A Fayette County attorney has been arrested for stealing funds that were supposed to be held in a trust account for his clients, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Howard Geoffrey “Geoff” Slade Jr. was arrested Monday and charged with three counts of theft by taking and one count of theft by deception.

Slade, a member of the Georgia Bar since 1973, has a law office in Fayetteville.

According to sheriff’s detectives, the charges are for four separate incidents between 2007 and September 2009. The victims knew there was a problem with their funds when Slade made excuses about the availability of the funds when they called him for payment, officials said.

Meanwhile, detectives have identified other potential victims of the scheme after executing a search warrant at Slade’s law office. Once taken into custody, Slade agreed to cooperate with investigators, sheriff’s officials said.

Anyone with information about these cases is asked to contact Det. Joshua Shelton at 770-716-4777.

I'm sure no one would ever want to need the assistance of a lawyer. We go to them when we have a problem and we put all our faith in them helping us it. I a case management statement issue that I needed help with, I went to a lawyer that ensured me that was his field of expertise. I wasted my time and money only to realize he had no idea what he was doing. Seems their main concern is how to rip us off rather than actually help.

The National Institutes of Health have announced that they will no longer be using rats for medical experimentation. In their place, they will use attorneys. They have given three reasons for this decision:
1. There are now more attorneys than there are rats.
2. The medical researchers don't become as emotionally attached to the attorneys as they did to the rats.
3. No matter how hard you try, there are some things that rats won't do.

um ..........um .............

A reporter outside of a courtroom asked a defendant clad only in a barrel: "Oh, I see your attorney lost the case!" The defendant answered, "No, we won."

lawyer was filling out a job application when he came to the question: "Have you ever been arrested?"

He answered no to the question.

The next question, intended for those who answered the preceding question with a yes, was "why?" Nevertheless, the lawyer answered it "Never got caught."

Not so in this case....
