The Coweta County Commission last week gave unanimous approval to support proposed improvements to Newnan-Coweta Airport. The improvements are expected to be funded largely by federal dollars.

W.K. Dickson & Co. representative Lauren Crosby in a May 29 letter said the airport is in the preliminary stages of planning a runway safety area improvement, east parallel taxiway and east apron expansion. The proposed project involves extending the runway safety area an additional 1,000 by 3,000 feet at the northern end of runway 14-31, Crosby said. A partial parallel taxiway will be added to the east side of the runway with a connector taxiway to an east apron site for aircraft hangars and facilities, she said.

County Administrator Theron Gay told commissioners the airport plans to undertake a significant amount of expansion in the future, with some of that work occurring in the next couple of years. Though a portion of the funding would come from local sources, the majority of the funds are expected to come from federal sources, he said.

Crosby in the letter said compliance with all environmental regulations related to the proposal is ongoing.

Coweta County is protecting their asset and we are wanting to build houses at the end of our runway.

If our foolishness in Peachtree City continues, we will be subsidizing Falcon Field while Newnan-Coweta is raking in the cash.

Falcon Field needs to be a campaign issue in this upcoming election.
