A Fayette County attorney has been arrested for stealing funds that were supposed to be held in a trust account for his clients, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Howard Geoffrey “Geoff” Slade Jr. was arrested Monday and charged with three counts of theft by taking and one count of theft by deception. Slade, a member of the Georgia Bar since 1973, has a law office in Fayetteville. According to sheriff’s detectives, the charges are for four separate incidents between 2007 and September 2009. The victims knew there was a problem with their funds when Slade made excuses about the availability of the funds when they called him for payment, officials said. Meanwhile, detectives have identified other potential victims of the scheme after executing a search warrant at Slade’s law office. Once taken into custody, Slade agreed to cooperate with investigators, sheriff’s officials said. Anyone with information about these cases is asked to contact Det. Joshua Shelton at 770-716-4777. login to post comments |
