Smoller, Matthew_wife assault arrest

A Peachtree City man remains in jail after he was arrested Tuesday for violently assaulting his wife late Monday night.

Matthew Smollar, 30, is accused of attempting to kill his wife Amber by suffocating her while he held her down on the floor of their home on Grapevine Curve, according to arrest warrants filed in the case. The warrants claim that Smollar deprived his wife of oxygen by putting his hands over her mouth and nose during the altercation.

Smollar is also accused of striking his wife in the head, face and body with a shoe and also her right cheek, right jaw line, right wrist, right forearm and right shoulder with an open hand.

It is not immediately known what occurred in the moments leading up to the assault, which occurred on Smollar's 30th birthday between midnight and 12:30 a.m.

Matthew Smollar remained in jail Friday afternoon after Fayette County Magistrate James A. White sent $167,000 bond. Smollar is charged with aggravated assault, battery and false imprisonment.

I have known his wife nearly my whole life, she is not crazy, she is a very loving and caring woman and I pray for her everyday. I also pray that Matthew repents of what he has done and I know that he will receive the punishment he deserves.

Its a tragic shame that while leading that church in worship, he didn't learn the commandment - thy shall not kill

That has to be a joke. Since he likes violence let's hope he gets a long prison term. He will be in his comfort zone. Plenty of violence and sex where he is going.

I have known his wife since she was young. I do not agree with you about her being crazy. What I think is that he is crazy. Now I do believe that it takes two. But no one deserves what she got done to her. Now I do believe that some ministers are fakes and they fool everyone that they come in contact with. They come to church and put on a happy face and live like the devil until it is church time again. You really do not know anyone until you go to their homes and watch how they are outside of the church. I hope he gets what's coming to him. I do want him to repent for what he has done. God still loves him no matter what.

how about you try and get to know the wife before you judge? Just because they go to your church doesn't mean anything. Looks like church isn't good enough for you because obviously you haven't learned not to talk about other people.

Divorce is ok (kind of) beating up your wife (with a shoe) not ok. I don't care how crazy she is.

I used to date this guy. That's the scary part. I knew there was something off when we dated, but I had NO idea he was this insane. I just praise the Lord it wasn't me he hurt and I pray for his wife.

How can any human being do this kind of damage to a person. All I have to say is that he must be filled with the devil. I think he is one sick piece of work. We all need to protect our children from these kind of people. He is the scum of the scum. Let's see justice prevail!!!!!!!!

This man is sick! He deserves to be locked up in a prison cell! How could someone even have the heart to hurt the one they love? I'd love to smack the smirk off of his face as well.

This man is sick?? Lock him up in prison. If he is sick should we not treat him. And then you said you wanted to assult him. It sounds like you are sick also and should be treated. Or put in the same jail cell with him as you suggested.
