Donors needed ASAP to replenish blood supply

The American Red Cross has issued an urgent call for blood donors as blood supply throughout the Southeast has dipped to critical levels in the past week.

There is an urgent need for type O negative, B negative and A negative blood donors in particular, officials said.

Two more blood drives are slated for Fayette County this week.

The next is Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church at 551 New Hope Road from 2-7 p.m. On Thursday the Red Cross bloodmobile will be at Piedmont Fayette Hospital outside the hospital's 1279 building from noon-5 p.m.

Blood is always needed for the treatment of accident victims, cancer patients, hemophiliacs and surgery patients.

I hope more people show up at the other two! The Library drive was not crowded like it usually is when I go.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe I will try again. I was someone who went every time I was eligible. I would always make an appointment to donate at a specific time and would show up 15 minutes early. They just ignored the appointments and added you to the back of the list of walk-ins. I finally just gave up. I know a few others who stopped going for the same reason.
