And then there were two. A Peachtree City resident has announced he will seek election as the city’s mayor this November. Scott Rowland, an investment advisor who works for a firm in Atlanta, said in his announcement that he will “come to the job of mayor unencumbered and without ties to any special interest group.” Rowland was unavailable for comment, as he went out of town shortly after sending the news release to The Citizen early Monday evening. He will challenge announced candidate Don Haddix, a sitting City Council member. Current Mayor Harold Logsdon has decided to run for state insurance and fire safety commissioner instead of seeking re-election as mayor. “I will strive to always lead with the highest ethical and moral standards,” Rowland said. “If given the opportunity to serve, I will put what is best for the community of Peachtree City foremost in all my efforts as mayor.” As someone who has lived in Peachtree City his entire life, Rowland wrote that he appreciates what makes the city special. Rowland said he thinks the mayor should “lead, show initiative, set specific goals, build teams, listen and be thoughtful and creative.” “Other facets of leadership are to influence people and organizations and to recognize and reward members of the community for their achievements and contributions,” Rowland wrote. Rowland, whose age is unavailable, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and cites it as evidence “that I am willing to work hard to achieve a goal.” A graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor of science in business administration, Rowland is a member of the Peachtree City Rotary Club, the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals of Fayette County. login to post comments |
