If you are going to be staying at a hotel during your visit, I would like to recommend the Holiday Inn here in Peachtree City. Great folks and they have golf carts to rent at the hotel. I could also recommend a relator, several restaurants, an attorney and a tire company. Feel free to email me at dartdana@gmail.com

IGNORE THE GRUMPY OLD NAYSAYERS! Child predators? Single mothers? Anybody who would suggest you "check out the laws in Georgia" before you move here has an agenda or a loose screw -- or likely both!

Never trust someone who can't say something good about the place in which they live ... if they really cared they'd so something to improve the situation, or move! But they seldom do, because the issue isn't about the place so much as it is their lack of a sense of BELONGING to the place and the satisfaction they get from COMPLAINING about it (as well as the need to make others feel disconnected too!)

WOW! That's pretty deep phsycho babble for a Sunday night, but it peeves me when people talk down (or are ambivelant) about this community, because it's truly remarkable in most every way: Excellent schools, high quality of life, variety of entertainment, abundance of parks and recreation, natural beauty, good shopping, nice restaurants, great amenties, superb health care, occasionally annoying traffic. (Sorry, no beach ... but also no gators, and four seasons!)

DO I WORK FOR THE CHAMBER? Naw ... but my family was here in the 1820s when this part of Georgia was ceded from the Creek Indians and lawfully settled for the first time. There's history here, with most of the original families still in the area despite all the newcomers. There is EMOTIONAL INVESTMENT here that people seem very willing to make because you see the tangible results all around you. Fayette County is different, and chooses to be so. It's not a cookie-cutter place and there's tremendous pride in living here. If you embrace it, I'm sure it will embrace you.

Good luck!

We moved to PTC from Ocala, Fl with our 3 year old in December, just before Christmas. We still own a farm in Ocala, but we call PTC home now. We love the city, the people and the life here. There is some adjusting we are doing. For example, when you get to a 4 way stop sign, it seems the practice here is to be the most courteous to other drivers, as opposed to seeing how many you can run over with a quick slide to the stop sign, then stomping on the accelerator.

I don't know about water pollution here, 'been to cold to jump into the lakes for a swim. The water tastes fine and the clothes come out clean in the washer, so I have no complaints.

As for the child predators, seems to me the local Police have a sucessful campaign instituted. They go online and set up a meeting with predators (usually from other cities) to meet here in PTC and arrest them. The high rate of arrests in the city is due to excellent work cleaning up Georgia. 2 thumbs up!

My advice as a long time Florida Cracker, get up here and find a place to live. I will probably see you at the library or picnic park or on the cart paths. There, and I have learned to spell courteous.

Yes, our water is polluted - and so is the water of every other community that has public water drawn from rivers or streams. All we do is recyle water. Don't mean to be gross, but just think it through - when you discharge water from your body or house it goes back into the ground or the sewer system that eventually evaporates and then rains on you and your lawn and your lake - or wherever you get your water. Then you get it back.

Don't worry about the water - just be happy we only have 37 Democrats in the entire county - at last count - and they are dying off quickly.

Thank you! It feels like home already. You have put a smile on my face. Tell me more! Is it better to build or buy in PTC?

Buy a previously owned home in Glenloch or Braelinn Villages if you are in the $200-400,000 price range. If you want to build, that will be more expensive, but best bet there is to buy a teardown on the west side of Lake Peachtree and have fun.

Peachtree City is built out. You are right Hamster, buy something, then level it........Check with the city first though...they have many different rules and regulations.

.....it's shocking the fact that people, especially single women, with children, who are willing to advertise publicly themselves and their children without even realizing the dangers involved. You shouldnt be so trusting. PTC attracts alot of affluent residents but unfortunately alot of predators as well. Most child molestors pursue single women with children, and all they have to do is get online and wait for someone to set out their new welcome mat! I would check out the laws regarding sex crimes in Georgia before moving here.

I'll keep my guard up and stay on the look out. Hopefully we'll have good neighbors like you who look out for others. But please tell me. In your opinion, is PTC a good place to raise a family?

You and your kids will love it here. Don't listen to all the negative stuff from these people with too much time on their hands. You will love it here. Hurry up and move.

Talk to 3 people in order to get the straight story. One would be Jim Murray -Chief of Police. He'll tell you all about child predators and what he is doing about it - you will be impressed. At last count there were 3 registered in the entire county and they are under control. Secondly talk to Betsy Tyler at the City. She will give you the straight story about living here. By the way, don't make the mistake of living near here - like in Sharpsburg or Fayetteville - be sure you are in Peachtree City. Third get a good unbiased Realtor to send you the real info on property here. The new homes are very expensive and located in the last areas to be developed, which means not the best locations. Some of the older neighborhoods - about 10 years old - are the best value. Access to the lake or golf course, sometimes with views of either for below $250,000. An unbiased realtor will work for ReMax or Prudential. Avoid Home Source and Harry Norman and Keller Williams. Coldwell Banker is ok, too. Avoid the West Village and Planterra Ridge, there will be changes, annexations, traffic congestion and more. Be sure you stay east of State Highway 74. Be careful north of State Highway 54, your kids may be sent to school in Tyrone. In fact John DeCotis, the school superintendent is another one to talk to. - he's a straight shooter.

I can say you will LOVE it here! My family moved here in 1976 and I was only 12 years old. Yes, PTC Elementary was the only school here and I was bused to Fayetteville for Jr. HS and Sr. HS. Anyway, I married into the military and moved all over for 12 years. I came back to PTC and now my children are growing up here. As an adult who's childhood was in PTC, it is a great place to raise a family!

Your comment, "be careful your kids may be sent to school in Tyrone" is extremely inflammatory towards all of us who choose to live in Tyrone. What is your issue with Tyrone? The high schoolers scored higher on the recent state writing test than ANY other high school in the county. Must be doing something right. I'm sure John DeCotis will tell whomever that these schools are as good as any in the county. I lived in Peachtree City from 1970 till 1988 and chose Tyrone over Peachtree City for my children's schooling. One thing you won't find in Tyrone is as many ostentatious veiwpoints. ARF, ARF!!

If you or jjen chooses to live north of Highway 54, say within sight of Mc Intosh HS, your kids could still be sent to Tyrone for public school. Reason is under enrollment there and over enrollment at McIntosh. Lots of reasons and history, but why deal with it if you don't have to? Stay south of Highway 54 and your school experience will be better.

I am not sure what your problem is with Fayetteville, honesty I seem to read more and more about teenagers getting into trouble that live in Peachtree City. I live in South Fayette County, I have three children one in highschool (Whitewater) and one in elementary school (Spring Hill). I moved here three years ago from Naples Florida. Beautiful place to visit, just dont raise your kids there. Point is I am so happy I choose South Fayette, the kids are awesome, the teachers great, and the parents for the most point are all involved in there childrens lives. I have never met such caring and giving people as I have here in Fayette County. But as I said before, more and more I read about teens (Peachtree City)getting
in trouble with the law. I would say however my realtor told me the same thing, stay south of State Highway 54.
Good Luck

Yes indeed South Fayette is a good choice if you can't find what you want in Peachtree City. Good schools, no overcrowding yet and some nice subdivisions - Horseman's Run is one of the best and not too pricey. If you commute to Atlanta, you will be a long way just getting to the expressway, but other than that - fine place.

But, be sure you check out the schools (no matter where you are looking) and be on the lookout for recent or potential redistricting. They try to balance enrollment at all the schools and that means you can live next to one school and your kids will be sent to another where they have to take the bus - or be driven. That gets parents emotional - regardless of the quality of either school.
