On behalf of our family, I would like to thank the many friends and neighbors who sent cards, food, flowers and prayers during this time of grief for our son, Shawn.

We appreciate everyone in our community who took time out of their day to line the streets holding flags welcoming Shawn home.

To the Fayette County and Peachtree City Police, Sheriff, Fire and EMS departments, the Patriot Guard, Falcon Field Airport, Mowell Funeral Home and C.J. Mowell, St. Matthew’s Catholic Parish and Father Victor Galier: thank you for the honor you displayed for our son and our family. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Thanks to Chick-fil-A Dwarf House for the tribute you have shown our son as well as other injured and fallen soldiers. For the many signs and flags displayed in honor of our son throughout our community: your support means a great deal to us, and we are blessed to live in such a warm and caring community. Thank you all, for everything.

I am so thankful I was able to stand with my Flag in Fayetteville when SFC McCloskey passed by. It was very emotional and wonderful to see so many people standing for this soldier.

God bless all of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

The time honored words "Thank you for your service" are, at times such as this, woefully inadequate. Perhaps the best that I can offer are the words of a prayer that should be familiar to you;

For food, for raiment,
For life, for oportunity,
For friendship and fellowship,
We thank thee O Lord.

Words and deeds can never express how much we appreciate the sacrifices your family and son have made for all of us. Please know that you remain in the prayers and thoughts of many. May you have some semblance of peace in the days to come. Thank you again.

Tears well in my eyes and pride swells in my throat. I am at a loss for the right words to express the depth of my sympathy and gratitude for your son.

That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet."
