Knights of Columbus award scholarships to local students

The Knights of Columbus Holy Trinity Council 8081, Peachtree City is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Donald B. Martin Memorial Scholarship fund. The recipient of the $1000 scholarship is Kathleen Dunphy who graduated from Sandy Creek High School and will be attending Georgia College & State University to major in Science then Nursing. The recipient of the $750 scholarship is Christine Keyser who graduated McIntosh High School and will be attending Georgia Tech going on to Dental School to major in Pediatric Dentistry. Congratulations to both of these outstanding students. We wish them and all of the exceptional applicant’s success in their college careers.

It saddens me to see that the scholarships would not go to students that are attending one of the catholic high schools, where the student is receiving a catholic based education.

1) The only requirement is that the recipient be parish members; if you'd like to suggest changes, begin dialogue with the Knights

2) Who says the parents aren't providing good Catholic examples? I also assume that the two recipients are LifeTeen leaders. It seems as if it would be tougher to keep our Catholic values in a public school.

Please note - as a Catholic HS grad, I am not knocking OLV or OLM in any way whatsoever. It just saddens me that a fellow Catholic would be this petty especially in print.
