Obama Ambassador to the Olympics

S. Lindsey's picture

President Obama will travel to Copenhagen to make a pitch for Chicago’s Olympic bid, White House officials have confirmed to NBC News.

He has talked to HIS General in Afghanistan exactly once in the last 2 1/2 months. His Secretary of Defense is still sitting on the report.. Obama still wants to study that issue..

The Olympics.. well that's settled he wants it to come to Chi-Town. Even though many in Illinois wants nothing to do with it..

I wonder how many times he has talked to Mayor Daily about the Olympics, but he can't seem to find the time to talk to his General leading the fight..

I guess there were some good intentions somewhere in all of this (crickets chirping) but I don't think it would have been a great idea to bring the Olympics to Chicago of all places right now. The other day an innocent child was beat to death on the streets .. I know someone will say this happens everywhere but right now this is a major issue for Chicago. I'm sure those in Chicago are not too "sad" about not having the Olympics. More than likely they are far more concerned about their schools, the safety of their children, and helloooo the economy!

Rio will have to go some to surpass the opening and closing ceremonies that China presented. It's possible that Rio’s economy is in better condition than ours. Certainly the senseless beating of a teenager didn't help the Chicago bid. Chicago still has the reputation of being the 'gangster' city of the US. (Since the '20's) That is unfortunate, because many fine people live and work in Chicago. However, I sigh with relief. We don't have the people power or finances to produce an extravaganza like the Olympics at this time. The President was in a no-win situation. He would have been criticized if had not made a pitch for Chicago - and has been criticized because he did. We'll have another opportunity! On to Rio!

Who is this 'we' and 'us' you talk about? unless you are a resident of a Chicago or Illinois or otherwise MIGHT have given financially in support of the 2016 bid, no tax dollars were spent on this or any other olympics -- certainly not federal, which the law forbids.

And dignity? LOL ... keep reaching for anything you got!

abounds, doesn't it? I'm sorry that my friends and neighbors aren't living up to your no doubt stringent intellectual standards. Perhaps you should leave us to our dearth of cranial fortitude and find more stimulating conversation elsewhere. Try, "The Huffington Post", or some other liberal blog where everyone is the smartest person in the room. I'm sure you'll fit right in.
You may think you are being clever and insightful, but you sound like yet another "Richard" with a big mouth to me.

"You don't know nuthin' 'bout me..." -- popular refrain from Jerry Springer guests.

No, you don't know me ... you don't have a clue, in fact, yet dismiss me as "an intellectual liberal elitist" only because I insist FACTS be included in this ongoing public debate over left and right, black and white, right and wrong, etc. For example, you'd probably be SHOCKED to know that I approve of the war on terror, oppose abortion and gay marriage, think Jimmy Carter is an "idiot" for saying Obama critics are all racists, don't like the idea of goverment health care, know in my heart that Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and Savior and love my mama's potato salad best. see, those are the "facts" ... and we'd all be better off if some you started dealing in some.

Do you just make up your "facts" or is that why you put the word in quotes? Find the video of Carter's statement and show me where he said "Obama critics are all racists". You've either been listening to too much propaganda or are exceedingly gullible.

I'll check back later for the posting of your source. I'm betting it's gonna be good.

BTW: I posted a link to the actual video of the interview on this site already. Seek and ye shall find. But I'm anticipating your source is going to be even better.

"dismiss" you as "an intellectual liberal elitist". If that's what you got out of my reply, then you really aren't too bright. I did, however, suggest that you are an intellectual elitist (sans the liberal part) based on the fact that you cast aspersions on this entire forum with your statements. That doesn't make you a liberal, it makes you a "Richard", or at least a reasonable approximation of one.
If that's the way you feel you have to express yourself, be prepared for someone to take umbrage and let you know. Not only that, but I expect a certain amount of forethought from a fellow conservative. We conservatives are supposed to be better than that. You will never win the hearts and minds of those people that you alienate.
As far as your insistence that you present the facts, you would have far more credibility if you were to have the facts straight before you open your big mouth. I am speaking of the fact that all of the taxpayers of this fine country just paid a share of the cost of the useless and embarrassing presidential trip to Copenhagen. That was what S. Lindsey was saying, and your twisted little ego turned it into an "I'm smarter than all you stupid people" comment. Then, you couldn't be bothered to make even the most insignificant acknowledgment of your mistake, even when your error was politely pointed out by The Wedge.
I'm all for polite and even spirited debate, but your nasty little personal attack on the entire forum doesn't enrich the conversation at all, and leads to even more acrimony. Not only that, but you compound your insensitivity by putting words in my mouth and accusing me of being removed from reality?!? You got a lot of nerve, bub!
One last thing... The fact that you and I may agree on 90% of the issues doesn't mean you aren't being a jerk.
Is there anything you have misunderstood this time, or is your grasp on the English language as tenuous as your understanding of the facts?

