Planners to consider lights at McIntosh practice fieldFri, 09/11/2009 - 3:22pm
By: John Munford
A plan to add lighting to the practice field at McIntosh High School will be considered Monday night by the Peachtree City Planning Commission. The school is proposing to add five 60-foot tall light poles to the field, which is adjacent to Walt Banks Road. It is also near several homes, and two property owners close to the fields have objected in writing to the lights being added. Another homeowner, Scott Simon, told the commission at its August meeting that he was concerned the lights would add night activities year-round. He said his family has become accustomed to the varied uses of the practice field during daylight hours and consider that “a part of living next to the high school.” The practice field is used by the football and soccer teams, the band and physical education classes, Simon told the commission. The school is proposing to set the lights on a timer system so they can’t be used later than 10 p.m. But Simon said the regular stadium lights are not turned off by 11 p.m. or 30 minutes after an event ends as required by a city ordinance. Simon indicated that he also worried the practice field could be made into a regulation field in the future complete with loudspeakers and full-time activity. login to post comments |
