Wise Latina not Borked!

Judge Robert Bork was "Borked" by the Senate because of some of his actions as a circuit judge, but mostly for his philosophy of "Originalism," about the Constitution.
The term is more complicated than this but in general it is:
When reading the Constitution, one should imagine what the writers (origninally) really meant then and not what we mean now!

I suppose that would mean that such items as individual rights, slavery, abortion, etc., are better left to each State than to the Federal Government.

Of course that kind of thinking violates the original Constitution which says that states must honor each others laws!

I suppose it is kind of like Interpreting the Bible to people like Bork! He never had any kids so I don't suppose he is too worried about how they are raised!

Anyway the "wise Latina," so far hasn't been "Borked."

Anyway most decisions are made by lawyers who put together a multitude of various and sundry thoughts about what is meant by the Constitution (like, does right to happiness mean abortion), and so forth.
Does well-organized militia mean I can carry a pistola? Does it mean we can have slaves and can they vote?

Does it mean we can't eat meat from cloven-hoofed animals? Or Nothing but Fish on Friday?
Is the Pope fallible?
Does the Vice-President have authority to order the CIA not to tell congress something, and they must not then do it?
Does he deserve a salute from the military? Does he salute the President?

I could go on!

I think "Borking" is over! Whomever the Prsident wants after adise and Consent is to be confirmed.
By the way is it "advise" or "advice?"
Might that have been a typo? (No they hand printed it, didn't they?)
Anyway those old dudes in Philadelphia were drunk most of the time and had to ask Jefferson to stay out of the slave quarters long enough to write the thing!

Let us see how she do.

that is firmly entrenched in both lips. You insinuate that the story being circulated on the CIA issue is for real, even though the former CIA Chief has publically stated that Cheney did no such thing. You believe what you choose and I will continue to believe that Cheney is an honorable man who has served his nation well over many years in varying positions of responsibility. Surely he has a documented history of servitude that can't be claimed by most citizens here or elsewhere.

Longevity in "servitude" means absolutely nothing! Hitler did "servitude" much longer than Cheney.

Don't you mean on the tax payroll, or becoming a multi-millionaire as a rresult of the servitude, or something else other than "servitude?

What CIA director said Cheney didn't order something? He doesn't and can't order it. He relays information!!! So does Biden.

your problem(s). One more time--Cheney made his money as CEO of a multi-national corporation--that means responsibility for profit & loss and the well being of humdreds of employees. Those are things that some people can't handle--or at least successfully. He did. And I suspect he would tell you today that, while he was certainly within his legal rights to go the deferment route, that's not something he's particularly proud of. On the other side of the coin, I'm not particularly proud of the 2 1/2 yrs I spent in Vietnam either but then again, I was a professional soldier and it was my job.

He did a fine job in 'Nam. Oh, wait, he and Stockman and bunch of the other RAYguns had "Better things to do." Same can be said of the Bush twins & their good looking cousin on the current (to loosely quote Uncle Walter), "Quagmire" in Iraq. Let's not forget that TX was not attacked while Duby was "flying" & dodging.

Think of it this way: Dick Cheney (A V.P.) served as long as Bill Clinton (draft dodger in Russia smoking weed but not inhaling)and Obama (living with an illegal Pakistani immigrant selling cocaine who tooted some himself) and Joe Biden (5 military deferments) combined.

So, you voted for Bush, Dole and McCain (all who served) over Clinton, Clinton, and Obama (who did NOT serve)- right?

People in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.

The "better things to do" that Cheney said, was to go to school instead of help fight the war! 3-4 deferrments.
By the time that thing was over with 50,00 dead and those serving got home, Cheney had graduated and starting getting rich!! "Better things to do."

Some people are too smart and too good to do much fighting. They really don't even care about the ones who do.

Yet, if they say "family values, three times, and no women's rights twice (while three in their expanded family have abortions), and "cut taxes on the rich four times"....the rest doesn't matter.
That is assuming they aren't caught with their Mr. or Mistress!

