A Peachtree City man remained in jail Tuesday, one week after he was arrested for violently assaulting his wife the evening of Oct. 19. Matthew Smollar, 30, is accused of attempting to kill his wife Amber by suffocating her at their home on Grapevine Curve in Rockspray subdivision, according to arrest warrants filed in the case. The warrants claim that Smollar deprived his wife of oxygen by putting his hands over her mouth and nose as he held her down on the floor. Smollar is also accused of striking his wife in the head, face and body with a shoe and also using an open hand to strike her right cheek, right jaw line, right wrist, right forearm and right shoulder. Police have declined to release details about what occurred between the Smollars immediately prior to the assault. Matthew Smollar remained in jail Friday afternoon after Fayette County Magistrate James A. White sent $167,000 bond. Smollar is charged with aggravated assault, battery and false imprisonment. login to post comments |
