What about North Korea?

Are we to continue to increase the "starving them out" scenario, or
should we just go ahead and bomb out the missle and atomic energy places there?

Would the weirdo dictator invade South Korea with his million man army if we did?
If he did what would we do then?

Is the answer continued negotiations and squeezing the population to death?

Maybe pull an old "South American," CIA solution as we have in the past?

Ignore it all and let them make whatever they want to make and sell some bombs and missles to others maybe?

Syria would like to buy some, I think. How about Iran?

How would we whip that million man army? The "big old bombs" we have? Would the South Koreans be much help? Would Europe or the UN help?

What would the Russians do? The Chinese?

Cornered animals of most any type will fight to the death. Best to give them one way out at least.

Are we to continue to fight every country who challenges us, or others, forever? The French don't!

Where is our former 1-term wonder, the village idiot, Jimmy Carter? Why wasn't he in Iran to "monitor" the election? Oh, I forgot, he loves criminal dictators. He loves the fact that the Iranian people are in a stranglehold by the dictator He hates Christians, but has no problem with the fanatical religious freaks that wear diapers on their heads. If the candidate for more freedom, more tolerance of the West, woman's rights, etc. had won, idiot Jimmy would have said it was rigged. But, since the Ak-man won, Jimmy is understandably silent. Typical leftist.

Who needs a village i---t when we have you.

Out of all our past Presidents, Jimmy Carter and his family have given, for years, so much of themselves, to our Country and other Countries in need and for you to say this, is reprehensible. You, incorrect are clueless.

The sad thing is, when it is time for you to move on to those Pearly Gates and Jimmy Carter, I'm sure, will be at those Pearly Gates greeting everyone, he, out of all the past presidents will be the first to reach his hand out to you and welcome you in. That is, if you make it there, I have my doubts.

I really don't agree with anything that Jimmy Carter has said or done. He does put his money where his mouth is with all of his charities here and abroad. I do like that. He spends his own money instead of just telling me how he wants to spend mine (obumbles are you listening?)

I can't understand why he would want to help those neanderthal terrorists, but he does. He is a good man, thats why he made such a lousy politician.

The liberals have left the website, for the most part, since the level of discussion has slipped to an all time low and has become a toilet for dumping cut-and-paste, fecal posts from Fred and Darth. Looks like this website will become a boneyard of conservative tripe, name-calling and head-banging aimed at liberals, who seem to have chosen to move on. Let the Repub's wallow in their misery. That seems to be all that they have left.

If I believed for a minute that they were gone for good, maybe it would be a little bit of a bummer. Things just weren't going their way on here. That doesn't sit well with a group who wants control. They whine about the number and quality of posts from Fred and Darth. I guess it never occurred to them to just not bother reading them. It's a neat little trick I use on a daily basis here, many times on their posts. I even got "chastized" once or twice for deviating from what a certain blog thread was supposed to be about. I obviously never received the rule book for blogging that they wrote.

Or, could it possibly be that they realize they only enjoyed blogging when they could bitch about every single thing the sitting president does?? Lord knows they sure were having trouble finding fault with their precious Barry.

Anyway, I will jump out here and now and predict that they will be back. Meanwhile, anyone else need a crinoline for their kid? We can discuss that for a little while without learning what Main thinks about kiddie pageants....

Personally, those liberals that I associate with are admitting to me that they are coming to realize that we are moving too far left too fast and they now have grave concerns about Obama.

I imagine it is becoming increasingly more difficult to defend some of the moves that the Teleprompter in Chief has made.

It seems the 'Change' that was hoped for is being replaced by a reality hangover because the Washington spending and corruption is rolling along as usual. Government is experiencing EXPLOSIVE new growth and it is being financed on the backs of our children.

Besides, if I were liberal, unless I was a Socialist, I wouldn't be blogging and defending him either. I would start questioning where is taking this country.

But then again, maybe they are gone because the daily KOS site has been down so they don't know what to think or say. Eye-wink

Of course it is easy to ignore a volume of blogs and engage in ones that are intellectually stimulating to you. I know that I have had several blogs with no comments-so I assume no interest. I will miss yours, Sniffles, and Diva's rants. But you have certainly contributed to the shrill and bitter discourse on this website. I would miss JeffC for his global and international intelligence. Bonkers, You seem to think that the North Koreans are been fenced off in accordance with our wishes. That is not accurate if you look at our relations with the rest of the world. The North Koreans have effectively frozen the world out of their lives. The DPRK is the most bizarre land that I have ever laid eyes upon and trod four very quick steps actually in. The DMZ is four kilometers wide. On the South Korean side, the DMZ starts with the South Barrier Fence--it spans the entire DMZ and is heavily fortified with Guard towers every couple of hundred feet. In the American sector (at the time) we had two guard posts-Collier and Ouellette. Ouellette was 15 meters from the MDL-Military Demarcation Line. That line is marked by signs in decently close proximity to each other--you could see numerous signs at one time. The other side of those signs was actually North Korea. The North Korean side of the DMZ had another 2 km's and then their own version of a barrier fence. Panmunjon was on the MDL.