Please tell me who paid for the trip that President Obama took to plead Chicago's case? Was it not paid by the Federal Budget? It was/is quite a trip, with Air Force 1, his wife, and a large ADVON of security. Did the US IOC pay for the trip for his large entourage? If not, then perhaps you should not be so cavalier about charging others with stupidity.

When he elevates himself above all others in various forums and public appearances, doesn't he think other will take offense?

I mean, when you look up sleazy and corrupt politics, you get pictures of Richard Daley and Huey Long. Chicago really failed his "legacy" here.

That's the problem with these things there is no way to quantify the money spent.
Did Atlanta really turn a profit? No not according to the City's accounting office.. once you factor in all the extra city services and city improvements..and Misc expenses Atlanta did not actually see a profit..
Calgary however reported they LOST a BILLION dollars.. Go figure..
Vancover has already spent over 6 Billion and spent 96% of their reserves.. Profits no I don't think so.

...trying to fit all this into his schedule as a 72 year old POTUS when he's in bed by 10 pm? Gotta hand it to Obama, he has a ton of energy.

"On Monday, former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told the Washington Times that Obama's personal appearance (in Copenhagen) is "likely to ensure the city lands the games. I think his presence makes it almost certain that Chicago will win the bid," he added. Romney said he believes that while the president may risk some political capital, the trip is in the country's best interest."

Remember this:

"Bush's long vacations are more than a curiosity: They play into diametrically opposite arguments about this leadership style. ...they symbolize a lackadaisical approach to the world's most important day job, an impression bolstered by Bush's periodic two-hour midday exercise sessions and his disinclination to work nights or weekends....he spent a month at the ranch shortly before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, when critics assert he should have been more attentive to warning signs."

LINK

So, Obama continues to work (not vacation), while cleaning up the mess he was left with, and is promoting an American city for the upcoming Olympics which will pump much needed revenue dollars into Chicago and the surrounding region, and this is a bad thing? Where were you when Dubya was hanging out at his ranch for weeks chopping mesquite and plowing the lower 40 in Crawford as two wars were being waged, Katrina was pummeling NOLA and the Wall Street "house of cards" was about to fall? Silent as usual? Yes you were.

Oh BTW.. Vancover lost a BILLION dollars when they hosted the Olympics.. how is that a City in a State that is already both BROKE going to be able to do it.. ANSWER TAXPAYERS DOLLARS THAT WILL GO TO SEIU and the UNIONS this will be Corruption on a massive scale.. This is just another payback to the Unions and typical Chicago Politics. If Yellow Stream was anything more than a clueless partisan hack, she would know that a president is never really on vacation. Every president is on the job 24/7 anywhere in the world, whether it be Bush or Barry. Meetings, briefings, phone calls, etc. would never stop. It's not like those 5 days of paid vacation that fast food workers like Yellow Stream enjoy annually. She gets to take time away from the madness of hot grease splattering, lunch hour rushes and hairnets to finally get that upper lip waxed and maybe take a trip of a lifetime to the dog track. Sitting presidents are never away from it, whether in Crawford or Martha's Vineyard.....

The Los Angeles School District benefited from the Olympic Games in 1984. Classrooms received the computers used during the games and financial assistance. It is predicted that Chicago will gain 4 billion dollars - not bad. What Atlanta gained is still debatable. If the Olympic Committee learns from past mistakes and accomplishments of Olympics held throughout the world - Chicago should do fine financially. It will be difficult following China's opening and closing. Is there anything in this country that you feel positive about? How about having the freedom to publicly find fault with those who don’t agree with you?
