Atlanta Campaign Ads

Hmmmm, wonder what the message is from those last minute ads for Atlanta mayor? They've played for the last week or so and all during the news tonight.

Let's see....Kasim Reed's ad says to vote for "Democrat" Kasim Reed rather than "Republican" Mary Norwood. Never mind the fact that Norwood happens to not be a Republican. She says she attended a Republican convention years ago and didn't like it. Then she names every recent Democratic presidential candidate that she has voted for. Could it be that the white candidate is cast as the Republican (a lie) and the black candidate as a Democrat for any particular reason?

And then there's Lisa Border's homey chat of women around the kitchen that really hits the heart. These poor ladies are swapping tales of horrible crimes that they have heard about. In order to fix the crime problem they opine on who they need. Then the last genius says "we need a Democrat....". Uhhh, pardon me but every single Atlanta mayor since 1942 has been a Democrat. There is one source that says the last Republican mayor in Atlanta was the famous Nedom Angier from 1877-1879, although someone since then probably was and just not listed.

Yeah, friends of Lisa, a Democrat would surely solve that crime problem. I know what you mean, maybe the NEXT Democrat would solve it. Shows you what they think of the minds of the voters they target doesn't it??? Or then again, is "Democrat" in that commercial just a code word for another demographic? Hmmmm....

Yeah, hubby and I just laughed when we saw that one. We wondered who they thought got Atlanta into the mess they're in now. We know it wasn't a Republican. I guess they think there is no such thing as a white Dem.

. .the number of 'black' residents who worked hard on the Norwood campaign. There was a 'white' representative of the Watt's community in Los Angeles for decades. (Kenny Hahn) I guess Atlanta 'may' elect a person who they think will listen to their needs and respond to their concerns - regardless of color. We'll see. There were 'whites' who supported a 'black' mayor in Los Angeles for decades. Americans are not all 'racists'. . .as the last Presidential election indicated. The 'change' that the world was expecting from America is here . .45 of the 50 states are 'issue' oriented. Maybe the other '5' will catch up.

You are right about Tom Bradley. Five terms as mayor. He had a real knack to support community development and social issues but he also understood that businesses created jobs which communities needed. "Balanced" is the right word to describe his agenda. I was sadden when he passed.
