The Obama administration has announced...

that it is imposing tariffs on Chinese tire imports. The three-year plan will be have 35% tariffs the first year, 30% tariffs the second year, and 25% tariffs the third year. This was done at the behest of the United Steel Workers. Interesting that US tire manufactures are non-committal.

China just announced a probe into the alleged dumping of American auto and chicken products.

Didn't we go through the same thing before in '30 with the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act.

Bonker$, you remember that traiff act don't you?

I knew Mr. Smoot personally. He meant well--thinking that if we made their stuff more expensive to buy here that we would buy our own stuff. Get the depression over with!
Well as it turned out many countries decided not to buy any of our stuff or charged us a big old tariff on their end.
Now that really hurt. Mr. Smoot never got over it, people still talk and write blogs about him to this day.

What we need to do is to charge a tariff on incoming stuff only on those things that we don't need or can do without, but charge foreigners a huge tariff outgoing on stuff they really have to have from us.
We could embargo stuff too like we did Japan's oil and stuff before WW2, causing them to get real mad and blow up Pearl Harbor.

Now what is it we need from overseas? Oriental Tea of course, certain fish eggs, chrome, math geniuses from the orient, shrimp--so they don't cost $100 a meal here, winter fruit from South America, and of course WalMart's biggest seller--bananas.
The rest we can make here.

I figure we will still be able to sell debt without an outgoing tariff, soldiers and sailors to fight wars in awful places, military expertise and jail building, and barrels to ship our oil in.

Sure would be good to fire up widget factories again paying laborers about $8 an hour and the CEOs about six million AND STOCK OPTIONS.
We could build jammed housing beside the factories and rent them to the workers real cheap and issue script to buy their food at the company store.
They could do their own schools and roads and water and sewer and take nothing from the government.

I hate that too many facts and too much knowledge has caused you to begin stuttering!
One must keep up in this new world by knowing about the history of the old world.
That is one of the reasons we keep making the same old stupid mistakes over and over----not having any idea what has not worked before!

Wars, unregulated crooks, 20% of an economy one thing (health now), quit manufacturing, marches, flustering words on FOX, etc.

Stuttering? Blah, blah, blah is the message one gets from the majority of your ramblings. Being old hasn't provided you with much useful knowledge. From what you write here, you are the king of useless information.

You see the world from the miserable, old, liberal, cynical prizm that you think is real. Republicans are responsible for everything bad in this country according to you. That's the way you see it old man. Not the way it actually is. What else could you call yourself besides Bonker$ (even though you do on this very blog)????

Speaking of FOX, I'm sure you're watching right now with the curtains drawn. If not, Martha MacCallum is HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT today. Sweet dreams....

What is this "old" "old man" old stuff you repeatedly mutter?

Since Hoover, republicans have been a pit-fall for our country every time they get a chance.
The best Ike could do (he was really an Independent)was nothing good or bad.

We stagnated.

"What is this "old" "old man" old stuff you repeatedly mutter?"

Take a look at your birth certificate (if they used them during the Civil War) or a mirror. You'll know what old is then. Besides, you love to whine about the hassles Medicare puts you through. Unless you're a liar, then you're old.

"Since Hoover, republicans have been a pit-fall for our country every time they get a chance.
The best Ike could do (he was really an Independent)was nothing good or bad."

You can rewrite history as much as you like. Actual history shows you're either a liar or an idiot, or both. You write lies here all the time about the Republican Party. And you wonder why nobody takes you seriously? Just like the crap you wrote about the people who went to D.C. this weekend. You have no idea how many people were there. You were sitting in your Depends diaper in your own house this weekend, fantasizing about the chicks on FOX. As far away from D.C. as I was. I don't know for sure how many were there and I know you don't. I do know the fact that they are still meeting has you scared. Otherwise, you wouldn't bother trying to ridicule it.

"We stagnated."

I refuse to discuss your bodily functions.

Sorry, but those are the interpretations I get when reading Bonker$ drivel. I am just offering cliff notes for anyone who doesn't understand his incoherent rantings or have time to waste.

To answer your question, no cut and pasting here. Just typing away and chuckling to myself....

I just know that I was really pissed when I found out that the Goodyear Tires I bought from Walmart were made in China and the Firestone tire I had to buy in an emergency situation in North Carolina also came from China. No one volunteered that info to me prior to purchase. Well, seeing as a large percentage of everything else we buy is made in China, why worry about tires? On the other hand, when they purchase our bonds and prop up our economy, why shouldn't we expect some sort of payback?

About those Chinese tires. A few years ago, a single importer was forced to recall about a half million light truck tires. It seems that an engineer at the Chinese tire plant decided not use an adhesive binder which aids in securing the tread to the tire casing. The NHTSA wanted a recall but the importer didn't have the financial wherewithal to refund and went out of business. Of course, the Chinese company continues to make tires today. BTW, the Chinese plant did not keep records as to what lot and batch of tires did not have this binder agent.

But then remember the Firestone and Ford debacle where over 250 were killed and more than 3,000 were injured. Those tires were manufactured domestically. As such, the civil courts had more leverage with Firestone and Ford.

Of course this starts the whole slippery slope argument of companies looking to escape liability by manufacturing off shore.

I have two Chinese tires on my trailer which will soon be replaced by American made tires..........I hope.
