Will link homes with industrial park

Residents in south Peachtree City will soon be able to take the cart path to a portion of the city’s industrial park.

Thursday night the City Council approved a $223,000 bid to construct the approach structures for a bridge over Flat Creek. The bridge will link the path behind the Morallion Hills subdivision with the Gardner Park industrial park.

While the bridge itself has been installed for more than two years, the bridge approaches were delayed in part because a group of citizens was concerned about the design causing flooding issues in an area where flooding typically occurs with heavy rain.

The project ultimately was redesigned and won approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The winning bidder was Backwood Bridges of Freeport, Fla. which was the low bidder on the project. In second place was Georgia Atlanta Contractors of Doraville, Ga. at $297,200.

Kim Cort, who lives on Mattan Point near the bridge, said she was concerned about the price difference and also the potential for flooding at her home. Cort said she has not seen the city’s revised flood elevation for the area but said she wanted to do so before the city approved the project.

Mattan Point resident Nancy Gilvin said she wanted to meet with the company to make sure that despite the difference in bid prices the company would “make sure we get what we paid for ... and make sure they understand our needs and they will meet them.”

City resident Phyllis Aguayo urged the council to consider increasing the buffer for undeveloped land along Flat Creek to prevent future flooding issues.

City Stormwater Manager Mark Caspar said Backwood Bridges’ references from other cities spoke well for the company, which has done similar projects.

The golf cart paths are my favorite thing about PTC but I don't understand the need for a bridge to an industrial park. Especially given the current financial condition of PTC.

...will be opened once its built. How long has the 54 bridge been built now ad it’s still not open? I know, its not PTC governments fault...its the states...RIGHT!
