Peachtree City Mayor, Harold Logsdon, has identified the Dragon Boat Races and International Festival as the “signature event” for celebrating Peachtree City’s historic 50 year anniversary. Mark your calendars for the 3rd annual Dragon Boat Races and International Festival, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Peachtree City, to be held at Drake Field on Lake Peachtree in Peachtree City, Saturday, September 26th from 9 AM to 4 PM.  Drake Field is off Willowbend Road, east of the library on Lake Peachtree in the heart of Peachtree City.  Dragon boat racing is one of the world’s fastest growing sports, according to, USA Dragon Boating, LLC.  Worldwide, over 50 million people will pick up a dragon boat paddle this year.   This sport combines tradition with modern day teamwork, enthusiasm and strategy, plus, anyone can do it.  Dragon Boat Racing is great exercise and just plain fun for family, friends and co-workers.  This event continues to grow in popularity, last year over 2800 spectators attended, watching 30 teams compete. This year, Rotary Club of Peachtree City event organizers expect to have over 40 teams competing in two divisions, the competitive division for experienced paddlers, and the novice division for beginners.   A "Team" consists of up to 22 people; 20 paddlers, one drummer and one person to steer.

The International Festival held in conjunction with the Dragon Boat Races is designed to raise awareness of cultural diversity and to increase interest in international commerce through the interactions between our community, businesses and the arts.  Food vendors in colorfully decorated tents will be offering delectable treats.  The flavor of wonderful food complimented by spotlights of entertainment will provide a day filled with something for the entire family!  What better way to spend an autumn Saturday than by enjoying super food and fun together.  Plan now for September 26th, and come on out to watch the races while enjoying great food and entertainment.   Or, begin organizing your own team now and go to the site below for all your Dragon Boat Team needs.  All proceeds from this event support a wide range of community service projects and programs that include: Alzheimer’s and Breast Cancer research projects, youth science and music programs, literacy programs, clean water projects, senior service programs, the Boy and Girl Scouts, and the local health care clinic to name a few.

Hey, Harold, last time I checked this is the signature event for THE ROTARY CLUB. It's a "signature event" for all the local eateries that set up their own displays and bring their own employees and food and marketing supplies. It's a "signature event" for all the individual groups of rowers, whether they are coworkers or friends or neighbors. What the ___ does the city have to do with ANY of this???? Quit insulting the history of Peachtree City by this parasitic-like gesture. Where is your recognition of The Rotary Club for starting and continuing this event?

We all know there is NO anniversary celebration this year because you and your worthless council buddies and sleezebag Bernie wasted any income this city had available to throw a true and respectable party.

How much did we taxpayers pay for the design by Thomas Burns for the logo? Logo for what? Who's going to use it? How much money did we taxpayers pay for posters, sunshades, lap blankets and t-shirts that will sit on some shelf in City Hall till next year?

I want to see you AND Bernie AND Boone AND Plunkett under a canopy at this event selling this waste of OUR money. Do NOT use city employees to set this up-do it yourselves. And, NO, you can NOT drive your little golf cart across the street at the end of the day to Y-Not and DRINK the proceeds away. You CAN make a public announcement on the stage on the loudspeaker telling everyone how much money you raised to actually pay US back for your wasteful spending.

How in Gods name did a Chinese boat race become the Signature Event for the 50th anniversary for a sleepy little Georgia town. Just how much sake did the good Mayor have before he came up with this one. I just can't believe that he wants to celebrate OUR 50th anniversary with a custom from a Communist country, our locale Veterans must be ready to chew nails over this. Has this man not got a single drop of AMERICAN blood in his veins. And everyone thought that Callula Hills would be the last knife that the Mayor stuck in our backs, but I guess not. November can't come quick enough, hell even the Managers and employee's at city hall can't wait for this one to leave. Way to go Mayor Mao Zedong!

Well, Planning Commission voted 3-2 on this. Goes to council now. Great stewartship of the master plan by the Planning Commission. They set up the pins for Harold and the other two to knock them down. Once Fayette County gets the lake filled up with the water use increase, they can hold the Dragon boat race there so Harold and his sponsors can wave at the little people from the veranda.
