Safety zone established for PTC July 4th fireworks

The Peachtree City Fire Department has released a map showing the 700-800 feet safety zone established for the annual July 4th fireworks show over Lake Peachtree.

To ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors viewing the fireworks presentation, a buffer of 700-800 feet in all directions from the area of discharge must be maintained, fire officials said. All safe areas will be marked by red or yellow security tape, placed in the area by July 2nd.

The safety zone includes a significant portion of Lake Peachtree just south of Ga. Highway 54 and just past the inlet that reaches towards Picnic Park.

Even though much of the Picnic Park area is affected, the All Children’s Playground will remain open for play until 8 pm. At that time, all persons must be cleared from the area, since the playground is in the safety zone and no patrons can view fireworks from that area.

The safety zone is based on nationally recognized and adopted requirements and requirements from the fireworks contractor. The required safety zone also includes specific areas on the water.

The Peachtree City Fire Department, Fayette County Marshals office and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will have boats and personnel on the water to monitor the area. Boaters must be able to control their craft from drifting into the danger area zone which will be marked by flotation buoys.

Any violation of the rules will result in a delay of the fireworks show.  Also any violators to the safety rules and safety zones on land and water will be subject to police arrest.

The fire department also reminds residents that no consumer fireworks are allowed to be used, sold or possessed on any city-owned or controlled property.

Every year people start putting them out one day earlier than the previous year. Eventually the city might have to think about a 24hr rule.

I don't see why the City doesn't just have a few public works people not yet fired sweep the area clean of blankets left by morons up until the day of the 4th. Anyone leaving blankets down days before the 4th obviously is littering, leaving their junk in a public park.

I saw three in a row staked out with power pole anchor stakes yesterday!!

A parking place right behind them was also striped off with the words "Reserved, Franklin County!"

Rebars were welded between the stakes and across every 16" which in my opinion is where they will put the plywood across it before the blankets and chairs are lain out.

A small sign indicates that trespassers will be photographed automatically and will be punished accordingly.
