Volunteer firefighter Les Dyer has announced he will run for a seat on the Peachtree City Council this November.

Dyer, a 20-year resident, will vie for the Post 4 seat currently occupied by Councilwoman Cyndi Plunkett. Plunkett previously has said she was considering a run for mayor but yesterday she declined to comment on her future plans.

Realtor Vanessa Fleisch has also declared her intent to run for the Post 4 seat.

Dyer, who lives on Graystone Court near the city’s eastern limits, said in a news release that he “hopes to bring ‘common sense’ and an overriding desire to do what is best for the city” to the council race.

A retired U.S. Air Force officer, Dyer holds a master’s degree from Texas Christian University. He has been a volunteer firefighter/EMT and has served as president of the fire department’s volunteer association for three years.

Dyer is also adjutant of the local VFW Post and chaired the south metro Heroes campaign for the American Red Cross.

Dyer’s wife, Connie, is a realtor with Home Source and they have one son who is currently an Air Force pilot and veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Dyer indicated he does not plan extensive campaigning until the election nears though he will discuss his plans and hopes for the city with any civic group or concerned citizen.

I couldn't think of a more qualified person with the " common sense " to make a difference in this city! Mr. Dyer would be an excellent addition to the council of this community, his desire to serve the citizens of Peachtree City is genuine and sincere. His impact on the Peachtree City Fire and Rescue Department as the President of the Volunteer Association will be felt for years to come. This gentleman has earned the respect of his peers with his enthuasism and attitude about service to the community, and more important to this country!! Good luck with the political arena brother, you have earned my respect!!!!

Not familiar with Les' impact upon fire dept, but have known him long enough to second your motion. Hope you "hit one out" Les.
