The second phase of widening Ga. Highway 74 in Peachtree City will be funded by federal stimulus monies.

This week, Gov. Sonny Perdue certified the project so it could receive $37.03 million in stimulus funds. The project involves widening the highway from Cooper Circle southward to Ga. Highway 85 from two to four lanes.

Bids are slated to be let on the project Friday, but it is not immediately known when work is scheduled to begin.

The road widening will stretch for 3.3 miles and includes a new bridge over Flat Creek and the realignment of Padgett Road just south of Ga. Highway 85 so it can link to the traffic light.

Fayette is also slated to get other stimulus funding for transportation projects, including $2.82 million for resurfacing and maintenance on Hwy. 85 between Hwy. 74 and Ga. Highway 92. The county is also projected to get $1.1 million in funds for other road resurfacing projects.

this additional widening to C W Matthews..they were low bidder. Surprise, surprise....

Same contractor that has yet to finish the 74 stretch from Hwy 54 south to Cooper Circle.

I say if you live south of Cooper Circle, buy a pair of wings and try flying to get to where you want to go. Some with a 4-5 year warranty, since that will probably be the earliest this will get done.

IF TRUE, this should be investigated immediately. These SOB's couldn't pave a cart path.

So, ya wanna widen more of this little stretch of Hwy. 74 in PTC, eh?
How about this for kicks?

Ya see, there is this teensie little matter of the newly widened "downtown PTC connector" (aka Hwy 74 South) from Hwy 54 to Cooper Circle. There is one tiny little article of unfinished business. Seems, GADOT is having a little TIFF with their sub on shall we say "incomplete/unsatisfactory quality of workmanship" that has VERY EFFECTIVELY AGAIN delayed, stopped and halted all forward progress of the handover of the maintenance and final disposition of this (NOW) three year project to PTC.

It seems that until this little tiff is cleared up, PTC cannot mow, landscape, or properly maintain this monstrosity because, then, GA DOT won't have any EVIDENCE to prove it's case against this little subcontractor. PTC ALSO cannot put the bids out to contractors to finish the BRIDGE TO NOWHERE approaches or the PASCHALL RD. tunnel approaches.

And Sonny Perdue wants to throw fed. money at this freekin' state agency to start this ?*&^#@ additional widening?????

How long do we think it would take GA DOT to get this little item wrapped up if NCR Corp. on Hwy. 74 decided to rescind the jobs they are creating here on this little stretch of ugliness until the road is properly signed over and made to match the thousands of dollars THEY are spending on their training facility along this eyesore? NCR will not have their cart path access to their bldg. till this is done. (Oh, didn't Harry Logsdon PROMISE NCR this little extension would be done?) And none of the thousands of trainees will be staying two weeks at a time and spending money at our local hotels, restaurants and stores (can you say tax revenue????) while driving their rental golf carts around this city.

I say it's time for "tit for tat" and get businesses along Hwy 74 involved in this crap. Why haven't The Avenue, Ethan Allen, Pike's, Staples, PetSmart, Best Buy, Smoky Bones, Longhorn, NCR, Waffle House, Rite Aid, GillRoys, Pit Stop, and all the rest who are along this corridor formed an alliance to force this mess to be finished? You are some of the biggest retailers and companies in the State of Georgia...!!

Where is your corporate pride and MUSCLE to pressure these govt. morons to quit making your Brand look so bad here? Do you think ANYONE looks at YOUR signage anymore on this hwy? They are looking at WEEDS and TRASH and LOOSE ASPHALT and FILTH along YOUR MAIN ENTRANCES!!!! FOR THREE YEARS NOW....THREE YEARS....????

The true shame of all of this, is of course, an inept state govt. The reality is, individually, we cannot solve this. I am BEGGING our corporate people here to help us ALL out. Us locals WANT you to flourish here and enjoy our hard earned money. Please work together and I know you can accomplish what those of us here in these blogs feel will truly benefit all of us in this community.

Sonny took some more!

Wonder how the local right wingers feel about that?

Sound like about 8 million per mile (plus a bridge.)

How much does the paving company contribute to State republicans?Hypocrisy!

Uhhh, the road was going to be widened anyway. Now instead of just GA tax payers paying for it the money will be coming from Federal money (which comes from ALL the tax payers from all states).

So Bonkers, pick a time an place and Ill leave you the whole nice shinny penny came out of your pocket just so you'll stop complaining.

Woyld you have passed a bond at election opf 41 million to do the job?

I thought that was what you conserves wanted to do---no federal intervention or money!

Is it that you will decide each case as it occurs? Your benefit OK, mine, No!

I'm a "Right winger conservative" and DO NOT agree with this!!! Hello! This makes no sense. Let's cut back on the teachers pay, hours, etc., but spend it on the stupid road? Well ya know what, might as well put a red light in at Rock-A-Way and 74 while your at it! At least that will help keep the lives of people out of danger! Oh, I'm sure they'll keep the speed limit at 45 MPH as well. 4 lane and 6 lane a hwy and keep it at 45 MPH - that makes no sense. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

"Anyone who knows what this comment above means let me know!"

You just gave me a great idea Bonker$. That needs to be your own personal signature. All you have to do is update your profile. It would appear at the bottom of every single clueless, wandering missive you post here. Kind of your own personal disclaimer, like "I don't know what I just said, how could you?".

You happy with the 41,000,000 dollars for three miles? Tax money from feds you know?
Send it back over Sonny's head. Just like Palin tried to do but after saying it, didn't! Built the bridge to the uninhabited Island
anyway!

"You happy with the 41,000,000 dollars for three miles? Tax money from feds you know?"

Actually, not really. But, I would rather it be used for that than another debilitating entitlement program. Like expanding funding for ACORN maybe? Instead of having "a chicken in every pot" we could have "a bordello on every block". Talk about stimulating the economy....
