Race is not an issue

In regards to the article about the minority group in schools and illegal "aliens", I would like to say that I am from Mexico City and cannot believe how close-minded people are. I was always treated like an illegal alien even though I was not. My parents always had my siblings and I attend the best schools and they paid tuition. We also have NEVER been in any type of government assistance. We were in after school activities and my parents ALWAYS PAID FROM THEIR OWN POCKETS. I graduated high school and received several scholarships to continue my education. I came from a low economic household and was never trouble. I have graduated college and I am obtaining two more degrees. It is not the color of your skin or whether you are illegal or not. An education is an education. EVERYONE IS AN IMMIGRANT TO THIS COUNTRY, EVEN THE WHITES. I am happy to say that my husband is Caucasian and my son is American. I cannot believe that now in 2006 we see so much racism despite the war, poverty, and deaths that we are seeing. We should enjoy the time we are here on earth and not hate each other. Why do you go to church and repent if in your heart you are hating people of color?

I don’t know where you got the impression that I hate people of color. I AM a ‘person of color’ with mixed heritage and relatives who legally immigrated into this County. Fayette County citizens are upset because non-Fayette County residents are sending their children to school here. The point I was trying to make was that there are also non U.S. citizens sending their children to school here.

Someone else made a comment that since the minority population on the voter registration list didn't increase by the same percentage that the minority population increased in the school system, then it must be because black minorities were bringing their children to school from Clayton County. I didn’t agree with that generalization. My theory was that there are a lot of single parents with more than one child and that none of the illegal aliens register to vote.

I have many concerns about illegal aliens in our Country. None of my concerns have anything to do with racism or hate.

There are millions of people who are slipping through and entering our country illegally. With more than 11 MILLION people living in our country illegally and more than 500,000 more coming each year, one can assume that there must also be terrorists and criminals slipping through. I realize that most people come here for a better life, but after 911 we cannot afford to make assumptions. People who want to immigrate to the United States should follow proper protocol. And when a local school system suspects that they have illegal aliens in their school, they should be REQUIRED to report it and not turn a blind eye.

Illegal aliens place a financial burden on our society by not contributing toward the services and benefits they receive. The school system is only one example, but it is the one we were discussing. The average family of illegal immigrants have 2 to 4 school-aged children. On average, it costs $7,000 to educate each child. Nationally, that is about $40 BILLION dollars a year! I'd like every child to have the opportunity for a quality education, but not at my child’s expense. We have limited resources. And, if families are sneaking in under the radar of homeland security, then they certainly are not contributing toward funding the school’s budget. Yet, in turn, we have to provide extra services to meet their unique needs and the school system can't send them away!? It’s ludicrous!

They also drain our tax base by earning money here to send back to their own country. By doing this they cause a reduction of secondary profit. They spend their money on products outside the United States, thereby decreasing tax profits for the government which decreases the amount of funding we have for our schools.

It is mind boggling when you consider just how dysfunctional it is. We simply cannot afford to allow it to continue, but we are too busy fighting amongst ourselves about racism to notice that while we focus our conflict within, we are allowing millions of people to quietly invade our country all around us who are draining our resources and puting our national security at risk.

You really want to put an end to racism ? Then listen to Morgan Freeman. Below is a quote from him to Mike Wallace of 60 minutes on how to do this.

“Stop talking about it. I'm going to stop calling you a white man,” Freeman says to Wallace. “And I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman.

Until we quit “keeping score” we will never truly end racism.

Its interesting how some prominent black figures are held up as examples by some whites as an example of how blacks should think and act. 100 years ago, right here in Georgia, whites applauded and cheered when Booker T. Washington essentially said that blacks should stay on the farm, and not go to college.

I wish someone would simply be honest and recognize the fact that roughly 87% of the county's population feel that the other 13% is inferior to their values and way of life. Would Clayton County be constantly ridiculed on this blog if it still were a white-majority county? How dare those North Fayette citizens have the audacity of thinking that their property tax dollars should support their area! What were they thinking?

We say that race is not a factor, but would a local lawmaker be personally attacked if he were not black just because there are those who disagree with him?

One of the most ridiculous arguments against district voting is that encourages corruption, and a less than honest government. I have yet to see any facts to support that point of view, but I recognize that people feel a certain way, then why should facts get in the way?

Oh, and another thing, lets stop demonizing people who share a different opinion from us on this issue, implying that proponents of the concept of district voting are outside the mainstream.

So while the issue is over for now, lets learn to respect each other's point of view, and lets cease with the 'Claytonization' of Fayette.

You asked if a local lawmaker would be personally attacked if he were not black just because there are those who disagree with him? Are you serious?!! What planet are you from? Have you ever heard of Steve Brown? You really aren't from around here, are you?

Clayton County was constantly ridiculed long before the demographics changed. The issue of ridicule was poor development, poor planning, poor traffic control and poor education.

What happened 100 years ago has nothing to do with the issue at hand. You are just trying to incite more racial tension because it is the only arguement that you can make that stirs up a reaction from a large group people who normally wouldn't care about the daily affairs of politics.

If you would make a valid point, I might have respect for the point of view, even if I disagree. But, it is damn hard to respect another person's point of view when he continues to call you a racist for simply disagreeing with him or when that point of view never moves beyond name calling and racial accusions. Move on already.

I have been keeping up with the recent comments on this subject, and wanted to say that I am from the South...born and raised. This type of behavior/comments is nothing new, People. Minorities, (most of us) are "dual socialized" and actually know how to deal with this. Whites in Fayette have got to know that people can reside wherever they like and that is exactly what we plan to do...obviously. I personally find humor in some of the comments because I smell FEAR from the so called "wealthy caucasians." My husband and I would like to say thanks to you guys for YOUR foreclosed home and 50 thousand in equity, which brought us to Fayette. We appreciate it. And we LOVE Fayette!!!! Additionally, to the lady that was up at 3:45 am responding to comments on this topic......you really need to get some sleep!!! Have a Blessed day, everyone and let's be more positive! Life is really too short.

I smell something else on this one.

I don't think it is FEAR that you smell, but the ODOR from that CHIP on your shoulder. I'm sure the family who's equity of $50m you have assumed, even though they may have fallen on hard times, is very happy that you have increase your net worth. Was the house in good shape? Did they put their blood, sweat, and tears into making that house a home? I'm glad that you LOVE Fayette!!!! But carrying that CHIP will Fayette LOVE you???? Your celebration of sticking it to the "wealthy caucasians" who lost their home reminds me of the football player who scores a touchdown, does his dance, spikes the ball, rubbing his opponents nose in "it". Your neighbors will love you.

It's a chip all right.

Well....I'd say the "Whites" in Fayette realize this is American and people can live wherever they like. I'd like to see everyone, no matter what color, earn the right to live wherever they like...and not be placed wherever they like by handouts from the government. I was appalled to read your expression of gratitude to the people that lost their home with 50 thousand equity which allowed you to grab it up. Sounds a lot insensitive to me. What if that family had been yours?!! Taking advantage of one's misfortune and then bragging about it....hmmmm.....yep, you're real positive.

The lady with the chip will lose it and her house soon when her situation changes. Sounds like an overreacher to me. Good riddance in advance.
