family mostly. I recommend it since it is unlikely that hundreds of people in a building will all guide you straight and narrow. Socials should be elsewhere.
