All the years of hard work will pay off Friday night as 1,908 students from Fayette County’s five public high schools will participate in graduation ceremonies at their respective schools. All ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m., the first time that’s happened since the county had only one high school in the early 1980s.

Fayette County High School will have 343 graduates at the ceremony at Tiger Stadium. The stadium will open at 5:30 p.m. If prevented by inclement weather, the graduation will be held Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at the stadium.

College scholarship money awarded to the Fayette High class, excluding the Georgia HOPE scholarship, totaled $1,375,250.

McIntosh High School will have 366 students graduating, with 92 percent of students planning to enroll in post-secondary education. The ceremony will be held at the school’s stadium. The optional date and location for inclement weather will be May 30 at 10 a.m. at the stadium.

The McIntosh graduating class was awarded a total of $5,031,878 in scholarship money, excluding HOPE.

Sandy Creek High School will graduate 331 seniors, with 92 percent planning to attend post-secondary studies. Graduation ceremonies will be held at The Battlefield stadium. The rain date will be the following day at the stadium at 9 a.m.

Seniors at Sandy Creek were awarded a total of $3.8 million in college scholarship funds, excluding HOPE.

Starr’s Mill High School will have 447 students graduating Friday night in ceremonies at Panther Stadium. The school plans to have the ceremonies if the rain is light. Otherwise, the optional date for inclement weather will be at the stadium or in the gym Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Graduates will be issued three rain tickets if the event is held in the gym.

Whitewater High School will have 421 graduates at the school’s stadium for the Friday ceremony, of which 74 percent are planning to enroll in post-secondary education. The rain date for ceremonies will be May 30 at 10 a.m. at the stadium.

Whitewater’s seniors were awarded a total of $3,514,383 in scholarship money, excluding HOPE.

Seeing the 09'ers graduate brings back memories for me and when I graduated back in 08 (SCHS). I miss it, I really do despite what all happened. Graduating high school with a nice rank and all...that day will always be one of the best days of my life.