That is why that party is dying.

It's obvious you don't even know what you're complaining about. The accusation was that Cheney had ordered the CIA Director not to tell Congress about a certain CIA operation in the planning stages. And Cheney earned much of whatever his worth is by working as a private citizen--you know, one of those activities we Americans can do and if we're successful, enjoy the results. And the former CIA Director was Michael Hayden. Take a break. The weekend is coming up.

Submitted by Bonkers on Mon, 07/20/2009 - 6:58pm.

General Hayden was the daddy of the illegal wiretaps on individual and then destroyed some of the evidence.
He does say he did not get instructions from VP Cheney to NOT report the secret assassinations on foreign soil program to congress. I'm sure he did not get "instructions" (suggestions, maybe?) as such! Whether or not they might have killed someone we may never know.
If Hayden did what they said he did with the phones, then he was capable of assassination (unauthorized) plots.

Enough "others" have said that it happened for congress to start hearings soon!

I don't know if even congress wants us to know or not---we will see.

Power seems to corrupt some to think they know when they can violate the law for our "good."

Should we not have some standards on here?

Room temperature IQ, for example.

Or, no drinking during the day?

Why do we have to endure this stuff, Cal. Free speech is ok for most people, but this Bonkers dude gives free speech a bad name.

Can we throw him off the island, Cal?

Don't like the truth in plain Missouri English, huh?
Yes, we need some standards, but not all right-wing false spiritualistic.
That leads to tribal failure. Not learning anything from history is a continuing mistake.

Just when you think he is improving he goes off the deep end again. Can't someone take him to the arts and crafts lessons at the senior center or something? I think he needs a hobby. Did he attend the coffee and do his corner bit with the dark glasses and recording device hidden in his shoe?

Are you saying we should "respect" them as people or as leaders?

They were just what I said! Also, being in the upper class, they did lead!

Just as burning witches and the Catholic Inquisition in 1600s and before was OK, so was what they did in the 1700s! Even King Solomon and David were leches and killers, among leadership!

We can say what they were and did without leading our youth into lack of knowledge!

I'll bet your respect isn't too much for Clinton. Truman, Johnson, Kennedy, Roosevelt, and of course Carter!

How about Father Reagan?

about what I respect.."I'll bet your respect isn't too much for Clinton. Truman, Johnson, Kennedy, Roosevelt, and of course Carter!"

Actually I have a lot of respect for all.. as the Office Holder of President.. Some of their decisions .. now that's another story.

However, what you obviously miss here.. is not one of these built a NATION.. Crafted a document that was so forward thinking that over 200 years later is still admired and copied all over the world. Here in America not so much anymore I am afraid.

Different times call for different leaders.. What is acceptable behavior then is not now.. Today may not be acceptable tomorrow.. and on and on...

Look at you.. during the McCarthy years you would be in prison.. ahhh the "Good old days"..

On a scale of 1-10, where does (respect wise) Obama as the President, stand with you?

Once upon a time many, many moons ago I had to memorize, as a President of the JAYCEES, something which included:

"We are a nation of laws, not of men!"

We do change the laws and the Constitution, but whatever is listed there must have some kind of respect. Abortion is allowed under extreme circumstances and doctors say when!

Thank goodness we have some kind of term limits, although they are not short enough.

I listened to the McCarthy hearings!

Do you remember "is there sir no depth to which you will not stoop in order to ruin the life of this young man?" Or an approximation.

The alcoholic brain-damaged Wisconsin Senator had questioned the sexual persuasion of a person which had no bearing whatsoever with communism!

Only Cal can do such as that on here. Which heads roll is important sometimes.

The current sitter is just a guy.. Like many others but not like most.
Obama is fundamentally changing America.. He is transforming America into something I cannot even conceptualize..
What he and the Democratic controlled Congress is doing to us is as close to Treason as one can get without opening the doors to a foreign power.

So do I respect Obama... Short answer ... NO.
