The benefits of following The Citizen Sports on Twitter

The most often heard complaint about Twitter, a “real time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices”, is that there is no reason that people should care about the minutiae of other people’s lives. In talking with people about the web site/service, some of the things this reporter has heard range from “Why do I care what you had for breakfast?” to “Nobody’s life is all that interesting anyway?” I agree, but Twitter has a purpose and, if used properly, can provide some good information in the most timely fashion possible.

The Citizen Sports is on Twitter (www.twitter.com/citizensport) and every Friday night as football scores and updates come pouring in, the sports reporter posts them on Twitter. If you follow citizensport and get updates e-mailed or texted to, or you visit a Twitter app on your smart phone, you get these updates as they are posted. You can follow as many games as the scores are coming in from. If you don’t get the “tweets” forwarded, you can still see them in a box at the top of the page (www.thecitizensports.com) and watch them as they come in or check back in every now and then for updates.

The Citizen is planning on using Twitter for more than just football. Photos of super fans can be taken and posted, our reporter can answer questions while he is out at the games, and as the playoffs for volleyball and softball start, the updates for those sports will be posted as well. The hope is to “tweet” for the entire high school athletic season and we’d like as many followers as possible.

Visit www.twitter.com, set up an account and follow us at www.twitter.com/citizensport. You don’t have to “tweet” anything yourself. After all, none of us really care what you had for breakfast.

Michael Boylan, our sports editor, is out sick and we can't get a reporter to the game tonight. Can anyone send me an email with the details of each score from both teams (i.e. when they scored, run or pass, who scored, et cetera). Of course any other pertinent observations would be nice too.

I am hopeful my PTC meeting will end swiftly and I can catch the 2nd half... but this is government I'm talking about Eye-wink

Anyone interested please hit me up via email at jmunford@thecitizen.com.

THANKS!!!

We have had several responses already so thanks to those of you who offered to pitch in!

Looks like we've got it covered now. Again many thanks to all. Smiling

The Citizen still covers sports?

What about Kevin Wandra? Oh wait, you guys canned him.

How about just checking the Fayette County News? They'll probably have a reporter there.
