Obama's agenda is responsible for a sliver of the deficits.

Sea of Red Ink: How It Spread From a Puddle

My own optimism for the future is based on the fact that Barack Obama has the liberal's ability to change his mind when presented with new and current information, and the fact that the Republican party is still in the self-destruct mode. We shall see.

They will also refuse to check your link. So, a paragragh or two to emphasize

"The first category — the business cycle — accounts for 37 percent of the $2 trillion swing. It’s a reflection of the fact that both the 2001 recession and the current one reduced tax revenue, required more spending on safety-net programs and changed economists’ assumptions about how much in taxes the government would collect in future years.

About 33 percent of the swing stems from new legislation signed by Mr. Bush. That legislation, like his tax cuts and the Medicare prescription drug benefit, not only continue to cost the government but have also increased interest payments on the national debt.

Mr. Obama’s main contribution to the deficit is his extension of several Bush policies, like the Iraq war and tax cuts for households making less than $250,000. Such policies — together with the Wall Street bailout, which was signed by Mr. Bush and supported by Mr. Obama — account for 20 percent of the swing."

It's amazing how much information you can find if you take an honest look at our situation.

I, for one, hope we SUCCEED

Where were you guys in fighting the Medicare expansion. Conservatives were NOT wrapping their arms around this wasteful government expansion.

And in regards to the tax cuts... Yeah.. let's hike 'em some more and watch Microsoft and ton of other businesses flee from Obama's anti-business and anti-success proposals. I can assure you there are a whole lot of businesses preparing to add more dependents on the gumament roles if we are made any more a target than we already are.

I too hope we SUCCEED as a country. But out spending and out growing Bush's foolishness is only making matters worse. My god let's have some intellectual honesty with all this. Yes the Republican's provided VERY poor leadership as they continued the wasteful and government growth policies that the Dems have always trended toward. And now that you guys have eliminated ALL the power and influence of the GOP then why are you guys accelerating the same foolish policies and waste that got us to where we are now? Defending Obama and the Dems just to ridicule and blame the Repubs is indefensible. Come on guys.... you are smart men. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? This new leadership is continuing and hastening the demise of our powerful economic machine. Hack... it's going to catch up to your high paying job too in the near future. Stop defending Obama and that bunch. We've got some devastating policies being enacted that are going to be punitive to the lifestyle standards that we enjoyed over the last 50 years. And our children are going to bare the brunt of it.

My main point to start was that Obama's agenda is not the culprit in these humongous deficit numbers, but he must correct the mistakes of the past or it will be. This new leadership is not making any breakneck corrections because while everyone agrees that the government spends too much, the human default is that the cuts need to come out of someone else's account, thank you very much. An encouraging sign was the unanimous vote to eliminate waste in defense spending. We as a country can pull out of this mess, and that will happen much quicker if we pull together and not apart, and I don't mean politically, I mean by thinking of the whole being more than the sum of its parts.

Really believe that growing government, raising taxes on productivity, creating more entitlement programs, controlling businesses over moderating them, and heaping massive cap and trade mandates that are going to increase the cost of our energy by 20% or more is going to correct this situation? We've pissed massive amounts of wealth away on failed businesses and individual that REFUSE to be productive to the point that it is now dragging the rest of us down. Wake the freak up dude and realize that this 'god' you guys created is only worsening the situation and hastening our demise. Sheesh again....

Your hate for Repubs and Conservatives acts as blinders to what the current batch of goons is getting us into. But I suppose if just feels good to soak your feet in your 'Hope'.

I have only expressed an extreme dislike for the actions,, and their results, of the Republicans and Conservatives (with the exception of telling Fred Garvin that he was a jackass regarding his disrespect of Jimmy Carter). On the other hand, I have been called everything but a white man by your bunch, including you. I believe your own hate is impairing your vision.

It will only take one sentence to answer your ridiculous illogical statement about why Congress must now get us out of Bush's mistakes--it is the goofs are so bad in so many areas that gross remedies are now necessary!

I didn't hear much of the republican elite criticizing Bush during his eight years. They concentrated their criticism on the democrats!

Silly man... I never said Congress must get us out of Bush's mistakes. Congress couldn't get their selves out of a paper bag with the top open and the bottom ripped out. It's full of lawyers, crooks, Robert Horgans, Mitch Seabaughs, and Cynthia McKinneys.

it is the goofs are so bad in so many areas that gross remedies are now necessary!

I won't disagree with that statement. It's just that our "goofs" will not be cured by creating even bigger "goofs". I just can't figure out why this administration would compound the intentional goofs made by Bush and his predecessors along with the congresses that enabled them.

I guess you hear what you WANT to hear. Many of us criticized Bush and his Westmoreland like hacks especially after Bush lost his marbles and in his second term when he decided to appease Democrats instead of making the hard decisions that would help avert the situation we are in now. Ummm... There is a reason the GOP has lost so much support dude... and it AIN'T because we joined the left. Eight years.... good grief when are you guys going to realize that many of the issues that are crippling us right now have roots that extend far beyond Bush's 8 years. Sheesh..

Welcome back Dollar. You were missed.

is totally irrelevant.. Just like the PORKULUS BILL Obama's excuse for signing it was ..Well "it was proposed by my Predecessor".. IT DID NOT MEAN HE COULD NOT VETO THE DANGED EARMARKS...
Yes Bush and the DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED CONGRESS left a 1.5 Trillion dollar deficit.. and Obama and the DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED CONGRESS AGAINalong with the REPUBLICANS is increasing it 4 fold or more according to the latest estimates.. We are looking at a 10-12 TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT by 2013..
Do you think by proposing the most massive spending and control budgit ever..and Congress adding to it for Bridges to nowhere does not adversely affect our future..?? REALLLLY

"Mr. Obama’s main contribution to the deficit is his extension of several Bush policies, like the Iraq war and tax cuts for households making less than $250,000"

Two things here I would like to point out... Again OBAMA does not have to "continue" anything.. he can at the stroke of a pen put a stop to it.. so if he is continuing Pres Bush policies.. then they must have been working or needed to begin with.. and lastly..I thought the Bush tax cuts where only for the RICH according to OBAMA if you make less the $250k you are not RICH.. soooooo.. apparently The Bush tax cuts benefitted the Middle Class and Poor as well... hmmmmm not what we have been hearing from you guys for what… YEARS..

I see your link and raise you

I find it interesting watching election results from Europe, specifically Germany, UK, France and Italy, that the wave of liberalism and spending has backfired in Europe, as the voters have decided to go conservative, or center-right. I wonder now if this is a sign of what Pres Obama will have to face in the midterm elections here in 2010. Will he have to adjust his free spending agenda in order to survive until 2012 if the Reps regain control? The Europeans certainly spoke loudly that they had enough of the free spending!
