Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) announced it will locate a proposed cancer treatment hospital in Newnan serving patients from across the Southeast. The company will create 500 jobs and invest $150 million over the first five years of operation.

“Having a cutting-edge cancer treatment facility like Cancer Treatment Centers of America choose Georgia further proves that our state is a destination for high-quality medical care,” said Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue. “Our deep reserves of talent, global access and spirit of collaboration make the state an ideal place to locate treatment and research facilities that will draw not just from Georgia, but from the entire Southeast.”

CTCA expects the new facility to generate $500 million in economic activity within five years of opening. With more than two-thirds of its patients expected to come from outside the state of Georgia, patients and their families will contribute to the growth and vitality of the local economy.

The proposed fully digital Georgia facility will mark the fifth CTCA hospital to offer cancer patients an integrated care model. The company will file a notice of intent to apply for a certificate of need with the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH), whose approval is necessary before CTCA can build and operate the facility. The Georgia hospital, if approved by DCH, will have 50 inpatient beds and more than 200,000 square feet.

“We are pleased to propose a new cancer treatment facility in the Southeast and thrilled to select Coweta County, a destination that will serve our patient population very well,” said CTCA President and CEO Steve Bonner. “Cancer patients living in the Southeast will have easier access to the high-quality, individualized, comprehensive care for which CTCA is known.”

“Cancer Treatment Centers of America choosing Newnan and Coweta County is a remarkable vote of confidence in our community,” said Bill Harrison, president of the Coweta County Development Authority. “This is just the first sign of growth of medical facilities in the area and the reestablishment of Coweta County as a regional center for medical care and related industries.”

The Georgia Department of Economic Development assisted the company in its location.

Wouldn't a location close to the new McIntosh Lake have been a great location as well? Too bad PTC building height requirements do not allow this type of business to build here. I guess PTC will keep trying to bring in manufacturers that don't exist any longer or rezone our way out of industrial space. Great job tackling the big issues PTC council. Raise the building height requirement so that we can complete for this type of business.

Doubt we could get the Cancer Center because they needed to be near the hospital in Newnan and the work force there is much better for medical than ours is, BUT you raise a good point about building height. What difference does it make in the industrial park? They are fooling around with Pathway's stupid subdivision idea in the middle of the industrial park and may even approve it tonite. Better they should focus on creating a more business friendly environment so we could create jobs instead of a subdivision which creates kids and a less than self-sufficient contribution in property taxes. We have enough housing already. Let's create some jobs.

I agree with your height issue, however, what data are you using in support of your claim that Newnan's work force "..is much better for medical than ours is."? Opinion or fact? Just curious.
