All Saints hosts 58 children at 2nd summer music campTue, 07/28/2009 - 2:31pm
By: The Citizen
All Saints Anglican Church in Peachtree City completed its second annual Summer Music Camp July 24 as 58 children received certificates of completion from the rector, Father Michael Fry. Parents and staff enjoyed an end-of-camp musical program by the graduates, ages 5-12. Attendance was nearly twice that of the first year. The growth was attributed to the success of the first camp and increased publicity before the second camp. Music director Shannon Bryan spearheaded the week-long program, with the assistance of youth director Fracena Dolan and some 15 parish volunteers, to include seven teenagers. During the program, Bryan introduced the children to the works of famous hymn writers such as John Newton, who wrote “Amazing Grace” and Fanny Crosby, who wrote “Blessed Assurance.” Besides learning a variety of hymns and praise songs, the children were also exposed to several types of musical instruments. Different parish members and guest performers provided demonstrations of instruments to include the piano, harp, guitar and various percussion instruments. Those attending were also invited to take part in a ministry for the needy by donating non-perishable food items. During break-times fruit and vegetable snacks were available. The camp was held at 303 Kelly Dr., the current location of the church. All Saints will move to its permanent property later this summer. login to post comments |
