Keep politicians away from Tea Party eventsTue, 07/14/2009 - 3:26pm

Congratulations to the Peachtree City Tea Party Patriots and the rally held the afternoon of the Fourth of July. I am familiar with the group and its leaders as a passive bystander because my wife is heavily involved. I attended the rally because my wife volunteered me. I was impressed with the speakers, the organization of the event, and the turnout. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the event. My wife has asked for input all along and I have consistently told her this effort must be and remain a non-partisan, grassroots, inclusive organization. I was disappointed by the political opportunism by candidates for office. This rally was not a politicians’ event; it was a people’s event. I hope the group will fend off the politicians at future events. Equally disturbing was a couple of people constantly walking around, carrying signs calling for the impeachment of President Obama. As far as I know, the President hasn’t done anything that would warrant such an action. I don’t think the President is a bad guy. He loves his wife, is a good father, and hard worker. These are things most Americans value. I just don’t like where he is leading the country. Calling for his impeachment is divisive and counter-productive. I hope in the future, the Tea Party leaders would adopt a policy to police such behavior that these few individuals exhibited, and kindly ask them to put their signs away, participate in the rally, or leave. Otherwise Cindy Fallon and the PTC Tea Party Patriots put on a first-class event. Marcy Eisenburg Fayetteville, Ga. login to post comments |