The North Korean would blare loudspeakers every night. Every night there was a fire fight along the DMZ in the ROK sectors. Once a month or so they would send groups of soldiers into the South Korean side of the DMZ. These were called "spot souths" In our sector, it could have been a bit of a turkey shoot as we had excellent tow nightsights that could spot people from km's away. These “spot souths” normally got away because our rules of engagement required wheeled vehicles to get close to them (basically alerting them) and they would scoot to the other side of the MDL. Not always though. They would occasionally get shot up in ambushes. One time, the DPRK lost three soldiers within the ROK side of the DMZ. The bodies were transported next to the building in Panmunjon. The DPRK soldiers did not acknowledge their fallen comrades and let them lay in the sun for a couple of days. That is not the normal action of almost any country’s army in the world. That makes them a bit different, eh? They also released a Bengal tiger in the DMZ in 1990, knowing that a tiger of that variety was not indigenous to that area and would not survive the winter. In short, the DPRK seeks this isolation. No other country in the world behaves this way. They allow their populace to undergo famine before getting help from other countries. I have never seen a people so little value their own as I saw while I was in Korea looking across the MDL into North Korea every day. They have been given opening to back out of their corner. They like their corner and do not really care to leave it or value their people to leave it.

And the Korean war is not officially over to the Koreans. It is still a cease fire.

JeffC's picture
Submitted by JeffC on Mon, 06/15/2009 - 12:38am.

The DPRK is the most bizarre country on the planet. For a different perspective consider this, Kim knows that we could wipe him off the face of the Earth and he won't go so far as to start a war. Their external politics revolves around three objectives: extorting money from the West, provoking South Korea so that relations don't thaw enough to lessen their isolation and dancing on the edge of what is tolerable to the Chinese. The recent provocations affect all three but I think it's an internal political ploy aimed at shoring up Kim's standing with the military to gain their support for his choice of successor. They believe that they gain enormous prestige by being a nuclear power. The military will never accept his two oldest sons so it's a maneuver to gain support for Kim Jung Un. If external politics were paramount, he wouldn't be provoking the Chinese and he would be negotiating with the US in hopes of another financial bonanza. He's not doing that. Ergo, it's an internal ploy.

Can't agree on North Korea's army being wiped off the earth!

They number about a million and are trained and equipped.

We didn't handle a handful of terrorists in Iraq!

Are you suggesting that we drop the "bomb" every mile or two?

Finish the negotiations, I say.

The Wedge's picture
Submitted by The Wedge on Mon, 06/15/2009 - 7:17am.

The DPRK does have a million under arms, but they do not have the ability to force project outside of a conventional attack across the DMZ. I had (and still have) faith in the 550,000 man ROK army and their series of penninsula wide defenses. In the 45 miles from the DMZ to Seoul, I counted 3 large antitank walls with drop blocks and charges prepositioned to drop them to seal off the road. I saw every major building and residential buidlings with firing ports designed in them. Thorw in that the DPRK has to get across the Imjin-Gan river within the first 8 miles and it is not an easy route to attack. Although the DPRK would certainly make a mess in their attack and millions would die, I do not see them defeating the ROK. They do not have more than 2-1 superiority and do not have the ability to project the bulk of its forces behind the defensive belts of the ROK

Submitted by Bonkers on Mon, 06/15/2009 - 7:59am.

I suppose you don't remember the hordes of Chinese, blowing their bugles while attacking? I do.

We would have to be in it in a minute. ROK reminds me of Iraqi soldiers. Or Italians.

I have heard of these fortifications before (the French had one) and they can be avoided.

You are correct about the millions of dead!

The Wedge's picture
Submitted by The Wedge on Mon, 06/15/2009 - 8:14am.

The maginot was a defensive line with both of its flanks in the air. It could be bypassed as it was by going through Belgium, or theoretically through the Swiss frontier. Both flanks of the ROK defenses is the sea/ocean. The DPRK does not have the force projection necessary to do an inchon-style attack behind the lines. And when the hordes of chinese came across the Han, they came across at a multiple of 10 to 1. The DPRK would be on their own hook in a DPRK attack on the south. The Chinese value their trade and how things are going too much. I am surprised that the Chinese have let this go this far. They have the weight inside of the DPRK to clean house. The status quo obviously works for the Chinese. I do not think that a conventional attack offered by the DPRK could take Seoul, much less the entire penninsula.
I have worked with the ROK in the modern era. I think they stack up well against their DPRK counterparts.

And the 2nd ID has a DIP (die-in place) mission there in a conventional war. They are a good division but are essentially a trip wire to draw us into a larger engagement. The DPRK's artillery can hit the 2ID even now behind the DMZ
