Hwy. 74 widening gets stimulus fundsWed, 09/16/2009 - 10:32am
By: John Munford
The second phase of widening Ga. Highway 74 in Peachtree City will be funded by federal stimulus monies. This week, Gov. Sonny Perdue certified the project so it could receive $37.03 million in stimulus funds. The project involves widening the highway from Cooper Circle southward to Ga. Highway 85 from two to four lanes. Bids are slated to be let on the project Friday, but it is not immediately known when work is scheduled to begin. The road widening will stretch for 3.3 miles and includes a new bridge over Flat Creek and the realignment of Padgett Road just south of Ga. Highway 85 so it can link to the traffic light. Fayette is also slated to get other stimulus funding for transportation projects, including $2.82 million for resurfacing and maintenance on Hwy. 85 between Hwy. 74 and Ga. Highway 92. The county is also projected to get $1.1 million in funds for other road resurfacing projects. login to post comments |
