Fayetteville Police believe a Monday night burglary at Fayette Sporting Goods on North Glynn Street might be linked to some unusual behavior by three customers earlier in the day.

A store employee told officers that one of three men who had entered the store together on Monday began asking him if the the store had a security system or a safe, according to Maj. Kevin Gooding. During the conversation, the two other men wandered around the store, Gooding said.

At one point during the conversation, the employee asked the man if he was in the security business and told him the manager would be in shortly. It was at that point that the three men left, Gooding said.

The next morning at opening the back door was found unsecured. Some of the store’s merchandise had been moved around and some merchandise, along with an undisclosed amount of cash, may have been stolen, said Gooding.

The incident is under investigation.

Gooding reminded store owners and homeowners to call 911 when suspicious activity occurs.

“We want to help and prevent crimes in businesses and in homes,” said Gooding.

...like the legitimate security salespeople that come right up to your front sales counter and start spouting off my need to have such a system in place, all within earshot of a bunch of "No thanks, just Looking Around" cusomter that may or may not be casing the place. I say what I always say, that "we have a very high tech system and you are on camera right now as we speak, in high definition so that your face is as clear as a bell".

What are the descriptions of the three (highly) suspicious individuals or should I even bother to ask? I feel like the new Fayetteville PD Chief is doing a good job and more importantly, making some much needed changes. But..... It is going to take Law Enforcement (LE), businesses, and average citizens working together to deter the current crime wave; a concept most LE agencies are having a hard time comprehending.

I will bet dollars to donuts that IF they apprehend the thieves that they will find that they are out on probation or bail/bond for other recent offenses.

Yes! Opus, very funny. I nearly blew coffee all over my computer screen. I love it when bloggers don't take everything serious.
