A Peachtree City man remains in jail after he was arrested Tuesday for violently assaulting his wife late Monday night. Matthew Smollar, 30, is accused of attempting to kill his wife Amber by suffocating her while he held her down on the floor of their home on Grapevine Curve, according to arrest warrants filed in the case. The warrants claim that Smollar deprived his wife of oxygen by putting his hands over her mouth and nose during the altercation. Smollar is also accused of striking his wife in the head, face and body with a shoe and also her right cheek, right jaw line, right wrist, right forearm and right shoulder with an open hand. It is not immediately known what occurred in the moments leading up to the assault, which occurred on Smollar's 30th birthday between midnight and 12:30 a.m. Matthew Smollar remained in jail Friday afternoon after Fayette County Magistrate James A. White sent $167,000 bond. Smollar is charged with aggravated assault, battery and false imprisonment. login to post comments |
