Traffic slowdowns expected in some areas of city as part of adult triathlon

Due to the Peachtree City Adult Triathlon Saturday morning, the city library won't be opening until 2 p.m.

The Triathlon takes place in large part in the library/city hall area as swimmers exit Lake Peachtree in the Picnic Park/All Children's Playground area to climb onto their bikes for the cycling stage. The event begins at 7:30 and is expected to last through 11 a.m.

The Triathlon also is expected to affect traffic in some areas. The run will take place on the paths, but will cross Waterwood Bend in two locations.

The bicycle portion of the race may impact traffic on Willowbend Road, Hip Pocket, Kelly Drive/McIntosh Trail, Robinson Road, Braelinn Road, and Colonnade Drive during the race in both directions.

I live in the same area.. lighten up..we live in Peachtree City to be a part of these community events. The air show, the Triathlon(s), Dragon boat races, fireworks, arts & crafts festivals, Lighting of the Christmas (Holiday) tree, Peachtree City Classic...etc. these are all great events that may inconvenience some but make PTC a great place to live. Plan ahead. Like you said it happens every year. Don't be a curmedgeon! Oh and it's not the Peachtree City Running Club that puts this event on.

We just had one of these D__m things a couple of months ago and to tell you the truth I and all of my neighbors are sick and tired of it. When we wanted to have a block party in our subdivision on a dead end road we had to get the signature of every one on that road before the city would even consider approving it. But if the Peachtree City Running club wants to hold an event and completely block whole subdivisions from exiting for 3 1/2 hours its done without any consideration whatsoever to the Tax Paying Citizens of PTC. I have talked with friends and neighbors in 5 of the subdivisions along McIntosh trail and they all agree that it needs to stop. A number of kids that live in our sub. have school functions on Saturday morning what are they suppose to do? Yes I know some of them have golf carts to use but what trails will be closed and then there are kids with no golf cart. The last time they were here there were adults standing along McIntosh trail beside their cars going to the bathroom in the open and they left trash everywhere. We just want this stopped and if we have to get a petition going we will.

with that whine? Honestly, how long do they keep traffic held up?

I think they do all of this stuff in the same place every year! Block Parkway and McIntosh both.

Do it at the Avenue over to Walmart or reverse!

out of a smarta$$ like you. Come on over and try and get somewhere on Saturday. My wife has to be at work at the airport at 8:30, my kids have to be at school at 9, what are they suppose to do. I pay my taxes and should not be put out by a bunch of bicyclist going to the end of the road and back. Hell, this thing is Saturday and the first we hear about it is Thursday. The last time they had one of these (3 months ago) it wasn't even in the paper, first you heard about it was when you tried to leave the sub. Now that I have gotten that off of my chest, they close our road for 3 1/2 hours.

You can contact the right people here:

http://www.tri-ptc.com/

This was the first year I participated in this event. I can understand your frustration, but why don't you think about participating yourself next year. See what it feels like to train and finish something you never thought you'd be able to do.

On another note, while riding on the course I saw cops and volunteers direct traffic coming out of the subdivisions numerous times. I find it hard to believe that you were "imprisoned" in yours.

A couple of suggestions.

The PTC Running Club is a very good organization. The members are good people and do not want to upset anyone. If you contact them, perhaps they can work out a solution to your problem on Saturday morning.

Second. I know that some people along the route plan ahead. On Friday night they park their cars a block or two away, outside the biking route. This means you may have to walk a short distance to your car on Saturday morning, but that is a only a small inconvenience.
