David Craig for councilFri, 10/09/2009 - 3:10pm
By: John Munford
He may have been a surprise candidate when he qualified to run for Post 1 on the Peachtree City Council, but David Craig has apparently been giving it some serious thought. Craig, a manager in engine maintenance at Delta Air Lines, is taking the stance that the city should shun growing its boundaries by nixing future annexations. Craig, 45, also opposes the rezoning of industrial land to accommodate residential projects, as proposed in one instance this year by Pathway Communities as it seeks an upscale subdivision just north of Falcon Field. In correspondence with The Citizen, Craig said he wants to avoid future millage rate increases in part by limiting the expansion of government. He also said he wants to make sure police and fire salaries are competitive while also continuing with the cart path rejuvenation projects in conjunction with limited cart path expansions. Craig said he would also like the city to better utilize city assets such as the Kedron Fieldhouse, sports fields, the amphitheater and Falcon Field. Craig also opposes the privatization of city owned facilities because the city should require its own management to come up with unique solutions to problems. Craig is running for the Post 1 seat which will be limited to a two-year term as that is what remains after former Post 1 councilman had to resign earlier this year to run for mayor. As for handling the city budget, Craig has noted that he has 14 years developing and managing budgets for Delta ranging from $250 to $500 million. And, like Peachtree City this year, Delta in the past has had to make difficult fiscal decisions to insure its financial stability, Craig has said. login to post comments |
